Been reading comments. So many conflicting views on Ryzen and i7.

So am i right to sum up that Ryzen is better than i7 in multitasking but falls short of i7 in gaming?

I am planning to build a PC to be used as my workstation and also for some gaming (CS:GO, Dota 2 and some MMORPGs).

Current PC is laggy (i5 2400) - mostly due to heat i guess, the temperature fluctuation is very high, causing lag spikes which annoy me a lot.

I open like 30 tabs in 2 of my browsers always and tens of Microsoft Excel, Word, Paint & few other programs.

I usually also keep games open without closing them.

Most importantly, i want to keep antivirus open without it slowing down my computer.

I also don't like my PC running hot as i think it causes spikes. So a build with aftermarket coolers is preferred.

In short, for the tasks that i have mentioned: Ryzen or i7?

Budget can be anywhere from 5K to 10K.

This build will be used for dual monitor setup. One for gaming (1080 TN), another for work and other stuffs (4K). Will run them together sometimes if i need to multitask heavily.

Thanks.

Building a new workstation cum gaming station.

Will be opening lots of applications such as chrome tabs, firefox tabs, excels, words, PDFs, paints, anti virus, few MMORPGs, CSGO and DotA 2.

It will be a dual monitor setup.

CPU: Ryzen 1700

Motherboard: Must support NVMe SSD

RAM: 32GB or 64GB DDR4 3200MHz ram

GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega, will be using my 750 Ti till Vega is launched

SSD: Reusing 500GB Crucial MX100 SSD, is upgrading to Samsung 960 Pro worth it? More concerned about the IOPS and 4K speed.

Power Supply: Please advise

Casing: Would like to get a super cool looking white casing with good ventilation and cable management

Would also like to get my PC as cool and as quiet as possible, any recommendation for fans and coolers?

Lastly, would like to do RGB lighting for my PC as well.

Thanks.

No budget range?

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 - RM 1599
MSI X370 Gaming Pro (RGB) - RM 1000
G.SKill Trident Z RGB 32GB (8GB x 4) DDR4 3200MHz RAM - RM 1670
GPU re-use
SSD re-use
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 219
Superflower Leadex Gold 650W White - RM 479
Phanteks Eclipse P400S Tempered Glass RGB White - RM 419
Corsair Lighting Node Pro - RM 289

Total: RM 5675 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)

The casing above supports MSI Mystic Light Sync feature of the MSI X370 mobo. Since CPU overclocking is not in the topic so a 3rd party CPU cooler is not included in the build list now (will rely on AMD Wraith Spire for now).

RGB everything, so I picked a set of RGB RAM, as well as Corsair RGB LED strip & its controller, as for the casing fan, you can go for RGB fan like NZXT AER, Corsair HD120 RGB & Thermaltake RIING RGB etc.

960 Pro is fast but expensive, do you deal with a lot of file transfers or small block of files everyday? If yes then it will benefit you, if no then I wouldn't recommend you to get it unless you have a lot of budget for it, hardly feel the difference between a NVMe SSD and SATA SSD in real life normal usage patternĀ  whistling.gif

And I am not sure if you need the monitors or not, you said it will be a dual monitor setup but didn't tell us whether you need them in the build list or not. Chances of you owning the monitors are there so I'll skip it for now.

Hi bro, thanks for the suggestion.

Made some adjustment (please comment):

Ryzen 1700
Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3
G.SKILL TridentZ RGB DDR4 2x16GB
Leadex II Gold 650W
Corsair HD120 RGB
Re-use GTX 750 Ti while waiting for Vega
Re-use Crucial 512GB MX100 SSD

Few questions:

1) I changed the mobo because i think i will not use all the features in the X370 - what do you think?

2) I also changed the ram from 4x8GB to 2x16GB as i may add another 2x16GB in the future, is this alright? Also, can this ram run smoothly at 3200MHz?

3) I also plan to have Ryzen 1700 overclocked 4.0GHz, do you have any recommended cooler?

4) Casing wise, as i put my rig on my left, is there a casing with glass on its right side instead? With RGB + good ventilation + cable management.

5) I also need bluetooth and WiFi card (Unifi 100Mbps), does the motherboard come with bluetooth capability? Can't find any info on this.

6) I have set my eye on BenQ Zowie XL2411Z for FPS Gaming. Can recommend me another 24 inch IPS monitor for work/movie/MMORPG/non-fps gaming purpose? Thinner bezel is a plus since i am using 2 monitors.

7) Is there any SSD that is considerably better than Crucial MX100 at IOPS and 4K speed but still remains in the budget range? Honestly speaking, i feel that the MX100 is still quite slow.

8) Do you recommend NZXT Hue+ with Aer RGB build over Corsair Lightning Node Pro with HD140 build?

Thank you.
