Hi, I'm currently a Bachelor of Finance and Investment student year 1.
I have taken the CFP Module 1 last year and pass it.
I'm thinking whether I should take Module 2 or not.
I did some reading on the Internet and found out it is actually a quite common professional certification where many people got it.
Initially I was very determined to take Module 2, but all of my friends that pass don't want to continue anymore. They hearsay people take CFP to sell insurance.
My question is, what are the specific area CFP will help me in my future career, let say I'll be a financial advisor or in other finance related field.

My plan is by the time I graduate, I will have an professional certification which most of the undergraduate don't have. Then I'll enroll in CFA, which I know it in very different level compared to CFP.
Thanks.

It is a license to basically sell different different finance product. Instead of introducing youself as insurance agent where many people wil avoid, you can rebrand yourself as finance planner and include insurance as one of the finance planning and meanwhile sell that insurance to them.

Would it be better if I invest the money into CFA level 1 instead of continuing CFP? Thanks for the reply

To be honest I am not a finance line person. But I believe any logical minded person will tell you that being CFA qualified person will have tonnes more opportunities compare to CFP qualified. You can work for big institutions at a very high position with CFA and you can do none of those with only CFP. There was once anyone from Form 5 can take CFP. It was only a few years ago they change the qualification requirement to a graduate.

So in other words, if you can afford, do CFA and forget about CFP. Good thing about CFP is that you can sell product, be a bank product salesman and insurance sales person. I did CFP for self learning only and I am just like you who ahd only passed the first paper. Take note however that CFA cost alot more and will be alot more difficult but being a finance student you can definitely cope with it.

Thank you so much for your view. My friends also told me the same. I'll stop CFP then.

Do read this article about CFA Vs CFP, it tells you what is right for you:

http://www.wallstreetmojo.com/cfa-vs-cfp/

Or compare CFA with FRM - Financial Risk Manager http://www.wallstreetmojo.com/cfa-vs-frm/

It boils down to your career goal. CFP is for the financial advisor/financial planner

How is your CFA and FRM progress?
Did you study yourself or you go for places that provide CFA course?
My friend went for Noesis Exed and sat for the level 1 last Dec. He said Noesis is a good CFA course provider.
So, I am thinking which choice should I pick.
FYI, my result is not too bad, barely get first class degree.

I am now in internship and last semester of degree.
I have decided to take CFA and hope to sit for December exam.
