How about these?

Core i7-7700K - 1579
Coolermaster Hyper 212X - 189
Gigabyte Z270X Gaming K5 - 899
Corsair 8GB DDR4-2133 X2 - 520
Gigabyte GTX 1060 3GB DDR5 - 1100
Samsung 850 Evo 250GB - 482
WD Blue (go for 7200rpm only) or Seagate 1TB - 212
Super Flower Leadex Silver 550W - 359
Corsair Spec case - 299

RM5119 total (C-Zone prices)

Optional:
Acer R241Y 23.8" monitor - 639

Yes, LED TV would work but it may look too big.

Wow...5k that not include Windows right? Forgot to mention I maybe won't be overcloking CPU @ GPU. If lower the CPU will it bottleneck the GPU? Just bought an SSD also so can reuse that.

No windows.

GTX 1060 works fine with i5.
*
What more can I lower down to support GTX 1060? Or should I get GTX 1050 if on a budget? Need cut budget for monitor & windows.

For 1st time gaming rig build own or just get 2nd hand better?

Thats up to you. Wouldn't recommend lower than 1050 Ti for 1080p.

Remember, games will always get more demanding. Buy a new one if you can afford it.
*
So lowest for 1080p gaming would be 1050 Ti? What difference between Ti & non Ti model?

Sorry asking noob question. Thanks for guiding this noob.

GTX 1060 - RM915
Intel i5 7600 - RM798
Asrock H170 Pro4 - RM428
G Skill Aegis DDR4 Ram 4GBx2 - RM262
Apacer Panther SSD 240GB - RM319
WD Blue WD10EZEX 1T - RM230
Cooler Master Elite V2 550w - RM195
Cooler Master Master 5 Case - RM403

Is this setup ok to run 1080p at 60fps on full setting on AA games? What can I cut to lower the budget and still get 60fps? Thx sifu2 for the advice. I won't be overcloking also.

Hard to guarantee 100% 60 FPS on full settings but I would say high chance you are able to do that but bear in mind that there are some advance settings like Nvidia GameWorks tweaks that can significantly bring down the performance of the game, just make sure your "full settings" do not include them because they aren't easy to handle, even with a super high end GPU.

SSD is not a requirement to get 60 FPS so you may remove that if you want to save cost for now.
No need.
*
Will sacrifice some setting for better FPS. SSD is just for window & some games. If I upgrade latter from HDD to SSD will it be hard to transfer?

QUOTE(lolzcalvin @ Apr 15 2017, 12:26 PM)
note that 1060 has 2 variants, 3 and 6GB. which variant is that you have listed? 6GB can guarantee full setting and >60fps on most games due to higher cuda cores and vram than the 3GB.
*
I will be getting the 3GB variants. If I lower my CPU to i3 will there be a bottleneck? (i3 7100)

If you buy a 240GB SSD in the future and you have a 1TB HDD with 800GB of files then you need to choose which files to migrate over to the new SSD, or just format the whole PC again (this is recommended to reduce the chance of having symlinks issue after data migration).

Regarding the CPU, it depends on games, some games don't require i5 to run smoothly but some do, i5 is a safer bet in this case (you can downgrade to i5 7400/7500 to save cost, they are very close in terms of performance).
*
How about ram? Do i get the highest MHz that I can support or just anything. Also what the difference with those fancy looking colorful ram and just plain naked?

If you're planning to SLI I can see a reason to go X. If just stick with one GPU better get B350. My opinion at least. Can get other's add on with the savings.

For current 1080p gaming max setting, at least 4gb vram and above of gtx1060/rx470/480/570/580 is sufficient.
In rumor, game developer wont get higher ram consume more than 4gb vram for 1080p gaming because its more gamer who only get 4gb vram currently, but if willing to pay more, 8gb vram is better future proof in theory.

CPU for gaming, as long as no bottleneck your gpu, is ok at all.
But ryzen 1600 a bit overkill for just gaming 1080p, except u want streaming game or using for workloads.
Better get yourself at least 250gb ssd, because 120gb is not really enough for OS+ games which u want install, especially space hungry game.
*
How much can really future proof if go 8gb? Still doing my research. So dropping to Ryzen5 1400 would be ideal? Might have something running also while gamming. Yes 250GB SSD is my planing.

QUOTE(demetry @ Apr 28 2017, 05:25 PM)
i think gfx card 4gb or higher for those going for 29inch and above monitor.
*
My 32" TV will be my monitor while waiting to decide what monitor to buy. So how big screen effect vram?

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Apr 28 2017, 05:45 PM)
The total cost difference is quite big, from 2.5k to 3.7k to 4.3k  sweat.gif

Really hard to recommend anything if your budget range is too wide (or too flexible), it is better to fix an amount (or max budget) and build the rig based on it.
*
Still planning just show here for sifu2 opinion. I think my budget will be 3k. Will stretch a bit but not more than 3.5k.

I will narrow down to just 1 build soon.

Plan 2.0

MSI RX580 ARMOR 4GB - RM1030
RYZEN 5 1400 - RM819
MSI B350M GAMING PRO - RM435
KINGSTON VALUE 2133MHZ 8GB - RM299
KINGSTON UV400 SSD 240GB - RM399
WESTERN DIGITAL BLUE 1T HDD - RM234
SILVERSTONE ST500 PSU - RM229
NZXT S430 - RM399

TOTAL - RM3844 (Activelansing JB)

Your opinion on how to cut cost for this build. Can it run max setting on 32" TV 1080p screen? Should I downgrade the casing & just get it later. I might ditch SSD & HDD. Take my Sandisk SSD Plus 240gb from my laptop.

Your choice of gpu is sufficient to run max setting on 1080p screen for mostly today title.
Casing depends ba, better casing commonly result better airflow or easier hide cable etc, but there r ppl would grab cheaper casing for more funds to other parts.
SSD just up to u, its not much benefit for gaming with 500mb/s either 300mb/s read speed in real world gaming purpose.
HDD, haha. just for your information, western digital got a higher failure rate =w=
*
I like clean looking casing...most cheap one to striking...for me at least. Anymore pro & cons if get cheap cassing? Actually prefer case that have no window & very minimal design.

SSD mostly will be for Windows. I hate slow boot time's...kinda annoying to me. TotalWar Warhammer also load very slow on HDD. I'll think will ditched HDD since have 500GB & 1T portable HDD.

Hi!

Thinking of building gaming PC with this spec:

ASROCK H270M PRO4 SOCKET 1151 MAINBOARD - RM503
INTEL CORE I5-7500 - RM888
ID-COOLING FROSTFLOW 240L - RM305
G.SKILL RIPJAWS V SERIES 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4 2400MHZ - RM580
INTEL 600P SERIES M.2 PCIE 3.0 X4 256GB - RM480
GIGABYTE GEFORCE GTX 1060 WINDFORCE 6G - RM 1320
CORSAIR CX650M SEMI-MODULAR 80 PLUS BRONZE - RM360
TECWARE QUAD TRIPLE WINDOW MINI CUBE CHASSIS (WHITE) - RM185

All from Etechpc.. Total around RM4600++

is this build ok? any overkill components? Kindly reply
*
Cooler maybe? Not overclock CPU anyway. M.2 PCIE also seems overkill for just an i5. My opinion by the way I'm no sifu.

Thanks for the reply.. might replace CPU with i5 7600k and Z170M mobo.. found out it will be more suitable for the cooler.. cost wise have to topup another 140 which is still OK for me..

by the way the ssd is not suitable for i5 build? Kindly enlighten me
*
Your i5 will bootleneck your SSD. That's what I saw in a video on YouTube anyway. For M.2 or any fast SSD it's recommend to pair with i7. If you get i5 7600k and overclock it maybe good also. I'm also learning so take my advice with a grain of salt.

If your budget is around 4k then you can get a better PSU.
Sure.
Remove the AIO cooler if you want to save money, not really needed for a locked i5 build. As for the PSU, grab a better one if you can, add a 1TB HDD if you want more storage.
*
What PSU would you recommend. Not to expensive maybe tier 2?

QUOTE(demetry @ May 3 2017, 04:04 PM)
cpu is used for processing & calculation, ssh/hdd is for storage,, data storage. How i5 will bottleneck a ssd? consider if ssd is bottleneck.. even hdd is much more worse. so doesnt matter to me, u have extra mollah go buy ssd and plug into your pc if you want to have fast boot time.
*
I'm also not sure. Just saw one video about it. That's why I say take my advice with a grain of salt. The video only say higher rate ssd much better for higher rate cpu. It's was Techdeal on YouTube.

Has our local price gone up a lot in recent months?

KINGSTON HYPER FURY 2400MHZ 8GB - RM340

I just checked my friend's receipt which I configure mid to late last year, his Hyper X Fury DDR4 2600MHZ was bought at RM180.

Just curious about price hikes as I'm configuring one for myself and haven't been following the price list for awhile now.
*
I don't know... haven't seen the price before. But from web it's seems ram price is going up.

Superflower Leadex Silver 550W, around RM 350.
i7 is highly recommended for high end Nvidia GPU like GTX1070/1080/1080Ti/Titan X Pascal/Titan Xp etc, if you always play triple A titles and would like to run them in full settings then the i5 will bottleneck the card quite significantly, this has been proven in the past few releases in the recent months where i5 limit or restricts the card (underperforming).

Tight on budget? If yes, don't ever think of SSD, as you can add them later as an add-on easily.
*
How about Evga...what model would you recommend. The shop don't sell Superflower model. Corsair , Silverstone , Seasonic , Raidmax & Evga only.

How about this model

1. Corsair CX650 - RM339
2. Silverstone ST600 - RM385
3. Evga 650GQ - RM459

Hi Sifu's,

I'd like to get some recommendation for SSD.
Currently having Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB for OS & games.
Since it's almost full, thinking of getting a 240GB one.
What would you recommend for budget around RM500 ?
*
Samsung 850 Evo

Oh the shop that you are going to purchase your rig still got Seasonic PSU in stock? If yes then try to look for M12II-EVO, or spend more money in an EVGA 550W G2 (650 GQ if they don't have the G2 unit, G2 > GQ in terms of quality and warranty period).
*
Got but really expensive. They only have P860 & X-650/750/1050 model.

They do have Evga G2 unit but lowest is 650watt. Should I invest more if in the future I overclock? Not even sure if I want to overclock. Might ended up with much more expensive things if going that way with maybe just a little gain?

You can't go wrong with good quality PSU, it can last for many years and you can re-use it when you upgrade your system in the future. If you don't mind the extra cost then it shouldn't be an issue  biggrin.gif
*
So better get Evga G2. I see if I can stretch my budget. GQ still a good option?
