Intel i7 8700 is also a 6 core processor but has hyper threading. If you're looking for 8 cores, Ryzen 7 2700 would be your pick but that's a RM1,500 CPU. 16GB of ram is around RM750-RM800.

Well, Ryzen 7 2700 is a fairly high end CPU to pair with a 1050Ti.

I see. guess I will just stick with this spec for now. thanks again.

Hi all. Considering to upgrade my current pc before new tax law kicks in. Should I upgrade my current cpu/mobo/ram or just use the same cpu/mobo and upgrade to AIO cooler (currently only use stock cooler) for a bit of overclocking? Will it up to par with current cpu? Do advice me.

[Budget] upgrade 2k - 3k excluding monitor. Can overbudget a bit if necessary.

[Purpose] Gaming and engineering software

[Hardwares that will be re-use]

CPU: CORE I7 4770K
MOBO: ASUS MAXIMUS IMPACT VI
RAM: CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR3 1600 8GB
GPU: ASUS STRIX GTX970 OC EDITION 4GB
SSD: PLEXTOR M5S 128GB
HDD: WD CAVIAR BLUE 1TB
PSU: SILVERSTONE STRIDER PLUS MODULAR 750W
CASE: PHANTEKS ENTHOO EVOLV ITX

[Monitor resolution] currently 1920x1080. Upgrading to 3440x1440 120hz GSYNC ultrawide in future

[Games & softwares that use frequently] FPS games, engineering software

[Personal preferences]

Thanks in advance!

Are you waiting for the new gen to upgrade your GPU? If no, then you should upgrade your GPU first to at least a 1070Ti as that will give you a better performance boost. Your CPU is still a pretty good one for gaming.

Yes you can also get an AIO / air cooler to overclock your CPU to have some extra performance (though it won't be much). I'm not sure how RAM hungry your engineering software is but you can also lookout for a used DDR3 8GB to add on as that might be useful.

If new gen GPU will be launch soon might as well just wait for it. Guess I will just add another ram stick and an AIO / air cooler. Thanks!

Hi guys. After 7 good years my mobo decided to fail on me and its time to upgrade. I welcome any suggestion to bring my dead pc back to life and can last at least another decade.

[B][Budget] RM3k - RM3.5k for cpu, mobo, ram & gpu

[Purpose] Gaming, surfing, movie, engineering softwares.

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Silverstone strider plus silver 600W, Corsair H100i pro rgb, Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX casing, ssd, hdd.

Actually my current gpu GTX970 is still up and running but afraid that it will be bottlenecked by current gen hardwares.

[Softwares that use frequently] Chrome (lots of tabs), AutoCAD, SAP

Thanks!

Thanks @TristanX @myway1985 ! Really appreciate the input. My budget can stretch up to rm4k. So based on your suggestions I will go for :

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - 1399 - OK
ASROCK B550 GAMING-ITX/AC - 630 - cheaper than B550i aorus pro ax but for aesthetic aorus got extra point.
Kingston 8GB DDR4-3200 X2 / 16GB pny xlr8 3200mhz rgb - 298 - OK
zotac rtx 2060 twin fan - RM1429

Total = RM3756
