Looking to upgrade my rig.
Currently

Ryzen 3 1200
Asrock AB350m HDV
Klevv Bolt 8gb 2400Mhz
Gigabyte RX580 8gb

plan to upgrade to Ryzen 5 2600, my concern, if i want to change the RAM to higher speed to 3000Mhz, do i need to change my motherboard.
*
Should not be a problem to support the memory, but you will need to update the bios to support 2600

Hi,

After considering sifu advice last week. I came up with this three option. Which one is the best? Feedback is most welcome. Refer photos attached

For around the same pricing, the 2600 will be best value for sure. Having said that, would prefer higher speed RAM such as 3000 or 3200 MHz rather than 2666, coz Ryzen 2600 can OC well...

Meanwhile, for the i3-8100, can go for 2400 MHz ram coz Intel wont see that much improvement from higher speeds ram like AMD will... And 8100 cannot OC also.

As for the 2200G, no point to pair that with the RX580, IMO. Choosing 2200G, you are literally wasting the APU, compared to 1300x

Hmm... Interesting power supply. Will check it out
https://www.goldfries.com/hardware-reviews/...-supply-review/

Some say it is EVGA's really budget series and not that great quality.

Thanks for the reply. I will do more research on the psu. Do u have any suggestions where a budget psu that have full sleeve cable. The other one that i found is aigo gt500w. My budget for psu is around 200.

For ram, higher clock ram is pretty expensive. Does it really make a significant different when OC? Im willing to used normal hdd instead of ssd and upgrade my ram if i have to.
*
Rather than save on parts and limit your psu budget, save a bit more to be able to allocate around rm 350-400 for a good psu that should last 3-5 years and give you peace of mind.

Higher clocked ram is only about rm 30-50 more for 8gb, unless you want top rated rgb lit ones.

Best power supply reviews comes from Jonnyguru, Anandtech, Techpowerup and Tom's hardware. They test the PSU throughly.

Dont get your hopes high from other PSU reviewers.
*
Those are established ones, but dont forget that they are limited to testing what they can get and use. For example, Superflower silver Eco is not going to be reviewed by them due to voltage requirements. Thus we have to make do with local testing and experiences too.

Hi all sifu,
recently my desktop kinda crazy, always freeze when playing games or watching movie and reboot by itself for many times. sometimes have to take out all the parts and assembly it back in order to get it working again. As this desktop also about 7 years already, i am thinking of either upgrade it or build a new 1. below is my rig spec, can any sifu advice on which part should i upgrade or a new rig is more preferable?

CPU: i7-3770K
CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo
Mobo: Asrock Z77 Extreme 4
PSU: Seasonic G-550
GPU: LeadTex GTX670
HDD: WD Blue 1TB
Ram: Team Elite 4GB 1333 x1, Kingston 4GB 1333 x1
*
If you are thinking of trouble shooting, start a new thread will make tracking responses easier
If you are thinking of changing stuff, then have to change to new stuff, so CPU, motherboard and RAM needs to go.

You should see an improvement over the 6+ years old rigs.

*
Heck no. It is like getting the body of Vin Diesel with the heart of a 65 year old who never worked out and 20kg overweight. Once it goes nuts, your rig might be toast too.

Used all my monthly savings for this card already #feelsbadman now have like RM250 left for PSU only. I watched a youtube vid a pro techie said an evga 400w psu is enough but i cant find one here. Do u reckon a CoolerMaster 450w PSU will be able run it fine as well? The price i saw in lelong is around RM 150+
https://youtu.be/H6RULh1YPLY
*
Save a bit more, it wont be long till you can reach rm260-320 for a decent unit.

If you simply must play games, and at 1080p, just GTX 1060 6gb or rx580 4gb will be ok.

what do you think about patriot burst ssd 120 gb performance? and what do you recommend the cheapest ssd?
*
I am using the 480gb in my gaming rig. Fast bootup for sure, but some stutters at heavy load so I am replacing it with Samsung Evo 860.

Depending on system, intended use and expectations, but it is generally not recommended to go for cheapest SSD, as the better ones with cache can be had for not much more, as compared to like 5 years ago.

I won't recommend getting sizes below 240gb for OS drives, and you definitely need extra storage for all your other stuff. Larger drives are also faster and more lasting. Don't fill up SSD over 80% for optimum speeds and health. Thus for 120 GB you are left with 40-60GB thereabouts, after installing windows 10 and a couple more programs.

Hi all sifu,

Thinking to play back Dota 2 but i am sure my old pc cant handle it now so wondering if its possible to get a upgrade from current spec (image below) or is it better to get a new pc?
user posted image

Screen resolution : 1600x900
Purpose: As long can support Dota 2 playing with medium quality

i am guessing for upgrade i only need a Graphic card and another 4gb of RAM? If that is the case which Graphic card should i get? the cheaper the better.
If its better to get a new pc my budget would be around 2.5k for cpu.

I am not good in pc stuff, so any suggestion or help is very much appreciated. smile.gif

Thanks
*
If you want to upgrade, consider getting a used i5-3470 or 2500k, add 4GB DDR3 and probably a GTX1050 or GTX 1050Ti or RX560, whichever is on offer. DOTA2 will not be that difficult to run.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJGPRJOS9uU

If going new rig, then Ryzen 2400G without discrete graphic card should be ok for DOTA 2 as well. It will cost your more but the new PC will last you longer as well.

and noobie question, the Xeon doesn't have integrated graphics right
*
PCIe GPU has been around for ages. You should just worry about the space inside your case. Huge cards like GTX 1070 Ti and above, or ones with beefy/passive coolers that span 3-4 slots

But since you probably will add basic stuff like GT710 or GT 1030, no worries.

PC Build

1. CPU - AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor = RM655.00
2. CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED Turbo (Red) 66.3 CFM CPU Cooler = RM87.00
3. Motherboard - MSI B450M MORTAR Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard = RM419.00
4. Memory - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory = RM649.00
5. Memory Storage - Crucial - MX500 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive = RM229.00
Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive = RM175.00
6. GPU - GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8 GB Used = RMxxx
7. Case - Tecware Bifrost = RM222.00
8. Power Supply - EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply = RM479.00
9. Wireless Network Adapter - TP-Link Archer T9E PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter = RM190.00
10. Monitor - Samsung C24F390 24.0" 1920x1080 60 Hz Monitor = RM433.00

Total is RM3538.00 excluding GPU. I would preferably have a used 1070 or 1070TI depending on the price.
Please review my selection parts.

My budget is around RM4k - RM4.5k
*
Your total is over RM 3500 already, with less than RM1000 for a GPU. Is it enough for a used GTX1070 or 1070 Ti?
Else consider dropping the CPU cooler, use the included cooler, as well as going for an USB AC1200 Wifi Adapter, I think that would get you an extra RM150-190 for the GPU budget
Good PSU though. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=...Story6&reid=429

780Ti last time can fit
*

Not really. Just GPU less than 30.5cm long. No go for longer ones like Duke 1080 ti (32cm).
Even the Strix 1070Ti would be a tight squeeze to fit in properly though 29.8cm.
The Asus 780Ti DC2OC was merely 28.7cm, so of course less issues.

hello master and sifu.
does a 4GB RX580 and 8GB RX580 have a significant different in performance?
4GB is enough for gaming? recent price drop on amd gpu really tempting.
*
Yes. Newer games like to have more than 4GB VRAM. Especially at higher res.
But if you are ok with tuning down some details and play at 1080p, 4GB is doable

QUOTE(Lineage @ Dec 29 2018, 12:07 PM)
New Ryzen 3000 series is coming soon..is it worth to get Ryzen 2000 series now? Intel CPU price is keep increasing lately..

Looking to build a rig for multimedia usage.

AMD RYZEN 5 2400G
ASUS TUF B450M PLUS GAMING(Choose this motherboard due to Viewnet promo at 469)
KINGSTON D4 PC2666 8GB x 2

If I would like to go for RYZEN 5 2600, what GPU that I can choose to on par or better than RX Vega 11 Graphics(come with 2400G)?

Max budget for these items will be RM2000.
-CPU
-Motherboard
-RAM
-GPU(if go for RYZEN 5 2600)
*
If your budget is RM2000, maybe consider

1) Ryzen 2400G + B350 mobo (~RM 950) *No need GPU
2) G5400 + H310 mobo (~RM590) + GTX 1030 (RM320)

For better performance, can choose
3) i3-8100 + B360 mobo (~RM900) + GPU
4)) Ryzen 2600 + B450 mobo (RM1050) + GPU

Suggested to get GTX1050 Ti (around RM 750-850), then another RM 270-300 for 8GB DDR4-2666

Yes, RX 580 and GTX 1060 trade blows, depending on games optimization and memory usage. Currently RX580 can be had at VERY competitive prices (less than RM950 for 8GB)

C-Zone also selling Pulse-ITX at RM650. Must double check for stock though.

I know from a source, that c-zone doesn't have much of stock for those items.
Can try but if no luck then 1050Ti is decent at that pricing.

My current spec:
i5-4590 3.3
ASUS h97 pro gamer
Avexir 8gb ddr3 1600
ASUS gtx 970 4gb oc
Seasonic x-650
Recently hand itchy, interested to upgrade to RTX2070, is it worth it? Or just upgrade to GTx 1070ti?

Should I buy a whole new set of pc to match the above new gpu or my current spec still can tahan.
*
If you are playing at 1080p, I think you won't see much difference in games that doesn't use RTX. The 970 is pretty respectable, so you would probably do better planning for full system upgrade in another 8 months (expecting support for zen 3000+ to mature)

You can see the specs discussed there. Ultra is very taxing indeed. New system needed.
