i need to make some video editing (e.g. cutting segments) of movies that have been converted from vcd to divx. can anyone help me with any good program to go doing such editing? or how i can do it (i.e. do i have to convert to other fiile format first?)?

windows has a software that does this....i cant find it in my win home edition...

U can use many freeware and shareware software for file encoding and conversions.
I personally use Sorenson Video and Canopus Procoder.

For editing i recommend Sony Video Vegas which is suitable to beginner and advanced users.

If you really want to adventure out there, you can always try Adobe Aftereffects as well. If you want an easy program, Ulead Videostudio is also useful.

I second using Canopus Procoder. Though sometimes the video conversion from 1 format to another can take a considerable amount of time to complete depending on which video format you're converting to & how long is the video clip you're converting.
