Just to double confirm, can I use it in pure dac mode for my pc speaker S730?
*
Hi Andre

Yes. The DAC unit is designed to be used as a dual purpose unit. There is a line out mode.

Hi. Is there anywhere that I can demo UD125 before deciding?
*
hi paletteLIFE, unfortunately we do not have resellers or distributors at the moment, so a demo is not possible for now.

We do have some Malaysians with the international models, perhaps if you know some of them you could ask them for a demo.

Thanks.

Hi, just wondering how to use this with smart phone? Just connect through otg? Do we need external power source? And ak4490 is capable decode up to dsd but it is only 24bit96khz in ud125, what is the reason behind. Just several questions before making order, thanks.
*
Our spec guide requires that the Android OTG to minimally have at least 150mA current output.

The UD125 is designed to be extremely powerful, being able to cater to the most sensitive IEMs and very demanding big headphones. We would still suggest you use an external power source by using a splitter to get the maximum benefit from it.

The UD125 is designed around the UAC1.0 standard. If we were to go the DSD route, we would need the UAC2.0 chips which requires very cumbersome drivers. (Kinda defeats the purpose of the UD125)

The UAC2.0 chips will also come at a significantly higher cost. The Ak4490 while is DSD-able, is not budget friendly when designed with DSD in mind. We do believe that the PCM standard is still very robust and high quality, and that the UAC1.0 is more than sufficient for the UD125 class dac/amp.

I just want to enquire if UD125 Special Malaysia Edition has different specification than the previously launched UD125?
*
Hi Stephen!

It is exactly the same build, with some MOQ-required perks. (such as custom pouch colors and different case design)

EDIT: The difference is mainly aesthetic. This is part of our celebratory effort to return to our roots. (We started off selling at Lowyat Forums)

The international build will remain our staple.

Would like to ask regarding the filter, how is your personal experience on the filter?
Would you love to use them or remain as it is?

Thanks!

We personally prefer the default. keke. The beauty part of it is that you as a user can select whichever sounds best to your ears. biggrin.gif

My only concern of the UD125 is it is using Mini USB instead of the currently far more popular Micro USB or the more common printer USB cable, it is not a big deal but I believe it will be easier for user to find replacement cable than the Mini USB cable, it is not a big deal at all but I prefer the Micro USB cable. The volume controller (the toggle) is a little hard to adjust since it is not extrude enough to the outside and my finger is quite big in size, again, it is not a big deal especially when it sell so cheap.

u will fix that or not?
*
Hi salimbest83

The main reason we use the mini USB standard is primarily because considering the timeline this was designed, similarly classed DACs are still on the Mini USB. (and similarly priced action cameras are on it as well)

In our experience as well, the Mini USB is a little more durable than the Micro USB.

There will definitely be changes for the future UD130. We will be putting in more tests to gauge for the best possible USB options in the future.

Don't be worried about the Mini USB cable replacement. The usb cable that is bundled with the UD125 has been proven to be very robust and good. Replacements are plentiful from our side (and at a very cheap price).

As for the VC, the reason why it is mostly flushed with the panel is for durability concerns. It's primarily a trade of between ease of toggling durability.

Thanks for the feedback though. We will be taking all these into consideration for our future iterations.

We're sorry our products did not meet your satisfaction.

Perhaps you could elaborate on the user-friendly part?

there is only one button to control volume and change setting, have to visually check the colour of led light to know the setting change. the model is very light weight and it comes bare unit inside the pouch with no manual.

Thank you for your feedback.

The manual is not included because we firmly believe in going the green route.

The manual pdf can be found on our UD125 website:

Hi salimbest83

The UD125 is designed for this very purpose!

So the answer to it is yes.

Any info on the exclusive design pattern and what is the changes compare to the conventional version? Is it a complete new design on the shape of the casing or just alter some printing (and color) on the casing?
*
The casing used is the same. There will be a one-time-only design for this case. We will put out more information regarding this soon.

yep, unfortunately that's the downsides of doing bulks these days. We understand that most people would prefer to get ready stocks.

That's why we're pushing hard for a production run that'll include populated units for this bulk.

Certain MOQ related raw materials can be done at a later time.

Any chance I can bypass the amp and purely use the DAC only?
I've been using your previous UD100 and UD120 on my Klipsch speakers and since the speaker is already amped, I'm worried the double amping might be an issue.

What is the closing date for your bulk?

Looking forward to your advise and reply.
*
There's no "double amping" with the UD125.

The design is "quite clever" in the sense that we've managed to integrate both the buffering output stage with the "amplifier".

What we basically did was to use an extremely powerful amplifier to act both as the output Diff to SE Stage and the Amplifier itself. So there's no "double amping" in the traditional sense.

Just push volume button to the max and it'll bypass the internal attenuation and thus becomes a pure line out.

Would like to know the description of the different filters in a more layman term.
Is there any word suitable for different filters? Warm? Clear? Vocal?
For example,
None: Neutral
Red: ?
Blue: ?
Purple: ?

Appreciate that smile.gif

Sorry for the delayed response.

Let's see, as a disclaimer, our philosophy is that while objective measurements can be made in real life, the perception of quality is still very much dependent on the user's experience due to the fact that our ears and ear canals have very different texture and thus the brain perceives sound quite differently. Some filters may sound warm to you but it may in fact sound bright to another.

The AK4490 as we know it contains four different filters, two traditional filters and two modern filters. These filters act as a passband digital "filter" to only theoretically allow frequencies you use to be produced post conversion.

The more "aggressive" the filter, the less frequencies it allows to be produced. You don't want anything that you can't hear as they may be errors or noises. This is why a good digital filter is important for DACs.

However, life is also not that simple, aggressive filters create some other issues by itself, they would often generate new errors by themselves so a delicate balance is required.

These four filter settings are heavily based on the "aggressiveness" of the filters.

NONE - Delay Sharp (Modern)
RED - Short Slow (Modern)
BLUE - Slow (Traditional)
PURPLE - Sharp (Traditional)

In terms of aggressiveness (from most aggressive to most sluggish)

NONE > PURPLE > RED > BLUE

In other words, the more aggressive filters are better at making sure that only audio frequencies are being generated through out.

From a technical stand point, the "modern" filters are better for their intended purposes. Both modern filters theoretically have less errors comparing to their traditional counterparts.

It's really up to you to decide which one fit your particular system the best. For all its worth, we think they are all great and it's even better that you as a user get to decide which one's really for you.
