Hi all, I'm new to these Android tv boxes. Have read page 1 and some of the recent pages, but a few things still not very clear (will ask below).
I'm thinking of getting a box around the 300+ price range, like TX9 PRO or T95Z Plus.
Here are some questions:
1. As I know, what you can watch or do on the box depends on the apps installed right?
2. Most of the boxes have some pre-installed apps like: YouTube, Google Play Store, Kodi 17.6, Iflix, NetFlix, Terrarium TV, Newest Movie HD, Megabox, Popcorn Time, etc. etc. Are the content on these apps free or must pay?
3. Can I watch live sports or news from the above installed apps? Or I have to install new apps? When you guys write about AOTG or Unifi, these are additional apps right?
4. Claims by some sellers of free channels, watch everything etc. This means those people have installed some ahem apps that have illegal channels right?
5. To navigate the tv box easier I should get an air mouse or keyboard?
6. What extras do I get if choose to up budget and get something like the Minix U9-H? Worth the extra money?
Thanks all.

Thanks voncrane.
1. Yes.. This has been repeated so many times already.. I really have no idea how else to explain it. I thought so, just needed some confirmation.
2. Some.. Not most. Typically what happens is that the seller is the one that pre-installs apps on the box. The average box manufacturer doesn't care for such. Exceptions would be in the case of say Evpad boxes cuz they be selling services too.
3. No! Install yours. Any recommended apps to watch sports and news?
4. Yes! See 2 above.
5. Subjective. I prefer an airmouse but that's cuz I've got a good one. Not all airmouses are created equal. I suppose the different airmouse are going to be compatible right? Which airmouse do u have?
6. IMO..YES! But really depends on your needs. If a cheaper box can.. By all means get one. But if can, I always spring for a decent box from Minix. They know their stuff and it's compatible with AOTG & Unifi TV.. No fuss. Good to know Minix is compatible with AOTG & Unifi TV. To use AOTG must have an existing Astro account? Or can just pay to subscribe to AOTG?

QUOTE(voncrane @ Jul 3 2018, 09:19 PM) I've been using the Minix Neo A2 Lite airmouse. If getting the Neo U9-H, then get the updated Neo A3 Airmouse too. If you won't be doing any 4K and or plus hdr at all, then Minix Neo U1 is still okay, except not as future proof in terms of updates and you might upgrade your AV equipment. As for what apps to install for sports and news..live TV.. Best to search this thread for earlier suggestions or Google.. You'll find a few for sure. Alternatively, there are premium services to.. My advice, go for monthly subs, rather than those one-time lifetime subscription model. Doesn't mean they don't work, but I've had better experience with good monthly payment ones. Plus, they usually cost around $4 - $10 per month and come with other perks like EPG and VOD..Again Google. Sorry, can't discuss such here and don't kindly don't pm for such.. It's still ehem stuff. So.. AOTG got free and premium content. Usually, people borrow or copay for their family's or friend's login details. I'm unsure if one can simply get premium without being a proper subscriber. You'd have to wait on others or check with Asterruk about that. Edit.. There's also the Mecool M8S Pro L 3GB 32GB box.. Seems alright to me and is cheaper than the Minix Neo U9-H. Though requires some legwork to make it great. If interested, make sure to get the one with the voice remote. It's probably a different firmware that's more compatible with AOTG.. This is hit and miss.. Go with Minix if you don't want the hassle. Thanks again.
