I'm using clam AV. It's not that great, but my linux machines are using it as well. So, why not. I never had that error before. Have you tried to install the latest version? reinstalling might be an option.

clamav doesnt come with real time scanning. linux will not be affected because nobody seems to care creating viruses on linux.

better combine it with winpooch to overcome this and double the protection.

Nobody seems to care to create a virus for linux because most of the virus creators are linux users. tongue.gif. 2005 survey... Windows virus = 120,000 known variants, Linux Viruses = 40 variants.

Linux pawnes Windows. tongue.gif

Nope. I've tried running it on other user account but the problem still persists.

ah! winpooch! kool =) (i was trying to remember the name: see thread/poll on free av) tried it again just now and it "suspended" the PC for quite a while...had to endtask...now i remember why i forgot all about it...all them "hooks" winpooch uses!

the daemonized clamav, clamd can be use scanning mail on a mailserver. and, well, linux not as soft a target as winDoze...

TS, i've been using clamav for years and 0.9 now - never saw such an error message. i wonder if it is related to xp's security access?

afaik, the sig dbs is located in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\.clamwin\db\" folder.

the preferences are kept here C:\Documents and Settings\<user name> \Application Data\.clamwin\ClamWin.conf file

afaik clamav and works based on it are free (opensource, GPL) or "donation-ware". not aware of any commercial av based on clamav. if it uses the same lib/engine then no diff? haven't use clamav portable. i think the mechanisms (scanning/update sigs) would be the same.

ClamAV is an OSS Project. No money needed unless you are donating. If there is anyone, anything that ask you to donate(ClamAV), REPORT. It is fake. Cheers!

Here's your solution:

ClamWin FAQ

Just download those 2 files and copy&paste it to appropriate folder.

edit: yeah, i'm using the portable version, too thumbup.gif
