I have been planning my strategies for the near future. Doing some paper trading.. testing..

Generally, I am avoiding beaten down stocks. Doesn't make much sense searching for value in big dark holes... tongue.gif

Ok avoid beaten down stocks..

Wrong strategy..

How about stocks that has corrected but it is still in long term uptrend and stocks that has found its bottom and turning up? In both cases the stock must still be good fundamentally and cheap in valuation..

PASS OR FAIL??

Look the strategy has got to fit you. You attack the market with your best game plan, one that's best suited as per your ability.

You cannot just follow others.

Let's look at your strategy. You got to ask what could go wrong and why this strategy will bring you the moolah.

Without a stock name is hard to discuss more as in most cases each stock is different.

Question on intra day short selling.....

As we all know as of April 2018, we trader can short sell on a selected counter on an intra day basis..... but i got a question....

Say in the morning 10am i short sell on a counter ABC ..... i sell first without owning any units......

Later in the afternoon, this counter ABC got suspended due to heavy short selling by bursa.....

How do i buy back at end of day to replace the unit which i have sold units in the morning??

What will happen to me as a short selling trader if the above scenario happens.....

This is so as i seen many counter got suspended due to heavy short selling basis ..... our KLSE is only intra day basis....but half way aready got suspended....

We how?

Anyone can answer to the above??? and what other option do i have??

Thank you in advance

You need to ask your remisser bro.

These are the rules of the game. You need to know it inside out before you engage...

Fail, if used without thinking.
The recession has NOT started yet. Many of Malaysian stocks are currently trading far below their historic lows (2009 recession).

I have strong feeling that the bottom we see are false bottoms.

As for when you are making your strategy, you need an out.
ie if my guess is wrong, how do I get out. At the moment I think only RHB has "stop loss order" to automatically eject you from a position.

I for one, could never get any satisfaction searching and playing bottoms. Never ever good at it.

it's simple...
you don't need to know all sort of trading to make money...
you don't need to be a day trader if you cannot be one...
it's not a crime... tongue.gif

a trader do not have to trade all the time...
when there is no trade, do not feel obligated to make one...

Up 22 atm... tongue.gif

Hmm... at 2.97..it still trades at pe of 36+..
Plus most recent quarter earning, profits slump 28.8%..
If that was a one off slump..then.. perhaps..
But if it is not a one off then... the downside risk potential is massive...

Review work..

Yinson..

The stock is still hanging on..

user posted image

The TTM eps is about 21+ which means at current price of 4.17, its trading on an earnings multiples of 18+.

Not extremely excessive but here's where the trouble lies.
If one just looks at the trailing numbers without taking into consideration of the quarterly earnings trend, then once could be in for a nasty surprise if the poor earnings trend continue...

And Yinson current quarterly earnings trend is ugly.

user posted image

So the question is WHAT if Yinson quarterly earnings continues so lousy then how?
Won't the current price be then a bit excessive?

Is it worth taking the risk applying the bottom fishing strategy and making a bet on this stock, right now at these current prices?

*Surprising fact is that Yinson did not tank after the release of its poor earnings in December!*

BTW... here's something you can do...

Take a quick screen of the actives...
Look at its movers ... (ideally fairly new mover or its 'news' should not be more than 2 months (u want to avoid stale fish) )

for example, today, you might spot Tatt Giap
Active... nice momentum... in the green...
now if you do not want to chase Tatt Giap...
you might want to see if it can belong to a family...

for me, I might see the 'new shareholder' angle as perhaps a sector...
So I would view it as a not so good stock... (from a fundamental pov... not making money)...
but then the new shareholder could be a game changer....

so next...
find for any such angle in other stocks...
ie..perhaps a bad stock... which has had a RTO... giving the stock a new perspective...
check the balance sheets...
see how 'clean' the company could be after the RTO...
etc etc...

there's always 'ideas' in the market...
most important is could these idea be a fit for your style of game?

Hmm.... now this IS a big winner....

It underwent a rights issue and then it surged all the way up!

How reliable is 'good dividends' ?

Let's use Astro as an example.

As most would know, Astro did pay a generous set of regular dividends but could one consider this as a 'reliable' safety net' in our trading/investment?

Let's run a test on dividends since 2018. Yes, assuming 2018 was the start of the trade (big, silly assumption of course!).

Here's the chart of Astro.

user posted image

Not very good eh? Astro on 2nd Jan 2018, closed at 2.45. Those that held Astro since 2018 is left holding massive losses.

Now here's the dividend payout. Let's sibuk and see how much the dividends helped. (The bells on the chart indicates the dividend payouts)

user posted image

So total dividends received since Jan 2018, would be 11 sen.

Astro closed at 1.33 yesterday.

How?

Despite the generous dividend payout, one holding on to Astro is deep buried in losses.

Would this be yet another example on why dividends is not a 100% safe. You can collect all the goodie dividends but the slide in the share price would negate all the rewards and in Astro case, the losses is massive!!

Just sharing as usual.
Don't get me wrong, dividends are good but it must be backed by strong earnings. As you can see also in Astro's example, as earnings slump, Astro has reduced its dividends too.

I have been following company results and have shortlisted some companies that are doing quite well. But this is looking at the rearview mirror. I haven't got much time to look at the future prospects and I think it's really difficult to predict the future.

Anyway, these are the lists of companies that I think are fundamentally good and doing quite well recently. Price wise, it has has either not gone down too much or have been recovering from lows.

FPI
QES
PENTA
MUDA
VIS
DANCO
MBMR
BIMB
RCECAP
AEONCR
DUFU
BPPLAS

Any thoughts?
