p/s on the side note my car's exhaust sounded like a metal clunking inside it...went to sc for inspection n sc confirmed that my car is the first case..now will wait for hq to approve and change the whole exhaust assembly
interesting find. my manual proton saga vvt is having this rattling/pinging sound and I am not sure if it is coming from my engine due to pre-detonation or exhaust system somewhere loose (heat shield) or your issue.
I m having this issue also, crackling sound when i accelerate. maybe loose bolt on the exhaust drum. Have no time to go SC for checking
Hi, will be great if you can record it as I am trying to diagnose my rattling noise when accelerating as well. Really unsure is it due to engine pre-detonation or from exhaust system :/
Hello Everyone, I too an owner of a new persona STD CVT since late last year. Just wanted to ask the forum about few things i've experienced with this car. (Btw, this is my first Proton car)
1. The OEM wiper blades become very noisy and skips/jerks when in relatively moderate rain. The funny thing is this happens only after like 15-20 wipes and become worse on every wipe until i get too annoyed and turn it off. I've told this to the service center few times and they attended my query (cleaned widescreen/Wiper blades, etc) but the issue is still there. I'm thinking to change the blades to another brand (Eg:Bosch) myself but unfortunately i could not find the right fit so far. (I looked in Lazada and other online sellers) Eg : http://www.lazada.com.my/bosch-clear-advan...338.html?rb=647 They only have the U-Hook Type, which i don't know if it matched this car. Appreciate if anyone can help me to find.
2. Not sure if this is an issue or anyone else has has faced it, the Cooling FAN of this car runs more frequently, ( it just stops for only for 3-5 seconds before starts again) when the Air-cond is running. This with no matter what setting i set at any time of the day. anyone has any thoughts about this ?
3. Since few weeks ago, I start to hear a light to moderate engine pinging/knocking sounds (tappet sound..???), specially when climb up a steep climb (Eg: climb up the ram between multi-story Parking lots. I reported this to the service center (@PROTON Centre of Excellence) and they replaced the knock sensor too. But so far the issue is still there. I tried different petrol brands as well as RON97 as a test, but no luck so far. I'm thinking if I'd to live with this if this is not gonna be an issue later. anyone else faced this issue before me?
Anyone can help me with any comments would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Hi. I am user of saga vvt manual. I have your issue number 3. Is the sound you're experiencing something like this?
I have made appointment with Proton CoSE regarding this issue. I am disheartened to hear that they replaced your knock sensor (how long did they take to replace it?) and still your problem persists as I fear the same would happen to my saga . I have considered trying ron97 but now with your statement seems like ron97 does not solve the case.
But I am still hoping that this rattling issue is due to exhaust manifold/shield that is loose or having leak. As there was once when I am cruising at moderate highways speeds, there is a boom-my exhaust note being heard that can possibly indicate an exhaust leak.
Kindly refer this video where a fellow youtuber experiencing similar rattle noise but got it fixed by tightening his exhaust shield.
I am really determined to solve this issue, as this is a freaking new car! My mums saga aeroback has this issue after 12 years! And this within 2 months or so.
Talking about this Pinging sound, last time I thought is my illusion or Radio... the sound was very light... but today I try again during uphill, the pinging sound doesn't appear
For your mum Saga Aeroback, the pinging can be solved be retarding the distributors... can ask those experienced foreman to help. Its just loosen up the screw at the distributor and turn it I think towards the engine? If unsure better let the foreman do it
My mum saga aeroback pinging is solved and yes due to distributor.
But this new persona/saga vvt does not have a distributor so the problem is somewhere else. I have a strong gut feeling it's the exhaust system as when my engine is cold, performance is super snappy and no pinging whatsoever. Response is amazing.
But when temp gets hot/operating temperature, car feels dragged. And pinging occurs more often.
Also regarding you changing the stop lamp switch. May I know where you did it and whom I can refer too?
Another issue I'm facing is that when air con compressor kicks in. You can really feel it's load on the engine by cutting 500rpm. I'm in gear 3 and I can still feels it's drag.
this is what i told the staff at the SC counter .. dont know they understand or not .. if normal workshop of course they know .. because SC we cant afford to wait and speak with the pomen .. will test my car tomorrow either the problem solve or not .. SC inform not because of the distributor but rattling inside the dashboard ..
I don't think our campro vvt engine is utilizing distributors anymore as it is fuel injected. Distributors is for those carbureted engines.
The compressor proton used in saga/persona is too strong. As a manual user I can really feel the jerk when the compressor activates. As long as you're below 2.5k rpm when that thing turns on, it's like your car braked for a split second.
Best experience driving my car is in the cold hours in the morning with air cond off. Oh my God, the performance is soooooooooo gooooooddddd. Pickup
In the afternoon though..

Not sure which is more fascinating... Aircond compressor that's too small to generate enough power to cool off the cabin during hot day Or Powerful Aircond that can cool off the cabin during hot day but will lose a bit of power while air cond kick in
I prefer the 2nd choice thou... the old days in Myvi especially traffic is slow below 40km/h, you'll feel dizzy due to the heat
More of give and take in this case. I do appreciate the cool air con in the hot afternoon. Couple of minutes and the cabin is comfortable haha.
Yeah bro! Me too got snake inside It's actually more like someone is breathing deeply inside the zircon vent u know? Anyone has found solution for that?
No solution. It is meant to be that way. When it's hissing it is when your compressor is working.
Mine (STD - CVT ) only 5K ++ KM mileage, still has the engine knocking during acceleration and climbing up a ramp. Service Center already checked and attended twice but no results. I'm already running on RON97 for few weeks now as per their advice but nothing seems to be working. now waiting for a loner car from them so that they can allow them to keep my car for few days for further inspections. Hope this is not another excuse to pass some time. Service Center is their HQ. (COE)
I went Proton CoSE in Subang Jaya complain similar issue for my saga vvt. They say its normal. GG WP. The main branch already say like this I also duno who else to ask help from anymore...
How serious is ur engine knocking? my persona engine noise is like abit choppy but its not really noticeable to a point where i think its abnormal. its like gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr but in a smooth way, its just that the noise is abit choppy. how does urs sound like? So far my engine no problem.
Engine no problem. runs like it should. just no idea this rattling coming from engine or other parts.
Maybe I'm lugging the engine? I can eliminate this problem if I always rev my car more than 2.5k and shift @ 3.5k. Vroom Vroom.
From the video I'm on a hill in gear 2. Revs are below 2k when I begin to accelerate.

Anyone got extra Trapo floor mat go let go? Please let me know ya tq
At first I really wanted the Trapo but due to budget concerns I get a normal car carpet with sidewalls instead. Installed it with some carpet clips and its just as nice. Maybe loses out on looks but it's functionality is much better.
Able to contain the dirt way better due to larger and having sidewalls. Trapo does not have side walls and is larger albeit than the original fabric car mats. And thus, dirt will still fall underneath it more easier as compared to the Mr diy larger carpet with sidewall.
Maybe later when I'm free I take some picture of my setup.
