HDMI audio better than SPDIF?  Google and get my answer.
However too bad my old audio system only can support SPDIF and not HDMI

Q10 Pro still one of my top list smile.gif  Just thinking what would be the better option than Q10 Pro
*
Not to worry.. Can be incentive to get a proper and better AVR setup.. If required and budgeting allows. Else, the likes of DD audio is quite fine for some. smile.gif My system maxes out at DTS HD-MA. So I too can't take advantage of the better audio out there like Atmos or TrueHD, etc..

If you don't mind just using usb connection for that hard drive.. The Minix Neo U9-H and the latest Mecool KM9 are good contenders. Though, I would go with the former than the latter.... Unless they push out fw updates that fixes a couple bugs..do check out our previous discussions on it in the last few pages.. Minix and HiMedia devices are generally very stable devices. They advertise only what they can do and stick to doing them really well.

Has anyone tried out the latest Mecool M8s PRO LB Tv Stock nexus rom?

When I bought this device for less than 250 on Laz, thought there was no more hope for customising the rom, by default is a good spec of box, but because of the stock Mecool interface and UI, is really bland.

Lo and behold, just a few days ago was simply googling for it again, and finally this guy Magendaz has finally released for the LB version which was also notoriously famous for its Bluetooth and WiFi issues when flashed with another non LB firmwares.

It was really fairly easy to install, just download the OTA update and save it on my USB and then proceeded to using the OTA function in the stock firmware. Just needed one more factory reset to remove the pesky auto-reboot when you're on the new firmware.

All is fine now, smoother and more pleasant looking Android OS UI.

But the MIRACAST function sucks big time, still lagging and the audio is being delayed.

Nice.. Finally some good love for that variant. If I may ask, does Asterruk Go app work fine on this ROM? How about UnifiTV app too? Thanks.

Nope, I did not have the chance to test out A or UnifiTV app as I do not subscribe to anymore of their packages. While for the UnifiTV, I have the STB. Don't want to overload the tv box full of apps. Although there are still a lot of space given that I have only a few basics like Kodi and stuffs.

Oh I see.. Possible to install and test? You can uninstall later sweat.gif... I'd like to know if they work before flashing it over the stock ROM for a pal. Otherwise, the ROM's smooth so far? Kodi, ehem apps, 4K playback etc?..

No lah.. Not mine.. Still rocking the Neo U1.. No reason to upgrade as yet cuz still using same equipment sweat.gif ... It's really for a pal and it's HW version is the "controversial" LB variant.

I tried sideloading the UnifiTV apks, both phone and tablet version, can login, but when you want to play, it keeps show DEVICE ERROR. I don't have any AstroGo account. So I assume is not working as well.

Rom is definitely smooth and stable, kodi and others are working fine. 4k not quite, tested out with the built in youtube app, kodi app, the 4k seems to be stuttering after a while playback. I guess the device is not really that strong, but other than that is all fine. I didn't try by playing through files though. But I believe is the same.

There are pictures here, but I suggest you flash it over through OTA update, and factory reset once more to eliminate the autoreboot. Also the firmware is PRE ROOTED with TWRP as well. Beware.

Well for now it does perform the basics like youtube, kodi and basic stuffs for viewing. But is a bit disappointing at 4k and above. But I hardly watch the TV nowadays, this tv box was for my parents to watch their dramas and stuffs.

I've only decided to get rid of the Mecool stock rom is because I find it not aesthetically pleasing to the eyes in terms of UI.

Tried some gaming via 'steam link' app and my minix u1
All connected via gigabit lan

Smooth playback. But noticeable input lag for fighting games.

Ah, I see.. During my testing, I believe the stock ROM handled some 4K files well. If not better than my Minix Neo U1, If I recall correctly.. Since my pal hasn't complained and or has no issues with the current launcher, etc.. He rarely watches 4K files even.. So, best to leave what isn't broken alone.. smile.gif.. but good option for those who'd prefer the custom ROM. Hopefully, the chef will release an update squashing some more bugs.

Perhaps.. You could list the game titles that played smooth and ones that didn't? notworthy.gif

for the same reason, I just go mibox, for it to works~ just need:
- wifi
- HDMI

daily app:
- netflix
- kodi
- one of those IPTV app
- side load some android app like firefox, Hyptv and fm apps.

if your usage is as narrow as me.

Anything more powerful that mibox should work better.

Which version of Mi Box are u using. Is Netflix 1080 content playable on Mi Box?

Yes it is. This is one of the plus points of the MiBox, it's a verified/certified Google Android TV OS device. So Netflix has no blocks on it.
