Acer will have better colour cause it's VA panel. Having said that, 1050ti isn't enough to push demanding titles to 144hz. You could opt for 8GB ram only and get a 1060 6gb instead.

Yes it is. Minis will run hotter compared to normal dual fan cards. Having said that, they are still a good budget card which you can limit the temps through programs.

Are you waiting for the new gen to upgrade your GPU? If no, then you should upgrade your GPU first to at least a 1070Ti as that will give you a better performance boost. Your CPU is still a pretty good one for gaming.

Yes you can also get an AIO / air cooler to overclock your CPU to have some extra performance (though it won't be much). I'm not sure how RAM hungry your engineering software is but you can also lookout for a used DDR3 8GB to add on as that might be useful.

Strix OC hands down. It's the other way bruh, 3 fans = less noise cause better cooling as compared 2 fans only. Strix 3 fans GPUs usually won't go pass 70c.

If i'm getting Asus Strix 1060 +i5 8400, how bout MOBO?

Looking at GA H370 Aorus Gaming 3 or B360M Aorus Gaming 3?
Other recommendations are welcome as well 

With that budget you could perhaps get i3 8100 and 1050ti. Any parts that you can reuse? Or you're gonna build from scratch?
