This question is a bit strange.

I would like to believe that with the new astro Go version, with a hacked apk, there is no need to unroot or Magisk anymore.

But nevertheless, Magisk is still applicable if you want to. The way to install Magisk onto Amlogic devices are almost the same, it is about booting into TWRP ....

But your could have previously used a ROM which has Magisk already preinstalled. So for the new s905x2 device, if you want to install Magisk, you could face some challenge .....

This is a ROM issue, not SoC issue.

Yeah if you have root and want to run AstroGo 8.2.6, you need Magisk or unroot.

But you don't need to Magisk or unroot when you run the new AstroGo. I modded the new AstroGo to run together with root. You can PM me if you are interested to TRY.

It is selling > RM 600 and seems very quiet about Widevine level. Most likely Widevine L3.

For those who want to buy GT king can consider this one instead, definitely better WiFi performance than GT1 king.

For me, it is out !

For the TV, android or not, it is not the most important evaluation criteria. Most TV, android or not, already have the native and certified version of Netflix running.

However, sometimes people have requirement to run additional apps, this can only be fulfiled by an external android box. Example, AstroGo, YouTube without annoying advertisement which is suddenly louder than your nominal volume settings.

If you want to do this work, you must be prepared to brick the device ( the worst case ) and then learn enough to recover from it.

If you are not prepared to learn anything, then my advise is don't do it.

No, plenty of instruction to unroot a ROM, it is just one google away. People can't follow instructions properly and correctly.

You can try to find.

But easier is to full unroot via SuperSU.

( I suspect even 'full unroot' might not unroot everything fully, so my recommendation is : before full unroot, use ES explorer to browse /system/preinstall and remove the Superuser.apk and/or SuperSu.apk in there first ).

Or the netflix is actually a fake netflix. Some faked ones are pretty good, except they are illegal.

According to this guy, Ugoos Am6 beats Beelink GT king in many areas.



However, this is a Widevine L3 device compared to L1 for GT king. Nevertheless, both cannot run netflix in 4k.

The differences mainly come from software, Ugoos value add in the software. Beelink software value add is weak.

I tried to find a English review, but could not find it.

Anyway this box has these essential features :-

1. Support Netflix 4k
2. DRM L1
3. Has a built in speaker.
4. Price around rm250.

The netflix 4k support may not last. If you wanted to buy it, be warned.

Think again whoever making the recommendation, it is something stupid. Assuming MCMC really ban TV boxes, and people indeed comply, then it will result in people using handphones, tablets or PCs to access internet and connect it to TV.

Can MCMC also ban phones, tablets and PCs, and smart TVs ?

I also spotted the box as a rooted box. It means Netflix can run with root, at least for the ATV version.

This is usually dependent on the video player. Very few players are able to control video when remote is in non-mouse ( TV ) mode. What you do is to press the 'mouse mode' key on the IR remote which put the remote in mouse ( mouse touch mode ) mode, then you should able to navigate the video using Dpad keys.

YouTube TV, Mx player etc are players which can navigate video using non-mouse ( TV ) mode.

AstroGo, MV cast players, HBO Go Malaysia are the mouse mode players,. so you need to put the IR remote in mouse mode first before the Dpad keys can be used to navigate the video.

Toggling between TV mode and mouse mode can be very confusing. That's why people might use two remotes, the IR remote is always set in TV mode, and the airmouse is always put in mouse mode.

Android TV boxes are problematic when running those "free" video apps due to missing top bar in android ATV interface, but in this review, the author said it does not suffer from this problem.

Watch that section of the review below ( jump to 5.17 if impatient ).

Modified apk will be there even if netflix update is selected, it is not possible to override it. Only way to go back to netflix signed apk is to uninstall this modded apk.

Similarly, when one wants to install this modded apk, one will need to uninstall the original netflix (mobile) apk first.
