Not sure where to post this so figured this was the proper place to post it.

So just started working at SG a few weeks ago, and currently company is providing a work mobile with a plan (M1 with device), but only has 17GB(?) from what I can see in the M1 app, I can't access much unfortunately due to the M1 app requiring M1 ID to view any bills for the plans etc. And I use data for vids and stuff when I'm on the go so I've already used a good amount of the monthly quota quite fast.. whistling.gif

So I plan to purchase my own plan, what route is currently my best choice? (Lowest possible price with most amount of data, 4G/5G doesn't matter but if there's 5G support for the SIM I won't complain rclxms.gif )
Singtel Hi! Prepaid SIM and Port out after to other carrier such as Heya, GIGA, or Maxx etc? Or just go straight to the subsidiaries carrier?
As the main plan is M1, so I'd like to preferably have another carrier other than M1/M1 subsidiaries to just make sure the coverage is half decent when M1 doesn't work as well.

Also my WP card will be arriving in 2 days so that's probably what I'll be using to get a new plan, either that or I use my passport for now.

Would appreciate any advice from fellow sifus. rclxm9.gif

you can't get postpaid plan with passports If i'm not wrong

There's redone in sg, you can use the data in both msia and sg without switching simcard

Cheapest is $8, i use that one, office and home got wifi and i don't watch videos in public, why is 17gb insufficient?
*
I don't mind prepaid/postpaid, the company phone that's provided to me is postpaid that is just under company's name and everything. But as I said the quota limit is 17GB and that's not enough for me.

I'll check redONE out then thanks! Tho looking at the plans it might not be sufficient hmm.gif

Why? I'm not a 9-5 office worker, 10-10 retail worker nor restaurant worker. I commute around Singapore a lot, and with commute come vids, I also commute back and forward between JB/SG so lots of data usage whistling.gif

Currently Simba offer the best deal, with some free roaming data as well. But it rent M1 network. The other you can consider would be giga or GOMO.
*
Okay I'll look out for that, also I've noticed from some providers that they require POBA (Proof of Billing Address), what documents should I provide if I do not live in Singapore for that?

And I've just collected a free Starhub prepaid SIM today with the leaflet that came with my DBS Debit card, tho I might switch it out to another carrier cause the prepaid data prices looks kinda pricey, and the internet connection I've noticed from the short while I'm using it is very intermittent even when it has full signal reception. shakehead.gif Do SG carriers support port out from prepaid number plans? If it's worth I might just port out rather than getting a new number hmm.gif

majority of telcos doesn’t port prepaid numbers. better get a postpaid asap to avoid the hassle of updating all your contacts later.  check out this one from Zero1, using Singtel infrastructure.

they have few other attractive plans as well

Got it I’ll keep that carrier in mind, if I were to apply for a postpaid I assume I have to do it with my work permit and pay a deposit or sorts?

If that’s the case I might just stick with prepaid as updating contacts or not really isn’t important for me since I do most of my communication through social platforms lol, and my most important contacts is still in my Malaysia Digi SIM

actually still can la. I started with Prepaid number bought with Passport at Changi Airport when I first touch down. Till today still using same number after so many years. Singtel prepaid port to singtel sim only then after that port here port there. If you like the number is worth doing. My number got 4 sixes X6X6X6X6 kept until now hahahaha

Oh wow thats a good one, my Starhub is very generic and has a 4 in it, so maybe not gonna bother keeping it, if the connection was nice then maybe but holy hell it was hard using it on public transport mega_shok.gif

For me it's like Singtel > M1 > Starhub but a lot of people rank Starhub better than M1

I was a long time M1 user then switch to Giga cannot take it then switch to MyRepublic using M1 network.

But before I port out from MyRepublic, there was a significant drop in service quality on MyRepublic with M1 4G I guess that was when MyRepublic decided to partner with Starhub for their 5G offering. Now stick with Vivifi on Singtel first after that only see how haha

Ooh understood, guess I gotta try for myself to know I guess but I'm sure it's all gonna be better than Malaysia's shitty mobile internet ranting.gif

Hi all, I’ve just gotten my first paycheck, but I got some questions. So currently I have a DBS/POSB Payroll Account, and there’s DBS Remit to send money back to Malaysia. It advertises 0% fees, how true is that statement? If compared to wise how’s the fees/charges? Should I be transferring my money from DBS to Wise and then transfer through Wise for the best exchange rate/fees etc? Would appreciate any advice tongue.gif

Best is CIMB SG to CIMB Malaysia account direct what you see is what you get no extra charge but provided you need both. This rate usually highest also.

Used to use DBS few years ago starting the rate not bad, zero fees but last time must transfer during working hour otherwise the rate will jump. After that I move to Wise I think I sent only one time then never use already. Then change to eRemit (formerly M1Remit) till now for almost 3-4 years already.

For DBS and Wise I have no idea how good is their service and conversion rate now but if not wrong eRemit beats both of them on the rate la. You can check and compare. CIMB usually beats all of them but I don't want to maintain 2 additional bank accounts hence never open it just to transfer money.

If you want to try eRemit let me know haha

Interesting interesting, for like intercountry available banks at least, I can apply for Maybank since my main bank in Malaysia is Maybank, but idk if it'll be just worth it more to use Wise as my main, also after checking eRemit, the conversion rate do seem a little bit higher on Wise, 0.22983 on Wise and 0.2967 on eRemit, so I will probably just be using PayLah to top up to my Wise and withdrawing it from that, for savings its probably gonna be Maybank SG.. Thanks for the offer tho! notworthy.gif

Haha not sure never check wise for quite long already. Use whichever you like haha

Maybank savings got any advantage?

For myself I have OCBC as my main savings then POSB for day to day use. Salary goes into OCBC to get bonus interest transfer out balance to POSB with ATM just downstairs like 30m away from the elevator from my block.
*
From what I can see with Maybank's (SG) website I don't think so.. but there is a 3% P.A., if that's what you're referring to as interest. Tho if OCBC's rate is high then I might consider switching over. hmm.gif

Just checked 3% need to fulfill a lot of criteria. Base interest still 0.25%.

https://www.maybank2u.com.sg/en/personal/sa...-programme.page

I have been using OCBC360 for many years. Still finding it the easiest for bonus interest. But if you're looking for the highest base interest I think CIMB better with 1.5-3.5% just keeping money there without fulfilling any criteria. You can look around and decide on.
*
Alright appreciate the help! Maybe I can ask my cousin's dad to help with OCBC if I decided to go that route since he works in OCBC hmm.gif

I transfer from DBS to Maybank monthly. Rates is not great, but not too bad either. Yup, zero fee if you transfer a minimum of S500 per transaction.

The savings via Wise is too small for me to be bothered with. But Wise is fast - really fast.

Thanks for replying! Interesting, Wise is faster than DBS’s advertised same day transfer? As currently I’m just transferring from DBS with PayLah! Or PayNow to my Wise and usually it arrives within a minute and not immediate. Interesting to hear that Wise’s speed is faster than DBS… how long does it take for your DBS to transfer over to MBB? For wise for me, it’s usually within minutes, and from Wise to MBB, it’s also within a few minutes after of transferring
