good move. if u decide to be here, please just convert.
infant care costing me 2k sgd.
immunisation and doctor checkup recently sgd200
giving birth costs abt 8k sgd (thankfully simple, otherwise emergency c section another 4k).

if u singaporean, at least after subsidy only 1.3k.
singaporean baby can go polyclinic i think alnost free for immunisation.

getting a confinement lady from jb recently cost me abt sgd3.5k (theres a 200 bucks levy, application fee for her nanny permit, and sum rule abt angpaos etc)

singapore is safe for u physically, but i hope u make alot of money so that u can withstand the very real financial pressures.

my friend recently, after working 5 years here as a professional (earning abt 8k pm now) finally got the downpayment to buy a 700k condo. (400+ sq ft). if married and both PR or citizen can buy hdb can easily save a big chunk of that.
*
i can forsee in the future malaysia will be exporting maids..just like vietnam/indon....unless the gov/political landscape changes......as a Chinese/Indian/Mix or etc etc...considered "2nd class citizen" in Malaysia....you know what I mean..I don't really wanna go into details.

It's an obvious brain drain...and now with cut of education sponsorship...

You can only open a bank acc with valid work pass. For bank, i suggest POSB/DBS as they have ATM almost everywhere in sg. Maybank or CIMB is not a good idea as ATM is hard to find in SG.. you cant withdraw money from another bank atm unlike malaysia.
if you are holding EP there is no deposit for you but however, 2$ will be deducted if you don't have more than 1k in the bank every end of the month
welcome to SG!
*
My spouse back then was able to open up a POSB savings account using her MY blue NRIC...the bank didn't accept the in-principle approval letter provided by MOM
(with the FIN number stated on the letter).

Hello! Just started working in SG this week, starting to get to know this place better.

OCBC just informed that if I want to open a bank account it'll take one week. Is this considered normal time? I'm open to suggestion about opening a bank account.

Still looking for a place to stay  biggrin.gif . I'm working around Tanjong Pagar area.
*
have you tried with DBS/POSB/UOB?
Tanjong Pagar aka CBD.......if you can find a room to rent with direct buses would be better......redhill/tiong bahru/kallang/bugis

any recommendations on how to go back during CNY ?

round trips for flights are RM2k + , crazy expensive!
*
which part of Malaysia? Sabah/Sarawak? Peninsular?
If Peninsular u can still try hitting the roads(bus/train)
If Sabah/Sarawak u dont really have a choice do you?

FYI...alot of them will try to buy/book flight tickets 1 year in advance...eg...after 2018 CNY...they will try to secure for 2019 CNY

I don't really understand the 10-vep free weekdays. When I registered my car to Singapore, I got 10 free days right. But is it 10 consecutive days only, meaning if I go to Singapore for a day then the other free 9 days keep going?
Or if I go there for a day, then I still got 9 weekdays free whenever I want to use it throughout the year.

Actually we decided to go back to Malaysia soon because we prefer life there for the kids. Not so much stress. As long as they don't become useless 3rd gen and throw all the money away will be sufficient to excel already.

well...if you and your spouse can look past the current political government and its policies(education/opportunity/equality)....then by all means moving back to Malaysia make sense....

no wonder everything is more costly for you..cause cannot get local rates for your baby(education/healthcare/daycare etc etc). Then again you both can still afford them easily. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Guys. Can i know if Malaysian driving license is good enough to drive car in singapore.

Or do i need to get a Singapore driving license?

The intention is to buy a car and use it here.
*
buy a car in malaysia or singapore?

You can easily convert to SG driving license with your MY driving license, just sit through the Basic Theory Test(BTT) computer based and pass, then pay a small fee to convert. But you will need a Competent Driving License(CDL) extract letter from JPJ Malaysia.

You cant drive a malaysia registered vehicle in SG if you're a resident here(EP/S-Pass/having a local SG residential address)

Refer below
LTA

WEST MALAYSIAN REGISTERED VEHICLES, CARS & MOTORCYCLES
WHO IS ALLOWED TO USE AND KEEP A FOREIGN-REGISTERED VEHICLE?
You are not allowed to use or keep any foreign-registered vehicles in Singapore if you are a:

Singapore Citizen
Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)
Resident of Singapore
Long Term Visit Pass Holder or Dependant Pass Holder
Work Pass Holder who is also a resident of Singapore
Student Pass Holder
Training Employment Pass or Work Holiday Pass

However, any person who holds a Work Pass issued by Ministry of Manpower, who is also not a resident of Singapore, may drive a foreign-registered vehicle in Singapore only if ALL these conditions are met:

He is the registered owner of the vehicle.
He resides outside Singapore.
He has a valid insurance certificate and road tax to use the vehicle on Singapore roads.
The vehicle is kept or used outside Singapore for a total period of 6 hours or more every day.
The vehicle has an Autopass Card to validate its entry/ exit at Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints and to pay for VEP/ toll charges.

it all depends...if you're visiting/tourist...you are allowed to drive into SG with your MY car & MY license....but for other purposes...you have to understand carefully...

Currently staying in JB but planning to move over to SG to save commute time.

Hows the btt, is the questions same as those on sgdriving.net?
Has anyone used online resources?

I checked and need to go to woodlands driving centre to register and take the btt test, then apply for conversion.
*
note than once u move over to SG....you need to convert to SG driving license( grace period up to 1 year to convert IIANM) and you CANNOT use a MY registered vehicle or any foreign registered vehicle for that matter in SG

1. I just bought a pr1ma here at malaysia. Am I still eligible to get a HDB in future?
2. How to apply for HDB?
3. How much budget do I need to put in?
4. If I were to go back MY, the HDB must be forfeited/sell?
*
1) From Singapore/HDB perspective...they require you to sign and acknowledge that you don't any overseas properties in whatever country.

2) Are you talking about brand new or resale? IF brand new HDB...either yourself or your spouse must be a singaporean...then only eligible to apply for those BTO/SBF, BTO/SBF apply online when HDB have those 'sales launches'.
BTO Sales Launches For example Nov 2017 BTO sales launches. It will be open for applications in Nov 2017

Otherwise you have to go resale(eg BOTH husband & wife are Singapore PR). Resale wise you can get it off from anywhere in the market, ads...websites...thru agents etc etc

3) Depends on the selling price. Mind you HDB resale units are more expensive compared to brand new from HDB. Rules requires you to have 20% of the amount in cash(5% cold hard cash min + 15% from both your CPF normal account)...then balance of 80% will be a loan. This is for HDB resale with a bank loan.

If you take a HDB loan, it can go up to 90% loan...meaning 5% cash & 5 % CPF. Again either side must be a singaporean to be eiligible for a HDB loan.

You would also need to take in account the fees/duties. eg Additional Buyer Stamp duties(resale units n for being Singapore PRs), stamp duties, lawyer fees...etc etc. These must be paid in cash(either cold hard cash or deducted from CPF)

http://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/residenti.../costs-and-fees
http://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/residenti.../costs-and-fees

4) Not sure about this portion

Please don't expect to be spoon fed...do yourself a favor & research online.....

Sorry I don't meant to be spoon fed. I had done research online and asking some peer but need some confirmation on it.
Thanks for your help anyway!  rclxms.gif
For Q4, one of my peer said he had to sell the properties without PR anymore while another says that he can extend the PR for long term (10 years) and own the HDB for rent.
*
if both sides are PR...please note that you are not allowed to sublet the ENTIRE hdb flat. Yes but REP nowadays can only renew for 5 years...no more 10 years option...
Unless he/she returns back to SG before the REP expires....then again SG government/ICA may even reject his REP renewal...since he/she hasnt been contributing to the nation of Singapore(eg via your CPF/IRAS statements). So expired REP......means stucked in SG cause once you get out...and when you return to SG...you will have to fill up the white card......one have to start securing a job to say the least before trying to apply for REP renewal...

Hi all,

Quick question to ask about taxes in SG. I read that it’s 15% max for foreigners. Will your employer deduct 15% upfront every month from your salary or is the system similar to Malaysia’s where we pay the monthly deduction then there is a yearly assessment?

Hope someone can share some details. Thanks.
*
There will be a yearly assessment
