Both can be used in this box but Netflix has no 4K for this box. Anyway, I don't use Netflix.

Hi there, I bought my tv box 2 years ago. Called Rikomagic MK12:

Quad Core Android PC MK12
OS version:Android 4.4
CPU:Amlogic S812
RAM:2G
Program:16G

I have a few questions:
1) Does this mean that my old android tv version 4.4 is not compatible with many tv apps?
2) If so, how can I update the 4.4 version?

1. No it doesn't mean so.. Ideally Lollipop is the sweet spot for apps compatibility... Many apps still support KitKat, only you'd lose out on certain OS version specific updates. Cuz the app simply can't tap into resources/code that isn't there. So you'll just have to test them out on your device and see if it works.
2. Visited the official Rikomagic MK12 Quad Core Forum and even during 2015, the device didn't get much love. Folks did drop by to ask for a Lollipop upgrade but all went unanswered. So sorry to tell, if currently it doesn't do what you want. It's time for an upgrade.

hello. want to ask about Tx3 Mini 2GB 16GB Smart Android. I do not know anything about tvbox other than what's in 1st page

What I want to do is poke a 1tb hdd into a tvbox then output into a via hdmi to tv - play some movie files. I think max 1080p enough as my tv is 1080p only.

saw the tx3 model in lazada. about RM200. is it good enough for my use? or can go cheaper also work one?

Remember all 1080p files are not equal as some are more demanding than others.. The box should be okay until you want it to do something it's incapable of. Then you'll either have to live with it or fork out more money and buy a better one.. Losing out on initial payment... RM200 is cheap enough. That's $50, subtract manufacturing and shipping costs, seller's profit, etc.. Any cheaper and surely they be cutting corners even more..

So my question : based on your experience, which android box can do Dolby Atmos/DTS X passthrough via HDMI, AND deliver Netflix 4K/Atmos and Youtube 4K for UHD TVs?

From the image above, it seems the only one that can do that is the Nvidea Shield. Second place goes to the Mi Box but no Dolby Atmos/DTS passthrough.

Second question: Is the chart anywhere near accurate?

I just want a box that can do these three things: a) Dolby Atmos/DTS X passthrough using Kodi or some other media player, b) Netflix UHD with Atmos passthrough, c) Youtube 4K.

Netflix 4K Only Nvidia Shield, Mi Box, Apple TV and also all the current release smart TV.

For Dolby Atmos, I think only Nvidia Shield and Apple TV. I not sure on Mi Box because I don't have device to test Dolby Atmos.

YouTube 4K all 4K capable box can do.

Based on your requirements.. I suggest you throwaway the list as it's not even as accurate. Looks primarily based off benchmark results. The Minix Neo U1 isn't even on there. Yet it does YouTube up to 4K via Kodi addon or YouTube app and it supports HD Audio pass-through via HDMI.. I'm sure of up to Dolby Atmos, not sure of DTS:X cuz don't know anyone who has such a setup to test. The Minix Neo U9-H on the other hand can pass-through all including DTS:X audio.

As expected no Netflix UHD with Minix devices.. If you've got a Netflix certified 4K TV, best to use the app on it + an Android box for the best of both worlds... You could check out the latest MiBox too as it supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, UHD Netflix & YouTube 4K with the old app (read not to update it as the updated app has issues and won't play 4K res) ..IMO, I ruled it out for several reasons, including it not having an Ethernet Port and it phones home too much.. Or... Just get the Nvidia Shield 2 Box for a confident all-in-one package.

YouTube and Netflix is freaking fine playing at 4K in Mi Box in latest version apps without any issue.
