Anyone can give me a short brief about what is SSD? Please make it short and easy to understand as I search over the article about the SSD and HDD. It is very confusing me.

1) I know SSD can read, write data faster and also start up window faster, but does it store data as well? or it just help to boots the HDD become faster?

2) If I get a SSD, do I still need the HDD?

3) I saw some SSD is like a ram stick that plug on the mother board and some is just like normal hard drive. sSo what's the difference between these two models.

4) The SDD storage is way smaller than HDD. So how many gb is recommend to take? and what's the price?

Thanks in advance.

SSD is just like a HDD as in they can store informations. Just like a pendrive and a SD card.

1) It is faster than a HDD thats why ppl use it to boot games or OS(windows). They store information differently using different technology. It does not help to boost the HDD they are 2 completely different type of drives.

2) if you want to, but not necessary. However the main reason people go for both is because SSD cost much more per GB compared to HDD. So they will keep the OS and games in SSD to load faster and other files such as pictures in HDD. A 1 TB SSD can cost more than RM 1000 whereas 1 TB of HDD cost only RM200+

3) Those that look like a RAM sticks is called a NVME SSD it has few advantages e.g takes up less space and is faster than a regular SSD (last I checked this is true). However you have to make sure your MOBO has this M.2 slot for the NVME SSD.

4) Prices varies but generally a 120 GB SSD cost around RM 250 whereas the 1 TB SSD can cost up to RM 2000. I personally think that the 120 GB is enough just to put OS and a few games in there. Unless money is not a problem then go for as much as you can afford biggrin.gif

Hope I helped you

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - 1039
Asus Prime B350-PLUS - 533

Sapphire RX 580 4GB DDR5 - 1599
WD Blue or Seagate 1TB - 210
Corsair VS 550W - 248
Thermaltake Versa case - 169

RM4058 total (C-Zone prices)

Thats not even including monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Yes, I know the RX580 issue so I said in the future.... By that time it will revert back to the normal RM1300 for the 8 GB model right? Further more, if the budget is increased to RM 4200, it should be able to fit a monitor considering the GPU is RM 300 cheaper.

Also, is there any news when is the earliest next gen GPU coming out from both AMD and Nvidia?

Thanks for your reply biggrin.gif

That's up to you. Both are good brands.
By that time, prices could be different as well. USD affects the prices.

Maybe Samsung S24F350FHEPLS 23.5"(TN) at RM514 or LG 24MP68VQ 24" (IPS) at RM583 for the monitor.

Thanks for the monitor suggestion. Is it the best cheapest free sync monitor? biggrin.gif

Anyways the mining craze will die down sooner or later and non serious miners will most probably sell all their GPUs as second hand. Soon second hand AMD cards will flood the garage sales section and prices will go quite low I believe. Just my speculation.

Also, any other good PSU alternatives other than the one you recommended?

Hey guys I have a few plans that i need some advice and review from from you guys.

CPU - R3 1200 (500)
GPU - GT 1030 (350)
MOBO - B350 (500)
RAM - 8GB (350)
PSU - Any suggestions?(500)
Case - (150)
HDD - 1TB (200)
Monitor - (500)

Total 3050

Here's the scenario. I am planning to build a rig to be cheaper on the long run, hence the imbalanced build. My planning is 3 years later (assuming AM4 still supported) I will only need to change CPU and GPU budget around 2.5k (total 6 years cost will be around 5k). Others will still be the same. However with this rig I will only have a GT 1030, yet it cost 3k is really ridiculous.

So can you guys please help me optimize this build better, maybe more balanced, yet keep the upgrade path open. Or maybe is it better to have "one off" builds without bothering much about upgrade paths. My current budget is RM 3000.

Planning to use this rig for some older less demanding games (Skyrim etc) for now and also should be able to run autocad etc. Later down the road I wish to be able to play newer more demanding games but for now this will have to do.

Thank you in advanced.

P.S. the prices are rough estimates I could be very wrong.
