Would like to upgrade my current 8 years old "entertainment" PC, the processor(AMD Athlon™ II X2 250) seems no longer able to handle window 10, always high CPU tongue.gif

[Budget] 2k+-

[Purpose] Movie (Download + Watch), net surfing (Youtube, FB)

[Hardwares that will be re-use] HDD (current have 4 so need motherboard that support more than 4 SATA) , keyboard / mouse

[Monitor resolution] Monitor not needed, but prefer/need output up to 4k (@60Hz? or higher?)

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Chrome, Xunlei, MPC

[Personal preferences] I5 (8400?) or any similar level AMD? , Asus TUF B360 PLUS GAMING? min 8GB RAM, Normal casing will do.

[Location] KL

Of coz, the more budget the best tongue.gif
But then dont too low spec, plan to use for another 8-10 years tongue.gif

First of all thanks for the suggestion.
Seems AMD is better choice for me

QUOTE(mbr @ Oct 23 2018, 02:03 PM)
Suggest Ryzen 2400G + B450 Motherboard (eg Gigabyte B450M DS3H) + 8GB DDR4-3000
[estimated around RM 1400]

Motherboard supports HDMI2, HDCP 2.2, 4 SATA, etc...
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450M-DS3H-rev-10#sp

Next, reuse PSU and Casing, and whatever HDDs you want to add in.
*
For PSU, since mine is so old, i think i will just get a new one.
if were to use the casing, means i need to assemble everything by my self?
not sure am i able to do that blush.gif

How about these?

Option 1 (4C, 8T):
AMD Ryzen 5 2400G + Asus ROG StriX B450-F - RM1225 ( https://www.lelong.com.my/pwp-asus-rog-stri...9-10-Sale-P.htm )
Kingston 4GB DDR4-2666 X2 - 320
Super Flower Leadex Silver Eco 500W - 259

Option 2 (6C, 12T):
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 + Asus ROG Strix B450-F - RM1275 ( https://www.lelong.com.my/pwp-asus-rog-stri...7-01-Sale-I.htm )
Kingston 4GB DDR4-2666 X2 - 320
Super Flower Leadex Silver Eco 500W - 259
Random basic graphic card - RM150 (estimated)

I suggest you ask around for casing with least 4 HDD bays. Option 2 will last longer due to 2 extra cores.
*
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 don't have build in graphic, since i need 4k output, is there any graphic card within that price range can do so?

Also, is there any motherboard and casing that can support more than 4 HDD bay?

4K will need more expensive graphic card. Gigabyte GT 1030 at RM359.
https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1030OC-2GI#sp

The recommended mobo has 6 SATA ports.

Casing these days doesnt have four 3.5" bays. You have to check with seller.

A noob question : AMD Ryzen 5 build in graphice can support 4k? how many hz? confused.gif
search around but unable to get a concrete answer sad.gif

Its not the CPU. Its the graphic card. I already linked the GT 1030 spec. It says 60hz.
*
Sorry for misleading.
The build in graphic for AMD Ryzen 5 2400G question is actually another question.
coz i was thinking can i take Ryzen 5 2400G and just utilize the build in graphic (if it has 4k), then can save on the graphic card.

I do aware of GT 1030 can support on 4k@60hz, wanna see can skip this or not.
or another option for me is, utilize the build in graphic first for 1080p (since i haven get the TV that support 4k), then only add on the graphic card later when i have 4k TV tongue.gif

Should be ok. HDCP 2.2 also supported, as with the board I listed.

https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/8520/amd-...view/index.html
*
Able to support up to 4k@60hz, not bad
Should be taking this

QUOTE(TristanX @ Oct 24 2018, 12:22 AM)
Sadly 2400G has 8X PCIE lanes. It will bottleneck future graphic cards. It may not bottleneck lower end graphic cards though.

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/...xpress_Scaling/
*
With my usage, guess i wont need 16X PCIE graphic cards
due to budget constraint, seems AMD Ryzen 5 2600 + build in graphic more suitable for now
Anyway thanks for those info given smile.gif

So should be in this spec / price:
AMD Ryzen 5 2400G - RM714
GIGABYTE B450 AORUS PRO - 499
KINGSTON D4 2666 8GB - RM319
PSU - RM200 (estimate)
Casing - RM200 (estimate)

there goes RM 2k bye.gif

If you want an ultra budget solution, just reuse any computer from the past 5 years, add a GT1030 would probably be ok.
But unsure if it will last another 3-5 years like you wanted.
*
sadly, my current desktop is too old, only HDD can be reuse

QUOTE(TristanX @ Oct 24 2018, 01:50 PM)
If no gaming involved and 1080p videos max, Core i3-8100 with built-in GPU is more than enough.
*
But i'm targeting 4k
i3 8100 + GT1030 ?
seems will slightly cheaper by.... less than RM200 sweat.gif

He means i3-8100 only,  no GPU

but I cant find H370 or B360 boards that has HDMI 2.0

QUOTE(TristanX @ Oct 24 2018, 03:02 PM)
I can't promise you how much 4K needs for the performance.

I think i will just proceed with Ryzen 5 2400G, since not really huge different on the price.
Thanks for the suggestion and advice thumbup.gif
