ok so i went to guitar classes for almost 3 months and until now i still cant play one full song where as my friend whom have been going to classes (different teacher) can already play a few songs on her own.
im so frustrated and now she's trying to teach me.

is it really all about practising?
any really good practical guitar gurus who can give me classes?

Practice is THE most important thing.....
Even if your guitar teacher is Eddie Van Halen, or Jimmy Page, or Clapton or Zakk Wylde (you all just KNOW that was coming.....) but you yourself don't practice..... forgettaboutit.

Most of us here TRY to practice as much as we can..... just dedicate 1 hour a day and you'll see how much difference it will make.

Or just practice your chords when watching TV or stuff like that.... for most of us here, we'll run through scales while watching TV or something like that. That's the only way you'll get better.

There's no secret formula... just practice.

Anyway...it doesn't mean that you're insufficient of pratice....sometimes teaching method is another factor too...depends on how's the teacher taught you....try to have another month of lesson with diffrent tutor....maybe you'll get some better improvement...

no, as in proper practice makes perfect

someone may practice all the time, but if technique is wrong then it could all be useless.

my version would be: "practice makes better, only perfect practice makes perfect."

maybe your teacher is trying to put a strong foundation on fingering or scale rather than just let you play songs.... or she wants you to be more fammiliar with playing the guitar by looking at the notes....or maybe....she just doesnt bother how good you are as long as she gets her payment....

Anyway, ehem... do you really want to a guitar teacher to teach you songs? Or would you rather learn how to learn/play songs on your own?

Your teacher may be giving you the foundation that you need so that you can learn songs on your own, in which case, you may end up being better off than your friend who knows how to play a few songs.

When I took lessons a long long time ago, my teacher taught me a few songs and more importantly, how to execute the techniques necessary for those songs. I can still remember the techniques, but I can't remember the songs at all anymore.

But they were metallica songs... so the technique wasn't all that great compared to all the flashy hotshots nowadays (Laiho, Li, Limatainen, Loomis, cooLey etc)... I sure wished I listened to megadeth instead. At least then I would've learn hirajoshi and all that stuff...

Personally, i think it's better to learn good technique during classes.
As for songs, you can apply the techniques you learn during the classes and apply them as you learn the songs on your own.
If and when you get stuck, consult the teacher.

damn thieves.

anyway, he taught me the notes and how to read tabs.
but i think he thinks that im as good as he is.
not saying that he is a bad teacher.

i learnt acoustic guitar.
no i cant play any song at all.

IMHO you should discuss with your teacher regarding your problem. Giving feedbacks on what you are learning will assist your teacher in making a better assessment on your guitar playing and learning. He/she will would be able to adjust and tailor his/her lessons to give best result for you.
