Dear sifus.

I found someone selling this online at around RM3300. Is this a good price for the following specs for a gaming desktop?

Intel i5 - 7400
Intel H110M DDR4 Chipset mobo
Nvidia GTX1060 6GB DDR5
8GB DDR4 2400mhz RAM
1TB 7200rpm HDD
120GB SSD
ATX 500W 80+ PSU
Sharkoon VG4-W Blue casing

Thanks

A bit on the expensive side. The PSU is questionable.

Thanks for the input. How much more expensive? RM500?

8GB DDR4 2400mhz RAM - 319 (Kingston)
1TB 7200rpm HDD - 210 (WD Blue)
120GB SSD - 276 (Kingston UV400)

Dear sifus,

I am considering to buy a higher end Nvidia GPU since AMD is expensive now and the AMD Vega is also very expensive. Nvidia Volta is still many months away right? My backup plan is to fall back on GTX 1060 6Gb GPU.

I need suggestions for the following desktop:

[CPU] Ryzen (I read that Intel chip is now not worth the price. I am not sure when CoffeeLake is available in Malaysia)

[Mobo] Must be compatible with the CPU. Overclocking is not necessary but can you give me both OC and non OC options? Can I request for more than 2 USB ports?

[GPU] Nvidia GTX 1070 (high end) or GTX 1080 (low end). 8Gb graphics memory. 1080Ti is over my budget. Is 1070Ti better than 1080? Do I need liquid cooling, or AIB/AIC-provided fans will do?

[Memory] 2 X 8GB

[HDD] I read that Samsung Evo is better than WD?

[SSD] Any

[PSU] Any

[Casing] Is ITX too small to support the cooling for the GPU? If not, then a bigger casing is preferred.

[Others] Anything else I missed? Btw, I don't need any fanciful RGB lighting unless this feature is part of the item.

Budget : 5k+ doable? If not, 6k+

Usage : Heavy but non-pro gaming. Some content creation. Some programming.

I will focus on the monitor later (maybe getting a widescreen)
No need keyboard or mouse or wifi adapter.

Thanks sifus.

Cooling relies on the graphic card as well.

Option 1 (ITX):
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - 1039
Gigabyte AB350N Gaming WIFI - 549
Kingston 8GB DDR4-2400 X2 - 638 (go for G.Skill FlareX if you could find it on sale)
Zotac GTX 1070 8GB DDR5 AMP! - 2279
Samsung 850 Evo 250GB - 487
Corsair SF 600 SFX power supply - 589
Fractal Design Node 202 (non-PSU version. Built-in PSU comes with crap PSU) or Silverstone ML08B/RVZ02 case - 389 (estimated)

RM5970 total (C-Zone prices)

Optional (switch to these for cube ITX case):
Super Flower Leadex Gold 550W - 429
Silverstone SG13B - 229

Option 2:
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - 1039
Asus Prime B350M-A - 445
Kingston 8GB DDR4-2400 X2 - 638 (go for G.Skill FlareX if you could find it on sale)
Zotac GTX 1080 8GB DDR5 Mini - 2659
Samsung 850 Evo 250GB - 487
Super Flower Leadex Gold 650W - 479
Corsair Spec case - 299

RM6046 total (C-Zone prices)
Thanks TristanX.
Sorry for the questions but I am a noob for rigs.

So I just rely on the cooling fans provided by the GPU instead of a separate cooling component?

For Option 1:
1) Why G.Skill FlareX? Better speed? If i can't find it on sale, should i still use Kingston?
2) How come Silverstone ML08B/RVZ02 is better than Fractal, since it is much more expensive?
3) Is cube ITX considered a mini ITX? Would cube ITX be a better choice if the aesthetics are not the requirement?

For Option 2:
4) Any key differences between Asus Prime B350M-A vs Gigabyte AB350N Gaming WIFI? Asus Prime B350M-A is cheaper so it has less features? Seems like Gigabyte AB350N Gaming WIFI has more USB ports?
5) ITX shouldn't be used for GTX 1080 due to insufficient space for cooling?

I noticed that HDD was not suggested. Due to limit of my given budget is it?

If I increase my budget to RM6500 to 7000, which component should I upgrade or add?

Let me know when RX580 is same price as cheapest GTX 1060 6GB.
*
Hi TristanX.

Has the price for RX580 8Gb dropped? Miners now focusing on Vega?

I noticed that you mentioned a few pages back that:
Sapphire RX 580 8GB DDR5 Nitro+ = 1599

Btw, how much faster is 1070 8Gb and 1080 8GB compared to RX 580 8Gb?

I was thinking of getting RX 580 so that the monitors are cheaper with FreeSync instead of G-sync.

Thanks for the link. According the this link, in all 3 resolutions, either one of the two variants of RX 580 8GB is no more than 10% better than a 1060 6Gb?
And 1080 8Gb is at least 50% better than RX 580 8GB?

Great!
There are several variants of GTX 1080 8GB. I assume the one they used in the benchmark is the founder edition?
My heart is currently eyeing the Zotac GTX 1080 8GB DDR5X Mini that you suggested for my rig.

It is worth spending extra bucks just to get a G-sync edition? I read your posts which seem to say that no point spending that much? Would having a high refresh frequency (144Hz) somehow mitigates any tearing that would normally resolved by whatever-sync?

I am considering whether to match it with a 4k resolution with only 60Hz monitor vs a 1080p with 144Hz monitor.
Any advice on choosing the right monitor that would not be bottle-necked by the GTX 1080 8Gb GPU?
Can it support 2 monitors of 1080p?

G-Sync doesn't come cheap.

2 monitor is not an issue. Definitely you will underutilize your GTX 1080 if you run it at 1080p on most of the games.
*
Exactly, G-sync is not cheap. Any suggestion to seek a balance for this? Ignore the whatever-sync and get a monitor?

Ok, i also feel that GTX 1080 would be an overkill for a 1080p monitor. Initially i was looking at GTX 1060 6Gb to match the 1080p monitor (then it is no longer an overkill). Then I realized that I could spend a bit more to future-proof it 2-3 years by upgrading to GTX 1080. Am I right?

To max out the GTX 1080 GPU, what kind of resolution and refresh rate should I aim for, in a monitor?

Monitor is entirely you. I'm using GTX 1080 on 1080p by the way. I just power limit it to 80% because it is currently overkill. I'm looking at Dell S2417DG if I wanna upgrade.
*
GTX 1080? But your signature says GTX 1070?

Why do you want to power limit it? To save electricity?

Just curious, why S2417DG? It is only 24 inch but i know it supports G-sync and is QHD. However, this is a TN screen. Why not IPS?

Didn't update my signature yet.

Yes, save electricity.

Because IPS 1440p 144hz will cost you a bomb.
*
Oh haha. Just saw your updated signature smile.gif

The Galax 1080 GPU you have, anything special about it, especially if compared to the Zotac Mini version?

Is anyone aware of the performance of GeForce GTX 1080 Mini ITX 8G? How does it differ from the typical GTX 1080?

Is GTX 1070 Ti worth it, as compared to GTX 1080? I read that it is cheaper and performs almost (slightly less) than GTX 1080.

It's extreme overclocked. The cooler doesn't do the job enough though. 82C on load. Bring the power limit to 80% is stock GTX 1080 speed.
*
Thanks for sharing. I suppose yours is very future-proof?

Any important difference between Zotac GTX 1080 8GB DDR5X Mini and Zotac GTX 1080 8GB DDR5X AMP! Extreme?
I understand that the former is cheaper by about RM250-RM280 and performs slightly lower in benchmarks?

Better heatsink and overclock when you pay more.

It is possible to overclock myself right? But it requires a professional to provide the right heatsink.. otherwise, the OC will crash the chip?

Yes, can be done with MSI Afterburner and its own software. OC too much could crash the chip. Watch the temperature too.
*
Wow! That's cool.
This means I either OC it myself and find a way to resolve the heat issue,
or pay extra to get a factory-OC chip with better heatsink given by the vendor such as the AMP version?

guys,

between corsair k70 lux and k70 rapidfire, which one is better? whats the difference xtually?

The prices difference are not much. In terms of usage, the differences are due to the switches (red vs brown) on the keyboards which have difference noise levels and tactile feedback to your fingers. It depends on your preferences.

Hi folks.
I want to buy a brand new rig.
Need it for some occasion gaming (but I am not a hardcore gamer).
No fancy RGB stuff and no need to have any monitor, keyboard or mouse.

I would like to have 16Gb RAM.
What can RM5000 get me? Should I get GTX 1080?

I am not sure if I should get Ryzen or Intel.

Thanks.

GTX 1080 needs much more budget. How about these?

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X - 999
Asus Prime B350M-A - 429
Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 X2 - 674
Galax GTX 1070 Ti 8GB DDR5 EX Sniper White - 1999
WD Blue or Seagate 1TB - 173
Corsair TX 650M - 429
Corsair Spec case - 279

RM4988 total (C-Zone prices)
*
Thanks TristanX.

I suppose GTX 1080 (even the lowest end of GTX 1080) is better than GTX 1070 Ti?

What if I bring up the budget to RM6000?

I may be doing some programming. No serious movie-making types of video editing.
The usual web surfing, MS office etc.

Ryzen is still better, compared to Intel, for gaming given the price-point, for CPUs?

I read that AMD Vega is still too expensive as compared to Nvidia for the GPU price-point at the moment?

Thanks!
