hope no dark screen bug sweat.gif

Bought the mini m8s pro 2 months back. The box is fast but can get very hot running Kodi...registering 75c with CPU Temp app. The stock Marshmallow it came with is good but sometimes freeze when switching on WiFi... don't know if this only on my box.

I'm modifying the box for more ventilation. I believe with the amount of heat generated, the box won't last very long.
And for the dark screen, it's still there unfortunately (for the stock fw). Currently I'm using Beelink GT1 Rom from Alvatech of Freaktab Here. I'm experiencing no freezing so far with it...and the good part is darkscrern is fixed with this rom.

my previous unit S905 no issue sweat.gif
wow...i saw the internal part i thought the heatsink sufficient to tame the S912 but according to your review I think the old T95 Max seems like a safer bet.

mini m8s pro now got android 7.1.2 firmware

Yeah, regarding the heatsink I thought so too. But seems like it's still not suppressing the heat well. Maybe 75c is normal for current standard of cpu/SoC but I just don't feel comfortable with it haha...hence the modification.

I've tried the official update android 7.1.2, yup...no issue on dark screen anymore but the absence of navigation and notification bars is really a turn off for me. Maybe they will bring back the bars on their next update (if there's any at all). For the time being, have to stick to Alvatech's.

no, i don't own this box...i just saw this on 4pda forum while looking info for my box.

even the wifi doesn't work with this firmware but i think can fix with adding this laugh.gif

i think this ported minix firmware worth to try, worst comes to worst if anything goes wrong, there is still original firmware to flash with usb burning tool right? (of course there is still risk in all flashing tongue.gif)
when a box is fun to play with, the manufacturer make a cut cost version. just beware there is difference between mini m8s pro vs mini m8s pro "C". the latter comes with 100mbps ethernet while the former original comes with gigabit ethernet.

No wonder I failed to find the page by googling.... it's in Russian haha.

So okie just a very short review...out of curiosity I flashed my box with the firmware. All went smooth. Tested it for a day when i noticed something like graphical glitch...then green and pink colours started flashing. Got it rid by changing the default resolution 1080p 60hz to 1080p 50hz.

The Minix boot logo (the very 1st logo MINIX with that Android guy) always distorted...very paint to the eyes even though it only lasts a few seconds on display haha...got it rid by re-flasing (God, I just love looking at the progress bar on that Amlogic burning sw lol)

Function-wise, I got it working just like previous fw (was on Beelink GT1 by Alvatech's )...only this time without WiFi functionality. Bluetooth working great and so did the stock IR remote controller (use for the sake of testing only).

And then the only delightful and noticeable difference I can say...
...the box is now capable of running Njoi Now and Astro Go apps. Given the fact that MINIXs are sold unrooted, this is expected. Not so lucky for hypptv everywhere though...still with 111 error.
Those notorious trio apps were installed straight from play store, so I can confirm they're latest. Next, if got time, I'll get my hands on other hypptv app version to test further....

So that's it and thanks a bunch for forummer botak_wai on the Russian info heheh. Think I'm gonna stay on this firmware for now...and see whether I can beat that ugly hypptv everywhere hahaha!!!

Okie2....some addition!! Pls don't ask me about sound...hd sound...5.1 pass thru or whatever sounds haha as I'm not into that...just a casual user here with TV, HDMI cable and box ; )

wow...if minix neo u9 gets nougat update and also if those bunch russian ppl able to perfect port the firmware to mini m8s pro, then this is basically a gem box laugh.gif

i think there are some other boxes get ported to minix neo u9 firmware too...cant remember which, i think freaktab or 4pda sure have discussion about it.

After some good read from that 4pda forum I decided to flash again my box but this time with Ugoos m3 firmware. They have a very good discussions and recommendation of this box being paired with Ugoos m3 fw.
Here's one comprehensive and detail review of Mini m8s Pro...i found the link somewhere from the thread.

Now I got all three Njoi Now, Astro Go and Hypptv everywhere working hahaha.
Good and clean firmware from Ugoos I might say. No driver problem this time and as praised by some in that 4pda thread, this fw is considered the best-match for mini m8s's hardware.
And from my experience, it's like straight drop-in replacement though.

The most welcomed feature of the fw is "Ugoos hw settings" where you can enable in-built hardware monitor like CPU Temp and network activity. So now I have 2 less apps to install huhuhu.

I was actually planning to flash the previous minix fw with magisk in my effort to try my luck with hypptv everywhere and now it's working on this Ugoos....very nice indeed!!!

...only thing is hypptv only works on WiFi. Once switched to ethernet, the circle keep on spinning. But I don't mind that since the box just sit next to router all the time.

Thanks to that Yuri guy by the way...I can now have some good rest for awhile...

Just curious. How are you able to match the mini m8s hardware with the Ugoos m3 fw ?

Is it mentioned in the 4pda website that this firmware works for mini m8s ?

My experience is that most boxes are very very vague, most of the time, within one model of box, there could be a few different circuit boards. So you match it by opening the box itself ?
*
No lah, I didn't do that matching stuff. It was forummer Botak_WAI who provided the link to that Russian page.
It's actually their Mini m8s pro discussion thread. You can see their list of ported FW to fit on this box.

I only interested in trying Minix U9H and Ugoos since from the info, all other fw are pre-rooted.
They even claimed the hardware similarities between mini m8s and Beelink GT1/Ultimate or Alfawise S92.
So I guess those with mentioned boxes may have luck trying.

Try take sometime reading their discussion...a lot more info for you there perhaps brows.gif .
Just bear with the english though since you'll be reading on google-translated pages sweat.gif

The thing is that sometimes within the same brand same model, they have different boards and require different ROMs. I guess you are fortunate to have mini m8s where there is only one variant out from the model.

So the one you used and got it working is an Android 7 ROM ?
*
Yeah... couldn't agree more with you in this matter. Buying cheap boxes is like game of luck...once ordered, you keep your fingers crossed wait till the box reaches you and hope for the best.
I see that this mini m8s box came from the very same company that produces Beelink that is Netxeon. Not sure if this means anything of the quality between both boxes haha.

The Ugoos m3 was on Marshmallow FYI.

bro, which firmware u tried?
the ugoos 1.1.4 or the 2.0.1?
*
Yup as pointed out by Pucongite...I'm on 1.1.4.
Don't think like flashing their 2.0.1 yet...1.1.4 is the best from my experience (that is if you on mini m8s pro )... don't know for other boxes.

Anyone here used a MX3 air mouse before ?

Thinking of getting one. As the RII mini keyboards are not able to fully power off the TV and tv box, whereas the MX3 air mouse has IR learning capability and thus is able to power off/on both the TV and the tv box.
*
I don't know if I even have mx3 air mouse. But quick look at pakcik Google, the design exactly like mine haha. Last time bought at AliExpress I didn't notice it has any mx3 wording at all.

Sooo, my experience with this i-don't-know-which-generic-clone-dupe-device-i-have of mine, hmmm...functioning good after 3 months (hopefully still beyond its 6th hehh). Only regret it couldn't learn my Panasonic tv remote control. No problem learning mini m8s pro remote though.

Maybe the Pana controller signal patterns are too much for its mx3 brain...or admitted, I got the faulty one, haizzz!!!
