So for basically 1k, the only choice for a good CPU is 11400f?  sad.gif  sad.gif  sad.gif  sad.gif

What's the range of CPU for ryzen/ intel? 5600 and 11600?

Yeah, unless you want to wait for Alder Lake to arrive (might be better to wait though as Alder Lake is coming in the next 3 months) icon_idea.gif

Once again, please go for branded on 6k rigs. You can get RTX 3060 Ti.

WTB Repeat message for people who don't read previous replies.

You cannot overclock on budget CPU, stock cooler and budget motherboard. They are a lot more expensive.

Current rig is an i5 3470, gpu died a while ago. Not sure if i should go for a new rig and run onboard graphics or upgrade current rig with overpriced GPU. Please advice

Like you said. Overpriced GPU. Wait for Ryzen 5000 APU. Should be coming soon.

GPU prices are still very high, so it's either a prebuilt, or wait until October/next year for Alder Lake CPUs if you want the DIY route icon_idea.gif

What games? Your build is basically has very little tuning capabilities apart from the GPU, but I think overclocking the 1030 is not going to yield any substantial performance improvements sweat.gif

You'll have to swap the GPU and possibly the PSU if it's a low quality one, but finding one right now is neigh on impossible sweat.gif

You have a few choices:

1. Either get a 10400F/11400F + B560 board, then find a GTX1060 (preferably the 6GB model) or a 1050Ti on the second hand market if you can icon_idea.gif

2. Go for the 5600G/5700G + B550 board (they should be available in August), then add in a GPU at a later time. Do note that going this route also allows you to upgrade to higher end Ryzen chips if the board VRMs are capable enough icon_idea.gif

3. Buy a cheap GPU (something like the GT1030 GDDR5 version at the very minimum and wait for Alder Lake CPUs to arrive, and then rebuild an entirely new machine icon_idea.gif

4. Find someone to repair your GPU, then continuing using your build until GPU prices drop, and then build an entire new machine (note that by that time Alder Lake chips should be available in the retail market) icon_idea.gif

i saw meteor lake might be using different slot altogether, do you think its worth it to buy Alder lake when its out end 2021/CES 2022?

or would AM5 be a better option for more years ahead?

Edit : im upgrading from i5-4460 DDR3

Hi I’m looking to get a budget gaming desktop during this wfh time and I wonder is the 1080ti still relevant these day or I should go with rtx 2060 instead ? Their prices are not much of difference. I’m planning to game on a 1440p 144hz display.

I'm running RTX 3080 with 1440p 144hz. No issue so far.

Please also take note about warranty.

If RTX matters, you have to compare RTX games too.
