[B][Budget] RM2000

[Purpose] Gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] My preference is to maintain most of it
Here is what I currently have

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

[Monitor resolution] 1080p, I already have a BENQ XL2411P

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Current gen games, I find that my copy of Street Fighter 5 slows down terribly when I use some character mods.

[Personal preferences]
I prefer to upgrade only one or two items in my current hardware. I am fine with how most things are right now, I just find it weird that I get slow down when I'm playing SF5 with mods.
Then again, my PC is 10 years old.

Complete upgrading of your rig is recommended.

i5-8400 with B360 motherboard and 8gb ddr4-2400 (around rm1450)
add a decent 250gb ssd (eg samsung 860 evo at rm280) and good 550w psu (eg superflower silver eco at rm260)

Can reuse your R9 380 and hdd.

I've got several questions,

1. Is the slowdown I'm facing while gaming due to the processor or RAM?
2. If I doubled my budget, would you recommend that I still use the same GPU?

1. likely CPU. you could check through monitoring cpu and gpu usage while gaming. See whichever seems to be running like 95++% when the stutters happen

2. At 4k budget, I would recommend GPU upgrade to a gtx1070Ti. You would be comfortably running games at 1080p for a couple of years at high or ultra settings.
*
Alright, thanks.

I thought I could get away with just changing the GPU again, but that might not suit my already aging motherboard.

I'll check the cpu and GPU usage to be sure though.

I have an old PC at home that I'm thinking of doing some simple upgrade. I have the following questions

1. I have a GA-P55A UD3 Mobo which has a LGA1156 CPU socket fitted with an i5. I want to fit in a i7-860 processor but they are now obsolete. Where can I find a PC store that still sells old stuff? Prefer physical store over online.

2. The same PC has a R9 380. If I install a RX 580 would it be a significant difference?

I advise against spending any more money on that old platform. Any CPU on it bottlenecks any mid range graphic cards onwards. If you want to squeeze more out of it, get a good third party heatsink and overclock.

RX 580 will give at around double the performance. Still needs the CPU.
*
Ah that does make sense.

I'd get the benefit of the GPU if the CPU isn't gimped.

Thanks for saving me some ringgit.

Help me with this question, under what circumstance would I get an intel over an AMD CPU if I'm building a new computer?

for now, no circumstance. AMD is the more powerful one with their Ryzen 3000 series.

AMD has better price/performance. They are equal or better next week. Next gen is coming out.
*
Is this budget dependent or are AMDs better across the board?

Across the board.

That sounds great.

How soon will those new CPUs and X570 boards reach our shores?

I already said earlier. Next week. Worldwide launch on 7th (probably 8th for us).
*
That sounds convenient.

I figured it would be a couple of weeks at the very least to arrive here.

How reliable are the following brands
Zotac
Galax
Super flower

I see a lot of builds have these recommended but I'm not sure if I'd recommend these to friends even though they are the more economical option.

Zotacs are known to have poor temps except for their higher end models like Zotac extreme but they are the only one who offers 5 years warranty (registration required).

Galax, using a GTX 1070Ti HoF and GTX 1070 EXOC for almost 2 years now, both great temps and no issue so far. Very satisfied with the brand.

Super Flower is one of the big boys for PSU that makes quality PSU. Highly recommended.
*
Thanks, looks like should take a chance on the Galax and super flower.

I want to upgrade from an R9 380 to a 2060.

Is it wise to get it now or should I wait for the super to come out?

I just want to game at 1080p so the 1660TI was my first choice but some have pointed out to me that I should just fork over the extra cash for an RTX 2060 even if I dont care about 4k gaming.

Thoughts?

RTX 2060 super is already out starting @ Rm1,800. For 1080p, just go with RTX 2060. They're relatively cheap now.
*
Oh it is out? I thought they were going to be released in late August.

What's a good price range for the non super 2060, RM1500.

They are already out smile.gif

Can go for these:

https://shopee.com.my/-GALAX-GeForce-RTX-20...7182.1831205093

https://shopee.com.my/ZOTAC-RTX-2060-E-TWIN...6108.2218980444

Galax = 3 years warranty

Zotac = 5 years warranty
*
Hey those are affordable, thanks for the links man.

I asked a few posts back if these brands are reliable or not and was informed of their warranty period. 3 to 5 years warranty is great but how is their customer service?

I usually go for gigabyte cards because the ones I had didnt give me any problems so I never had to deal with their customer service before.

Customer service for Zotac is great. RMA'd a Zotac card before and it took around 1 month to get back.

As for Galax, never dealt with warranty claim before. Not very sure too haha.
*
What's the Zotac RMA process like? You go through them (distributor) or through the shop/seller as first point of contact?

If I buy a B450 MOBO with the intention of installing a 3600 on it, will stores help me with updating the BIOS of the MOBO to support my new CPU? I do not own a Zen or Zen + CPU at home so I cant do that.

1. Alamak the budget cannot up already
this one i asked for 3.5k
I even wish could spend 3k only for rig.
Cause i dont have monitor etc yet

*
I noticed you mentioned idealtech.

They were having some promo that I still think is on, where they preselect and build rig for a set price.

The cheapest is RM1899. Have you considered that for your needs? Then you can spend RM 250 for a HS50 headset, use cheap mouse and keyboard combo from logitech at most RM100 and spend on a 24" Acer monitor that's RM600. Use the balance on games that you built the rig for.

I assume that you dont need to buy software like ms office, are ok with using a free unregistered legal version of windows 10 and have a table and chair already.

Upgrade to Ryzen 5 3600 + B450 board + 16GB RAM + SSD + GPU will be good enough.
*
To upgrade to zen 2 and use a b450 board, doesnt he need to flash bios using another zen or zen + chip?

Do stores here help you flash bios if you want to pair a zen 2 chip with last year's mobo models

any workaround or which mobo to change to if the bios is not updated ?
*
Workaround no 1
If buy from store, ask nicely if the store can update for you

Workaround no 2
Spend a bit more and get x570 board. Confirmed work with new cpu

Workaround no 3
If dont want to spend, ask your friends if anyone can do it for you or they can loan you a zen or zen+ CPU.

Workaround no 4
If you must have b450 board, wait for the b450 MAX series to come to our shores. Right now they just released last week globally. Those confirm work with zen 2.

Im building a PC for my little brother
and retired parents at their home. Let me know what you think.

The PC must meet these requirements:
1. Flexible MOBO for future-proof and upgrade-ability.
2. PC to last at least 5 years for high to med gaming.
3. Gaming will be done at 1080p and 60 fps for now.
4. Must have MS Office for retired parents to do their work.

Here's my build:
Ryzen 5 2600 RM609
16 GB 3200 Mhz RAM Kingston hyper X RM445
ASUS TUF X570 WIFI RM1,105
ODD (yes really) Asus RM55
250 GB SSD Samsung EVO RM209
1TB HDD Barracuda RM175
RTX 2060 Zotac Amp RM1,639
24" viewsonic VX2458C RM669
650W TXM RM389
Fractal Meshify C RM435

The rest is non hardware stuff that you're probably not interested in but I'm putting it anyway to remind myself
