I went back after spending around 12 years in SG. Transition is ok. Have to adjust to the changes for a while but will be on track quite fast. SG branding is good so job search is smooth but pay for sure is a lot less compare to SG, still can survive after adjusting. Get a lot of questions on why come back.

Hey a fellow returnee. I am on track to return by end of the year. Will also share my experiences after i do. maybe mid 2020 ba

I was told even her parents are from West.

She was asked to sign a document which will forbid her from working in SG anymore in the future. (Other than PR Renounce)

Oh well...
*
maybe she somehow say she leaving singapore for australia or new zealand so they let her take out.

Nope. Not PR. My co gave me the Employer CPF as a cash allowance, so never felt the need to apply. But higher taxes la.

Hi guys/gals, for those of you planning to start a family in SG, my wife and I got our first kid a few weeks ago. Thomson Medical (#1 most popular private hospital for childbirth), planned c-sec, 17.2k delivery charge of which 5.5k from medisave. Not including any of the previous doctor check-ups or future pediatrician visits.

Happy budgeting!
*
Congrats!

17.2k all in, includes nursery since infant is billed separately?

If I left the current job before 6 months I am in singapore, but I manage to get another job offer, is it necessary to pay extra tax?
*
QUOTE(M4A1 @ Dec 6 2019, 01:11 PM)
based on my past experince

when i am EP...i work 3 mth ..then i get better offer...and i quit
that 3 mth i do get tax and need pay IRB
*
yes. as long as u on EP, your company will hold your last month salary to settle tax first. no matter if u changed 3 company, and paid iras 3 times, all 3 need to do it.

Do you mean if chnage job within 6 months, but still work in Sg(same job) need to pay tax also?
*
yes . each employer's responsibiity is to withhold ur salary everytime a foreigner resigns. even internal transfers where u change company within same group also need to withhold salary and pay tax for u.

how many percent is the tax ?  if resign after 6 months, then no nned to pay tax , right ?
*
two separate things.

1. company will withold salary regardless of your employment period, as long as u are foreigner. i resigned after 6 years they also withhold 2 months.

2. your tax rate depends on what status you are in the eyez of singapore tax law. the 6 months thing is to determine whether they tax you on a non-tax resident rate or a tax resident rate. the 6 months do not need to be same employer.

the 15% tax is based on 15% of monthly salary or 15% of total salary obtained in 6 months if i resign / fail probation on 182th days ?
*
total salary. IRAS here never bother about monthly one. It's all about total salary.

Well, if I I fail the probation but I manage to secure another job, that's means after I gt kicked out from the company, I can directly go to work in the new company on the next day, I still need to pay taxes?
*
Yes. If the company don't plan to renew u, they will withhold your last month pay and pay taxes first. Any balance give to you. Then come year end when you submit your full year tax return, if they overpaid, they (iras) will refund you.

Anyway, long story short, You cannot run away one.

I am trying to look at this holistically. The job scope itself is good. Title wise it's two steps up from where I am. Did a few search around for benchmarks and the indicative salary is within range. Company is probably the largest in the region. So I am also quite stuck whether to accept or just stay put.
*
You may also want to consider whether you are coming down alone, or with +1 (with kids). The cost of living can be a real killer. Things like childcare, maid, car and rent can spike up easily and eat up whatever 'disposable' income you have have with a family to look after.

On the title :

1. Titles in Singapore are quite inflated, especially if you are in a bank or financial institution. Example, I was AVP in a bank, but in reality it's just a 'team lead' / 'assistant manager' equivalent, responsible for about 3 direct reports + 12 SSO guys. Nothing great. My wife's company has CFOs for every 'country' they operate in, but in reality it's just a Finance Manager in charge.

Did u manage to match ur SG salary in malaysia? How long hv u been in singapore before deviding to move back? I was thinking to relocate back to as i cant stand the environment plus lifestyle here in SG, the main rrason holding me back is obviously the SGD power.. but my life is meaningless here sad.gif
*
Match? Cannot match la. about 60-65% of my SGD pay when converted to MYR.
I've been in Singapore for 7 years (my wife 8 yers).

But that's solely looking at salary la.

The principle is simple : Use the savings to 'close' the 30-40% gap.

Say annual salary is SGD60k (combined SGD120k), and we save about 40k per annum (combined).
After 7 years, we have about SGD280k.

If buy a condo in Singapore, for a family, at least SGD1m,, of which SGD350k (MYR1,050k) down, of which 300k is for dp/loan etc, 50k for reno and stuff.
If we buy a landed dst, for a family, MYR1m, of which MYR300k down (100k dp, 200k reno/furniture).

So, the cost difference is SGD250k, or MYR750k. (+/-)

Say if I get a salary of 1:2, so my MYR salary will be MYR120k (combined MYR240k).
Then, the MYR750k x 6% = MYR45k.

Combined = MYR285k versus SGD120k (MYR360k), which is about 78-80% of SGD salary. If we can get above 70% of SGD pay (but converted) will be very comfortable d, and won't be that far off vs singaporeans. We also plan to leave the SGD we saved in Singapore REITs so we have SGD denominated recurring income to support our lifestyle in Malaysia smile.gif

You didn’t get your pr in Singapore? Most of my friends whom are currently working there got their pr, and a portion of their salary went into cpf.
*
QUOTE(woonsc @ Jan 1 2020, 04:31 PM)
Just curious why not? I am 5 months in, planning to apply once I get my 6th month pay slip.
The additional 17% by the company is a huge bump / forced savings.
*
i was lucky in the sense that both my employers here gave me CPF in cash, so while I did have to pay more taxes, the cash in hand meant more money for my own investments.
