Hi there. I registered my unborn baby with myfirst school as well. My baby is due in October 2017 too. There's a government website that you need to register with, not with my first school. Once you register your interest, the CCC will give you a call to confirm.

Btw, infant care cost 2k/month for foreigners and 1.6k/month for PR holder. Baby sitter cost around $800-900 and it's 1-1 service.
Good luck.

so when you guys first arrive in Singapore, you just exchange the money in Malaysia and bring a huge amount of cash to survive the first month ?

I can't open a SG bank account yet...
*
You need to open a bank account with the offer letter you get from your company.
Can be done within the first week.
You need to count your money la. Ie- 1 month for food, PUB, rent + deposit...

Hello! Just started working in SG this week, starting to get to know this place better.

OCBC just informed that if I want to open a bank account it'll take one week. Is this considered normal time? I'm open to suggestion about opening a bank account.

Still looking for a place to stay  biggrin.gif . I'm working around Tanjong Pagar area.
*
1 week is long, 1 day enough la.
Need your working offer letter and some formal document (tenant agreement, phone bill) to show your residential address and they can settle the bank account for you in 1 day.

Ya, saw this at another forum. Can just declare thru online  rclxms.gif
Yes i work more than 2 years in SG, and this is my first attempt for the PR application.

I got a friend (Chinese Malaysian, Degree holder, exec) who work just 6 months in SG, and he success to get his PR nevertheless.
However, my colleague (Filipino, Master Degree holder, manager) who work more than 8 years in SG, fail to get PR, more than 5 attempts.

So.. it is a myth that how ICA select the rightful candidates..

Got unwritten requirement one.

just convert your malaysia license to sg license. cost around 100 plus only. just paper exam

QUOTE(tailtwist @ Sep 18 2017, 04:39 PM)
buy a car in malaysia or singapore?

You can easily convert to SG driving license with your MY driving license, just sit through the Basic Theory Test(BTT) computer based and pass, then pay a small fee to convert. But you will need a Competent Driving License(CDL) extract letter from JPJ Malaysia.

You cant drive a malaysia registered vehicle in SG if you're a resident here(EP/S-Pass/having a local SG residential address)

Refer below
LTA

WEST MALAYSIAN REGISTERED VEHICLES, CARS & MOTORCYCLES
WHO IS ALLOWED TO USE AND KEEP A FOREIGN-REGISTERED VEHICLE?
You are not allowed to use or keep any foreign-registered vehicles in Singapore if you are a:

Singapore Citizen
Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)
Resident of Singapore
Long Term Visit Pass Holder or Dependant Pass Holder
Work Pass Holder who is also a resident of Singapore
Student Pass Holder
Training Employment Pass or Work Holiday Pass

However, any person who holds a Work Pass issued by Ministry of Manpower, who is also not a resident of Singapore, may drive a foreign-registered vehicle in Singapore only if ALL these conditions are met:

He is the registered owner of the vehicle.
He resides outside Singapore.
He has a valid insurance certificate and road tax to use the vehicle on Singapore roads.
The vehicle is kept or used outside Singapore for a total period of 6 hours or more every day.
The vehicle has an Autopass Card to validate its entry/ exit at Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints and to pay for VEP/ toll charges.
*
I see. I was under impression since malaysia license is accepted worldwide i didn't need to convert

it all depends...if you're visiting/tourist...you are allowed to drive into SG with your MY car & MY license....but for other purposes...you have to understand carefully...

Currently staying in JB but planning to move over to SG to save commute time.

Hows the btt, is the questions same as those on sgdriving.net?
Has anyone used online resources?

I checked and need to go to woodlands driving centre to register and take the btt test, then apply for conversion.

Possible not to do tax clearance when leaving Malaysia to Singapore?
Then my idea is submit zero income every year in Malaysia. Anything that i need to concern if i do this?
*
Quit your job at the end of tax year then just submit the tax for the current year.
Then fill up form to state you're leaving Malaysia.
They will just audit your past years taxation and call/email you.

My first week in Sg. Just signed a contract to rent a whole unit. Now I need to apply broadband n i Check with few telco starhub , Singtel and my republic contract is 2 years. Is there any broadband package with 1 ur contract ? Any recommendations ?
*
Wait first.
Get a mobile line then decide.

If you get singtel postpaid line, there is option to upgrade with the unlimited data plan (infinite data x) for 39.90.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-s...e/add-ons/datax

If your company has company plans.
Apply for company line.

Yeah company also has some starhub plans.. but just signed TA for the house.. so need to get it finalized then apply for all this wif home address

why wait r?
Does it mean u get unlimited data plan so u can use it at home? but that way phone have to be on personal hotspot all the time n always home for everyone else to use.
*
The unlimited plan can be used anywhere with your phone data.

I assumed you were on your own.if with friends can get fiber for 49.90 per month.
I use starhub fibre, there was a promo for first 6 months free and i grabbed it.
IMO 200 mbps would have been sufficient.

Wait because if your company has phone package line. You can apply for it and get staff rates.
Anyone under ncs or singtel companies can get singtel postpaid with 40% discount iinm. Fibre also got discount.

I got a plan with phone and then had a bit of issue converting my line to the staff rate.

If you're only spending less than 1k a month maybe Citi is better. Or anything else with no points expiry

Even if you earn 4x miles on UOB, at 1k spent that's only 4k miles per month. After 2 years that's only 96k miles and they'll start to expire already.

I think the rest of the better miles cards have a high income requirement and also high annual fee, so I didn't bother looking at them much
*
Crap. I feel bad for staying loyal to uob now.

my fellow Malaysian working in SG ... need some view or opinion .. hope is not too P&C to share

since early this year I start looking for an opportunity outside from Malaysia(SG/middle east/etc)... start do my search and homework about it

since that most of the calls coming from SG and most of it from IT consultant agency ... did try 3x for F2F interview

I would like to know average expected salary for expat in SG? since they keep saying I cant refer to those website such as jobstreet or kelly service or glass door or others survey

Software Development (JAVA backend)
Diploma
7years experience

with above info, is it to much asking for SGD 5K?? i based on google search and friends working there they said 5k should be ok ... 1 friend working as Oracle Siebel consultant getting 5.2k for 4years+ experience, another one friend in another industry not IT related.

but they only willing to offer me SGD4k but i going to reject but still not reply them because first they said 4.8k before going F2F interview... another one 4.5K but no luck after F2F.
most reason is that was only budget for that position, considering my first time in SG, there is new law or salary draw by SG govt last year, and etc

here Im getting around RM 7.5k+- by end year will getting 2 months target bonus(need to get rating 3 during appraisal that consider normal rating)

SGD4k living in SG + married with 1 baby .. is it ok?  hmm.gif
ok yes i know SGD4k convert to MYR im getting more compared with current pay but is not that low? i dont want to get underpay and got cheated

here in Malaysia my colleagues from India or Philippines also getting RM4k+ for just 3 years experience some getting 6k for 5 years+ experience ... no much different with local malaysian .... we are too kind with expat?  shakehead.gif
*
If you are in sg and not a pr dont expect the sg salary.
Whatever is in the salary guides you can expect 3/4 of it.

4k is not a lot.
5k you can get by.
Also baby care is very expensive for foreignors here.
A simple visit to peadetrician if your baby has fever can set u back 300++sgd
