Does anybody have suggestions as to where can I find legacy lenses? Back in the States, these were easily available in thrift stores and online.

I'm looking for a Minolta 50mm f1.4, but wouldn't mind looking at other options if available.

there is one person in the states,

http://stores.ebay.com/leehaze/

but shipping costs almost as much as the item itself.

i too am looking for some vintage lenses, that are dirt cheap,
apparently its really hard to find, because all modern lenses are at 300 bucks lowest, and mostly like kit lens quality.

you should be able to get minolta md 50mm f/1.4 plus shipping from ebay for around RM300-400.

konica hexanon and minolta md is my top two choice of legacy lens makers

What about physical stores? Are there any around? I'm in the Klang Valley, but wouldn't mind making a trip to other states just to pay a visit.

Well I did read that the legacy 50s are comparable. Guess I'll just check out some other alternatives then.

Thanks for the website. I did a search but it seems the Minolta 50mm lenses are all 1.7. sad.gif

Ebay are your best bet
You should be able to find plenty of Minolta from Japan seller.

Are you looking for MC/MD or A-mount minolta?

Why not?

Personally I've purchase via eBay for vintage lens. Some came from Japan, some came from Germany and some from Ukraine.
So far, I'm quite happy with my purchase. Read the description, read their feedback and ask a lot of question to be sure of what you're getting.
One thing I'm sure is, the Japanese really take good care of their stuff. Bought a Canon nFD 50mm f1.4 from Japan last year, the lens came in an immaculate condition, even better than I expected.
The only downside is shipping might take a while, usually 2 weeks. And also our weak currency cry.gif

Precisely because of our weak currency. And I'm just about to start my first job, so... don't think I'll have any significant extra cash for some time.

But I'll keep in mind what you said about the Japanese.

To be honest, sometimes it's still cheaper to buy it off eBay due to markup by local seller...be patient, keep browsing and you'll eventually find yourself a good deal

If you think you're good at tinkering stuff, look for those with slight problem such as dust, minor fungus, sticky/oily aperture blade etc...those can be very cheap
If it is a popular lens, you'll be able to find a lot of disassembly guide (example here) out there to help clean things up and restore it to nice working condition
Google on that particular lenses that you are interested before you buy, see what others say.

Okay, that's something that I didn't know. Was hoping to find a bargain somewhere in the corner of a store. But yeah, I don't need it right away so I can just hang around.

lol I think I'll give that a pass. Wouldn't mind to pay a little extra to save that work.

Thanks but no thanks. Got a ways to go before I can actually spare some cash for my hobbies.
