For that price range.. Mecool is alright.. KM9 or KM3 will do.... Once arrived just factory reset and update to latest firmware. "TV boxes" is not a mobile phone. They don't typically build or ship with Sim card slot abilities.. Get a phone and hdmi cable if that's important to you. Though I guarantee you that no RM300 or even RM400 phone will be as versatile as their box equivalent.

Hi.. Amongst the above.. My recommendation would be the Mecool KM3 with UK plug. This is the 128GB version and I chose this over the 64GB version, cuz it's an extra $10 for double the internal hard disk size. Which will come in handy if you game a lot and buffer big size files, etc.. The KM3 is also the better buy, thanks in part to its Amlogic S905X2 CPU and 4GB DDR4 RAM.

As for why there are different plugs. It's due to the various country standards. We (Malaysia) follow the UK plug format as default. So to avoid needing and extra adapter (if other countries plugs) here, just choose the UK plug variant.


Lastly, warranty..... I checked the page and couldn't find where it states available warranty. Try not to read much into that especially since you purchasing from the official seller and will have to ship overseas if anything happens within the period. If it's important to you? Then I suggest you buy local and from a seller who'll handle such for you. Albeit, it'll be slightly more expensive.. Seller gotta eat.  .. Either way, Mecool is a decent manufacturer and you won't go wrong (much) with the KM3.

Yes, most boxes running regular Android OS will allows you to easily install a third-party launcher such as Nova or ATV, etc.. It's just a matter of compatibility upon launch and how stable it is as default.

Like I always tell.. Don't go buying these stuff for "elderly" people.. If anyone has concerns about them using it properly? get them a truly smart TV and or an Astro sub with decoder. They'll thank you for it. This cord cutter's path is NOT for the physically or technologically challenged. People already live dunno how long, least we can do is to not over-complicate the rest of their lives. The easiest YouTube-wise is a Samsung/LG TV with YouTube app.. There's also Netflix.. Also, there are huge (depending on screen size) buttons distinctly showing the FF/RW/Play/Pause/Next/Back, etc buttons on the screen. All these are remote friendly. So directional arrows will work smoothly.  There's nothing to "click & drag". Similarly with the YouTube/Netflix app on ATV OS.. Matter of fact, the entire ATV OS is designed to be directional arrows friendly. It's when one installs an incompatible (regular android OS) app, that the whole click and drag to simulate touchscreen is an issue. Else... It's not...

As for storage.. IIRC.. The Minix Neo U1, with stock fw should give around 8GB free from the 16GB eMMC ROM. Kodi can run up to 1GB and more over time, YouTube (ATV version) and the rest will take up a couple hundred MBs too. If you plan on mostly streaming content using the cache/buffer style system.. The remaining storage won't be an issue. However, should you be doing the download first and complete before or during playback? And it's a file that's larger than the 5-6GB ish storage left? That file won't run. I'm talking p2p stuffs here.

As for price... I honestly can't go hunting around for the best deal for you.. So buy from a reputable source.. where ever that may be.. There are plenty reputable sellers and online platforms out there. Just choose one. Most often than not, there's no warranty on such devices. Especially if you are looking to buy for cheap.. Why? Warranty costs extra..There's stress and real money cost involved in claiming the warranty from the manufacturer in China, USA, etc.. All this seller has to consider before putting up selling price.

Do you mean a powered HD hub with a 2.5" SSD and or powered/non-powered normal ext HDs? Most boxes should be able to handle such.. Just depends on the device itself's USB port has enough power to drive the HD or not.

Maxieos.. There you have it. Get a later model like the KM9 Pro.. ATV OS as stock with voice remote... Unless you still want to wait on the Beelink GT1 Mini-2 Android TV Box with new S905X3 SoC. The latter is more expensive though.

You will need to have at least one launcher. You can have mulitiple launchers. If you don't like the current launcher, you could install and check if other launcher works.
This is usually configurable, to go to sleep or to go to shutdown. And firmware specific.
This case to case depends on the apps you installed. Some apps the ads go away if you pay. If you are rooted, you can try 'Adaway' to remove ads, but it is not 100% effective.
Depends on the boxes you bought. Some boxes cannot be rooted. Some boxes are rooted by default.

There is something called default launcher. When you have multiple launchers and no default, when you press home button, android will prompt you to pick one launcher to run. When a default is set, then no more prompting. You can also clear the default.

Not all launchers will run, many firmware have limited platform libraries installed, so only limited number of launchers can run well.

So behaviour is depending on box A to box B.
Nothing specific can be mentioned if no brand is mentioned as all these are mostly varies from one box to another.

Please take some time to read page one completely and understand it.. Then read the last 20 or so pages to get familiar. Most of the "Issues" you are encountering are primarily cuz you went to view some dunno what boxes... A good box will handle all these "issues".. Pls don't ask me which is a good box just yet..Got a few and dependent on few factors.. Do some reading first.. No extreme spoon-feeding. Return when you are wiser.. Sure entertain properly. 

Because nobody worries about it. They think the built in house keeping mechanism of android is good enough.

But hey if you are so worried, you can install additional apps to do it.
