Hello Sifus,
Looking for your advise or suggestions regarding upgrading my old build. Is the current specs good enough to just upgrade the GPU to a new GTX 1070 without changing anything else except maybe upgrading the RAM to 2x 8gb DDR3 rams? Would like advise on if doing this would bottleneck the card or not as well or if which parts could be upgraded to avoid that.
Or would it be better to just spend RM 3-4k on a completely new setup that would be good to last for another 3-5 years?
The rig will be mainly be used for casual gaming on games like far cry primal, star wars battlefront, diablo 3, overwatch etc. Looking to get around a stable frame rate of around 70-80 fps averagely for a 24" 1920 x 1080 screen. Of course higher would be better.
Old Specs- CPU - CORE I7 2600 @ 3.4 GHZ MOBO - ASUS P8P67 LE REV 1.03 RAM - 2 x 4Gb Corsair DDR3 1333MHz SSD - Sandisk 128gb HDD - wd10ealx-009ba0 GPU - MSI N560GTX TI TWIN FROZR II PSU - CoolerMaster GX 650W Case - Cooler Master Elite 430 Black Monitor - Samsung syncmaster bx2450 - 24", 1920 x 1080 (Looking to upgrade this to a 27" or 31" Screen as well if possible) Thank you!

QUOTE(TristanX @ Apr 10 2017, 08:24 PM) You just need to upgrade your graphic card. GTX 560 Ti is not powerful enough to max out at 1080p for today's game. Alright. Will do that then. Thanks alot Tristan!

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Apr 10 2017, 08:41 PM) I have seen few rigs with i7 2600 + GTX1070 combo and the CPU bottlenecks the GPU when running CPU demanding games, just make sure you lower down (if you don't mind) those CPU demanding settings in return for a more stable frame rate. Hey thanks for the reply! Would upgrading the CPU to some of the latest I5/i7s solve this bottleneck issue ? My concern would be the MOBO not being compatible or already too old for the new processors. Thanks!

QUOTE(bobowyc @ Apr 11 2017, 06:31 PM) You'd have to upgrade to the same CPU series, if you're running a i7-2xxx series, u can only upgrade to that maximum series, be it for example; i7-2770K or something. lol. You cant fit in new CPUs like i7-7700K into that mobo. The cpu does not fit. If you want you can upgrade to the Haswell series CPU, the i7-4000 series, since you're running on DDR3. Lol. It may save you on some cost like RAMs. But then.. Its better just saving a bit more and buy an i5-7000series and a decent cpu + your 1070. Haha.. Should be good enough to last.. xD Thanks for clarifying that! Learned something new as well. I'll just change the GPU to the 1070 then for now.

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Apr 11 2017, 06:55 PM) So far only the i7 6700/7700 (excl. Intel Extreme series) are known to have almost zero bottleneck issue when pairing with GTX1070. The highest tier CPU that your mobo can support is the i7 3770 and you are likely won't be able to find any new unit in the market now since it is long obsoleted. My suggestion is stick with your i7 2600 first, perform the entire CPU platform upgrade only if you really cannot "tahan" in the future Yes. I'll probably get the "itch" again in a few months to change the mobo and processor. Just doesn't seem right to give only one part an upgrade and leave the rest alone.

QUOTE(bobowyc @ Apr 12 2017, 01:01 AM) Hmm. You can go ahead with that, but I think it will bottleneck your cpu.. If not you'd have to downgrade to 1050ti maybe.. Lol. already bought and installed the 1070 haha. I looked for some other resources as well such as this vid on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eg9h7AdN0gwprobably Like you said it will bottleneck, when on CPU heavy games. Will most likely upgrade the Mobo and processor in the future as well. Thanks alot for your advice and suggestions!

QUOTE(bobowyc @ Apr 12 2017, 06:09 PM) Hahaha. Oh. Might as well upgrade straight away. Lol. Medium mobo is about 500+. Plus cpu could about 900. Oh and your ram. About 300. If you can reuse your psu is better. Lol. Save some cost there. Like my work pc. Haha. Spent about 800 only. Or less. Haha.. case and psu already got, so I save about 400+ there. Lol What Mobo/CPU/RAM would you suggest? Planning to use back the PSU, SSD, HDD & Casing as well.

QUOTE(bobowyc @ Apr 12 2017, 06:36 PM) If your budget is still 3-4k, u can get a better mobo and cpu. Maybe a 1.5k mobo and a 1.5k cpu. Like i7-7000series i think.. lol Then the ram can be 8GB of any kind, about another 400+. If you still have budget, u can go for 16GB ram, about 500+.. Unless u already deducted the 1070 in your 4k budget.. Lol.. Then that leaves you with about 2.5k to spend. Go with an i5 of any series and a mobo with Z170 or Z270 if u can. ahhah The ram can be any brand you want, since their price is almost similar.. Lol. Im using Corsair and G.Skill. Both diff PC, both also good. haha. And my work pc is Value Kingston ram. lol i did already deducted the 1070 from the 4k budget haha! after going through the other thread of pp showing of their rigs it's getting harder and harder to stick to the budget lol. I'll probably save up abit more to have a larger budget down the road to upgrade to this --> "Maybe a 1.5k mobo and a 1.5k cpu. Like i7-7000series i think.." . Thanks alot for your help bobowyc! Really appreciate it!
