[Budget] As low as possible [Within RM1500, maybe can stretch to RM2k, preferable the former.]
[Purpose] Pfsense router build.
[Hardwares that will be re-use] Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse.
[Required] CPU, Mobo, RAM, PSU, SSD, Case.
[Personal preferences] Thinking of G4560, 120GB SSD, 8GB RAM. Don’t need a gpu. If motherboard with dual Intel nic available, would be nice, else any functional cheap motherboard (will get nic card separately). Mini Itx or smallest matx build. Are normal psu and semi-modular psu near the same price? If yes, then semi modular please.
[Others] Would it be possible to build an older generation i3/i5 system with DDR3 memory with the same budget?

Thank you.

Previous gen motherboard getting harder to find. How about these?

Core i3-8100 - 470
Gigabyte H370N-WIFI - 619
Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 X1 - 368
Kingston UV400 120GB - 189
Corsair VS 450W - 162
Coolermaster Elite 110 case - 199

RM2007 total (C-Zone prices)

If you can find these, switch the parts.

Pentium G4560 - 222
Asrock H270M-ITX/ac or Gigabyte H270N-WIFI - 440-600

IF you want NAS ready case, go for Fractal Design Node 304 at RM369

Thank you, this is great biggrin.gif

Btw, if I may, can I know the components if

1) I don't require dual intel nic motherboard [buying intel nic separately]. Realtek nic is fine. Still mITX.

2) If it's a matx system with the same budget: don't need dual intel nic[single nic, realtek is okay], case budget rm200 [I'll get a used one]. Rest of the budget for components.

I assume the only change for the two config above is motherboard, right?

Thank you again.

If you change to mATX, gotta get bigger casing as well.

I'm thinking of something like the Tecware Quad or something cheaper. I saw a couple in Garage sales. I can roughly allocate about RM300 for casing, lower better smile.gif. In that case, what type matx sytem I can build? Edit: The Tecware F3 seems like a good case.

For the mITX, even if I were to disregard dual intel nic as requirement, the build you suggested would be the cheapest right? Motherboard wise?

Thank you.

[Budget] RM1.5k [Lower the better if possible]

[Purpose] 24/7 PC. Will populate with 2-4 HDD in the future.

[Hardwares that will be re-use] None

[Monitor resolution] No Monitor. Headless.

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Want to run either multiple linux VM or Linux with multiple containers. No resource heavy applications.

[Personal preferences] Want to start with Athlon 200GE and upgrade when I'm able to. Want a MATX/ATX with 4 RAM Slots, can accept Ryzen 7 1xxx/2xxx CPUs in the future. Cheapest 250GB SSD. 8GB RAM. Used casing is okay.

[Location] Ipoh but don't mind going to KL to get the items or online.

Barebones PC:
CPU: ATHLON 200GE (235)
Mboard: ASUS PRIME B350M-A (349)
RAM: DDR4-2666 8GB (around 270) Make sure it is compatible!
PSU: CM MWE 450W (189)
SSD: Kingston A400 240GB (155)
Casing: Tecware Core MATX (89)

Current total: 1287

Is this what you wanted? With that processor and RAM, unsure if you can do multiple Linux VM.

This is great! Can I know the Motherboard and PSU sufficient enough for Ryzen 7 1700 or 2700? And if I go with the 1700/2700, what low power/low cost GPU should I pair it with?

I'm okay with running just one OS now [no VM] with multiple container. Currently running a Raspberry Pi with about 8 containers, its okay but looking for something much more powerful.

Thanks again.

Budget Not sure how much to set but as low as possible that fit the needs [previous rig was bought with around 3.5k, so around that range? +500]

Purpose for daily use, work use and gaming [1080p med-high] [looking to play new and upcoming AAA games]

Hardwares that will be re-use Dell U2312HM, mouse, keyboard

Monitor resolution 1080p

Games & softwares that use frequently Photoshop, Virtualbox, Autocad, Common games are factorio, banished etc.

Personal preferences
- parts that'll fit Asus AP201 case [haven't buy yet, thinking of it]
- motherboard that has 2 m.2 slots [if possible]
- PSU to accound for possible future addition of 2x 2.5" and 1x 3.5" drives
- for CPU, prefer air cooling but if AIO is a better option, i'm okay to buy it.

Other info Replacing my 3570k + gtx 670 rig [been pretty satisfied gaming with this rig]

One more thing. If I want to add Wifi capability, is it better to get Wifi-included motherboard, wifi usb adapter or a wifi pcie card?

Thanks in advance.

Too demanding for the budget. Part prices are going up due to crappy ringgit. I would advise you to buy it as fast as you can.

Try

Core i5-12400F - 799
Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE 120 - 138
MSI B660M-A Pro Wifi - 629
Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR4-3200 X2 - 218
OCPC RTX 3060 - 1298
Adata SX8200 Pro 512GB - 251
Silverstone Viva Gold 750W - 328
Asus AP201 case - 359

RM4020 total (Shopee prices)
*
Thanks for the suggestion.

If i were to just replace my current GTX 670 with OCPC RTX 3060, would that work well? My system is I5 3570K, Asus P8Z77-M, Cooler Master Hyper 612S, Silverstone Strider 600W, Corsair Carbide 400R case.

Thank you.

CPU will bottleneck the graphic card. Doesn't hurt to try though.

Hi, sorry, just one final question.

I cant buy the whole set as of now, so I can either 1 or 2 for now and upgrade later. Which option would be better?
and for No 1, If I don't need the wifi motherboard and can add on wifi card later [maybe wont have to], what board could I change to?

1. Get new set and use current GTX 670
Core i5-12400F - 799
Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE 120 - 138
MSI B660M-A Pro Wifi - 629
Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR4-3200 X2 - 218
Adata SX8200 Pro 512GB - 251
Silverstone Viva Gold 750W - 328
Asus AP201 case - 359 [might change to tecware flatline instead]

RM2722 total / RM2548 [with flatline] (Shopee prices)

or

2. use current set with new OCPC RTX 3060/3060 Ti [~RM1.3 - 1.5K]
current set:
i5 3570k
Asus P8Z77-M
KVR 4GB x2
Samsung 860 EVO SSD
4TB HDD x5
silverstone strider essential 600w
Corsair 400R

Thank you.

If TS is willing to go AMD then RM3.5K is actually quite doable:
tryingtolearn

Ryzen 5 5600 - RM689
ASRock B550M Pro4 - RM445
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB 3200 x2 - RM218
Sapphire RX6600 Pulse - RM1025
Adata SX8200 Pro 512GB - RM251
Silverstone Viva Gold 650W - RM299
Asus AP201 case - RM359

Total: RM3286

There's leftover budget for a decent quality cooler too (and a WiFi card, and the ASRock board even has a slot for that) icon_idea.gif
If you want to max out your budget you can even fit a RX6700XT in for RM1799 (and is faster than a 3060 Ti) icon_idea.gif

A RX6600 is not much slower than a 3060 either:

This is definitely much lower cost. RX 6600 seems to be 4% slower but ~20% cheaper.
AP201 case can seem a bit extra, I can swap from Tecware case, that can help lower cost more.

Does the 8GB (in RX) vs 12GB (in RTX) affect gaming much?

Another thing, this rig can be good enough for anything in next, at least 5 years?

Thank you!
