I think they will prefer sharing with fewer people rather than getting it from you who let so many people to share. If one person download BT or emule. Then the connection will be very slow.

Doesnt your hostel provide own connection? Or do u mean u rent a house and shared with other students? and u applying streamyx?
That u can...just get a wireless router with QnS and everybody share the stremyx bill and bandwitdh

QUOTE(bornd @ Mar 3 2007, 11:38 AM) yap.. it has own connection.. but the signal is really bad... owh.. ok.. how much does it cost? Wireless router (with QnS) only costs around RM200... And then u might want to add AP (Access Point) if the user is far.like 6-7 rooms apart.

I guess around RM700 exclude streamyx. No requirement for pc.. Your "connection" should still be ON no concern about pc status.

maybe you are interested in my solution.
1. Linksys wrt54gl + dd-wrt 2. -8dBi omni high gain antenna 3. streamyx line
optional 4. m0n0wall for captive portal (so that your client will be redirecting to your login page- enter username password, before get access to use the internet). this required a pc (penII will do fine) with 2 NIC and 128mb ram.
***************************************************
wacky = wireless router can support up to 254 users...

QUOTE(WaCKy-Angel @ Mar 3 2007, 12:27 PM) Oh btw..usually wifi router allows upto 4 connection rite? So AP is required for more connection, am i right? No. If there is a connection limit it would be much higher than 4. Normally in the hundreds. Of course with hundreds of people using the link at the same time it will be too slow to use. You might wish it only allowed 4.
