Android O... Very nice UI

*
yep.. Looks nice.. Watched it and it was mostly about UI improvements, IOT devices integration, recommendations (AI powered for sure.).. They showed it running on the Nvidia Shield and with Google Assistant & Voice commands. IMO, they be polishing the OS and making it more capable in the back-end. Looking good.. smile.gif

How come M8S Pro not in the list? I've one running nicely

Hey, How's yours so far? Any new noteworthy bugs or annoyances?

so if its not official certified.. are there any major problem? planning to get a MX10 android box..

You could do us a favour and get it.. Use it awhile and drop a review. notworthy.gif .. Though based on my brief research, it's an okay box if only normal 1080p files will be played. An awful player where 4K videos are concerned.. Loses out to the much older Minix Neo U1 or HiMedia Q10 Pro in that department.. Basically proof that having the latest processors, 4GB RAM, 32GB ROM, and Android OS isn't what one should be aiming for.. But instead real world performance. It's a sub RM300 box and so kinda expected. Perhaps it might far better with better custom firmware if compatible.

youtube is build by google for lg n ss.
even lg n ss still support their own os, but stopped support for older tv.
google is not responsible for the app future update.

tat y manufacturer update is more important than google certification.
*
True on TV manufacturers ditching software updates for older models. Can't remember the last firmware update I got on mine and its only a couple years old. But realistically, OSes such as SmartHub, Tizen or LG's WebOS aren't meant for frequent updates but rather for stability. Once they get that stable firmware on it. Best to leave as is, lest they try to intro something else and break core features. Apps do auto-update though cuz mine still gets YouTube and Netflix app updates.

The people have decided and we should respect their decision, with a 2/3 majority win. I hereby announced this thread will now start accepting discussion for boxes from other OS-es as well.

dwRK, please take note of this for your thread building.

The poll is officially closed.

The M8S Pro L box is working very well and the game pad g4s works flawlessly with Asphalt according to my kid. He's using the box most of the time at night. Everything this is much faster and smooth. The voice remote is damn useful

Except without passthru and not so good wifi connection if the box is like 20-30 meters away from router.

Am keeping it for now.

Nice... Need another favor.. Last you mentioned haven't tested AOTG and Unifi PlayTV on it. Could you please do so and report if their latest versions work.. Thanks. I've got a buddy who wants something decent and cheap.. This seems sufficient.. Especially as he's got no interest in extra audio equipment beyond awful TV's speakers.. So the absence of passthrough is negligible.

Edit: Also how cool does it feel after say a day's usage and or standby for a couple?

Like others already said.. If willing to spend RM500, better to just topup a bit and get the Minix Neo U9-H instead.. Else, drop down to lower priced boxes.. I'm currently surveying for a pal and pitting the Mecool M8S Pro L versus the Beelink GS1 6K... Both boxes come pre-rooted and that should pose an issue with apps like AOTG, etc..that require non-rooted boxes. Awaiting confirmation on that.

Edit, the more I read about the Beelink, the better the Mecool chances grow.. smile.gif

You tell me how to update...? HTPCs are overpriced and super niche category.. Despite this, much cheaper Android powered boxes can play high bitrate 4K files and 3D games far better than their expensive rival.. biggrin.gif

HTPC running good renderer can beat the oppo... wink.gif

A simple analogy would be like comparing OLED vs VA/IPS...whilst cheaper boxes are like TN

They all can display the pictures... just that some has more oomph than others... but I always advice if you can't tell the difference then it doesn't matter...

And value for money is in the eye of the beholder... wink.gif

FYI... I send my android box hdmi signal to my oppo for further processing... the oppo is so much better smile.gif ... and tbh I probably won't build a dedicated HTPC, but if I'm building one for general use I might as well make sure it does home theater too... I'm also considering a 43" 4K TV as my monitor... so what the hell... just do it (HTPC) ... hahaha

Oh I can tell the difference.. Sure go ahead cuz value for money is truly in the eye of the beholder. Buying a 43" or heck even 100" 8K TV and sitting just an arm's length away as per a monitor, is anyone with the means' prerogative. Still doesn't make it a great idea. Cuz most know (well except those beholders) that it's a bad idea. biggrin.gif.. I'm not simply dissing on HTPCs, I know some are really good. Just that one has to go wayyyy big to get similar performance as a lowly Android box like the Shield or as per your analogy...OLED..and still have to suffer the consequences of using an OLED TV. Such consequences for many is definitely not worth it. For instance, some HTPC's motherboards alone cost at least $100-200, a GeForce GTX 1050 4GB video card alone is an additional almost $200. Then one has one might have to cough up even more cash for some decent RAM, SSD or at least 7200 RPM internal hard disks...all these cost hundred of dollars and I still haven't tossed in the price of a decent processor and let's not forget the high-end TV and AVR-speakers equipment to enjoy all these .. Convert to MYR... rclxub.gif

For some I understand the final figure may not be staggering..So yeah, for the beholder... Please go ahead.. The beauty is truly for your eyes only. tongue.gif
