Hi guys,

For those of you living/working/studying in Singapore, can I know what things would you have liked to know before going over?

For example, legal requirements on tax, employment law etc?

Basically, any knowledge (law related) that you couldn't source locally.

Thank you.

Need fellow sifu's advice

I got invited to SG for an interview for with Qualcomm. anyone working as engineer there wanna share some tips? haha

I believe the Embark/Disembark card is the only document i'll need other than Passport for the visit right?

if asked by immigration officer, it's okay to say i'm visiting for an job interview?

By the way i have some questions abt how to filling up the embark/disembark form:
user posted image

I will arrive in SG in the morning and fly back home by evening after the interview so:
Address in Singapore - didnt stay in any hotel, put the company address?
Length of Stay - not exactly 1 day...put 1 day?
Last City/Next City - i fly from Penang so Penang for both?

Thanks in advance. notworthy.gif

Guys,
I remember someone mentioned about this before.
If u r renting in singapore, be prepared to burn ur deposit as the landlord will pick mini small things saying u spoilt and caused defects to the house..
The defect is so small like holes on floors, wall in kitchen and living area that i dont even use most of the time.

The only argument they have is, i am the only tenant beside the landlord themselves.. and i m the one causing all these defects.
What can i do if i want to argue and dispute on this..
appreciate anyone who can share similar experience or provide any suggestion.
Thanks.

Hi All. I'll be working in SG starting next month. I have several things I would like to ask tho... hope it's alright for me to do so.

I went to SG last month and wanted to buy Starhub sim card but it was sold out so I bought Singtel. is it worth it? My room already got wifi so I won't be using a lot of data. 1GB per month is enough for me (I'm using my Celcom data for only 300MB per month lol)

*
1gb/month sufficient? I easily burn 5gb/month on mobile data, excluding the home wifi.

Merc monthly expenses around 2k around there

500k HDB around 2.5k ,

U can pay house installmeny minus off Ur CPF contribution ,

if total household income is 8k, household total CPF will be around 3k

Let's say 1.5k CPF for house installment, u need another 1k cash

So total expenses will be around 3k

Ur net salary left after CPF is 6.4k , minus off 3k, u left with 3.4k per month for othr expenses

My estimation

got PH fall in between -1 day.
Festive mood - slower 1 day.
Bus kilang raya weekend = RM3 yawn.gif

something TS might can add under "CPF and Income Tax".
For those that resign their 1st SG job under 183 days in SG, you will pay 15% flat rate as stated.
But, after you calculate yourself that you are over 183 days (on your 2nd employment), you can fill up NR-R form and submit to IRAS.
NR-R (IRAS) MS Word File - direct download

I'm guessing after IRAS approve, they will refund you the previous tax paid. (either hold until next year to offset tax or refund this year)
Will update you guys after I done mine....still need to wait 5 more days... laugh.gif

No need la... For Malaysian special. Once get degree = professional = EP. 2.5k also can get. Coz if 3.6k, is more expensive than local degree grad. How companies afford?

QUOTE(knwong @ Jun 25 2017, 12:20 PM)
A bit dangerous you keep on insisting that for Malaysian the rule is relax. Better just stick with black and white. Relax or not is entirely MOM's discretion
*
the B&W 3.6k for EP is just a guideline.
It depends on your certificate - degree/diploma & job position. when i 1st got a sakai job, my application just submit $2.2k - Mgmt Trainee yet able to get EP.

i did mine many years after i got my PR, just BTT, nothing else leh...
if you convert yours before your PR, then the license will have expiry date, and needs to be renewed once, after you get your PR.
if you convert yours after your PR, then the license will have no expiry date.

one of my friend who got his license before PR naively thought his license will be automatically extended/converted to become no expiry upon getting PR, and found out waaaaay after the expiry date(3 years after expiry, to be exact). so now he lost both his malaysia license and SG license, need to start all over again.
*
sorry if this is answered before, but if we convert while we are on SP/EP (not PR yet), are we required to surrender our Malaysian driving license? I saw some feedback that JPJ will ask us to surrender when we request for the report from them
