hi guys,

i'm deciding between 2 boxes, Alfawise H96Pro+ or the MeCool M8S Pro.

both having S912, and 3gb RAM.
H96Pro+ has 16gb more ROM than M8S.
performance area rather similar.

any advice? which manufacturer is better? how about firmware update releases?
well review from FreakTab users does say H96Pro+ running quite hot, until many decided to mod the casing with fans and vents to allow more air flow.
not many reviews on the M8S though.

GT1 Ulti was one of the choices until i saw the benchmark scores as well as A1 SD test scores. the other 2 boxes perform much better than it. does Beelink offer frequent updates?

i do prefer bigger ROM but if it comes with problems, then...nahhhh

Hi, IMO.. I'd pick the Alfawise H96Pro+.. Use it for a bit and if the heat worries you, get a cheap laptop cooler to help.
*
ya i was thinking of that too, and coincidentally i have 1 lying around laugh.gif
but why the Alfawise?

spec look identical but wifi/rom speed difference go for alfawise (new firmware for android 7)

got 3rd party rom
*
but does the new firmware solves the issue of wifi dropping out that happens with 6.0.1?

and there are so many versions of the box. some DDR3, some DDR4.
FT's superceleron also have many versions of ROM for the different versions.
but this one (FT link) seems interesting brows.gif

Check this out. U less the risk of getting a defective product but add monehhh. Hehe. http://www.mudah.my/H96+PRO+3G+32G+android...ox-49036211.htm

I saw some user's review from Lazada for budget box and some complaint it cant be power on after few days. Idk if its the user issue or its really hardware issue. Damn nightmare.

i got the box for less than RM300 from GearBest months ago. Yes, shipped from China. Comes with Android Nougat.

GB is selling the Alfawise version of H96Pro+. Should be the same with the non branded H96Pro+. Can head over to FreakTab to have a read on the reviews there. Quite a big community, and they have their own Kodi fork: FTMC. Got custom firmware as well.

How is the performance of your Alfawise H96 Pro+? Video support HDR10? Can play Dolby Vision file? Kodi support? I'm more concern about HD audio support, can passthrough DTS-HD, DTS-HD MA and Dolby True-HD 5.1 channels or not?
Ship from oversea normally is without warranty and this will be clearly stated in Lazada as well. However, if the box is faulty when you received it, you can always return to Lazada for full refund.

sorry because i don't use all that. I only use for normal Kodi streaming. Bought it due to it's RAM, and storage size and speed. I use BT headphones most of the time. Good enough for me. smile.gif

H96Pro+ also a box without external wifi antenna. Any issue with the wifi connection ?
*
i'm using LAN because my router is just beside the box. user reviews does say that the wifi will disconnect by itself. never experienced it during my testing of streaming about 30min.

i remember seeing a guide on FreakTab forum to kind of "modify" the internal wifi antenna for better reception. it still sits inside the box. plenty of mod guides, and ideas to decrease the temp too. smile.gif

Can help to do some tests or not? Just download some test/demo files (with HDR video and HD audio) from internet and play it via USB port. H96 Pro+ price is really attractive. Not concern about wifi connection as LAN is the best option.

can. let me know which file u want me to test better. for the passthrough, any configuration needed? kasi pm if want smile.gif

All these fans are blowing INTO the case which might cause more dust buildup inside, and after a long time, might cause overheating too. Advised to draw hot air out instead of blowing in.

Anyways, that was what I read about router. Not sure the author was talking c0ck or not as I have no way to prove it laugh.gif. But I did put a cheapo laptop cooler on top of my router and modem, and the temperatures are cooler to the touch of hand.

I feel the placement of the fan will also need to depend on how the PCB is placed inside the box, and the direction of ventilation holes. Like my box, PCB is facing top, and ventilation holes are the bottom only. Placing a fan at the bottom might not help much if the cool air couldn't reach the top of PCB. So if the box has ventilation ducts at the side, and PCB facing top, might be wise to direct cool air to enter from the side instead of bottom.

I've also seen some guys change to a beefier heatsink. Some also cut some holes at the top of the box and attach a fan drawing air out from the box. I wonder what they do on their box that needs such cooling solution sweat.gif
