Hmm wifey's colleague wants to let go a Mi Box, ori msia set.. and wants to buy it.. but told her to hold on till I do some research.

So far, I know it's based on Android TV thus lack of android apps as per the usual android os offers. Also, only 1 usb and no lan port.

On the other hand, Netflix certified and easy navigation. Is sideloading Kodi easy? And does the Mi Box have any issues with Kodi eg playback, framedrops etc?

Want to sideload a few apps eg Kodi / spmc / ftmc, showbox, terrarium, etc..

The MiBox is known to have issues with Kodi... IMO, the fact that it's lacking an ethernet port is an instant turn off. Especially in a condo and having to deal with wifi interference, etc.. No no.. There's a MiBox thread, check it out. Also, do a search for 'MiBox' in the Kodi thread to see issues.

If Kodi isn't your primary app... Then it could be a satisfactory box.

Yup....AFAIK, Rockchip devices are still sorting a couple things out and Kodi performance is still troublesome. I believe, 17.3 probably made it worse. RC's latest and upcoming chip are quite powerful, no doubt.. Just that the software or manufacturers aren't paying much attention to them now.. Or RC isn't quick to release code to help.. So, better safe than sorry.

IMHO... If flagship boxes from the likes of Minix and HiMedia is within your budget, go with em.. For future proofing, It's the Minix Neo U9-H (not the Neo U1), especially for Kodi support and general ass-kicking. I can't remember who, recently there was a user who had troubles deciding between it and the Q10 Pro.. Owners of the devices dropped by to share their respective results. Isolate my posts or go back a couple pages to see.. Or there's page one too. Should help with the decision. Either way, depending on your requirements, they are both above average boxes.

I also want to know about minix neo U9-H and himedia Q10pro.
I know H-Q10pro hi performance, but really cant watch like txb and other popular channel?

TLDR... Minix Neo U9-H.

What you need to understand is that device does not equal iptv channel service.. The general rule is: "Find the source, Play the source". No stock Minix device ships with anything but the bare minimum apps and personally, I love it that way...Vanilla Android-like... They don't bundle any illegal stuff. I'm unsure about himedia, but I'll assume they are similar.. Both manufacturers build boxes for reputation. So you won't see them advertising or packaging their devices as "Kodi/IPTV Package boxes". However, if the source you plan on using is compatible with em, they'll play it.

Hi all,

I have gone through a couple of pages and here's my concern for someone who can assist on giving me some advise. I currently own a NexBox A5 and seems to be pretty 'decent' so far. I plan to use it as a secondary player for my room and get a good player that supports Dolby / Surround Sound as I have newly gone into the home theatre world and spoilt myself with a 5.1 set up.

From the reading I have done here, the best would be HiMedia Q10 Pro or the Minix U9-H (please correct me if I am wrong). I love watching movies and would now like to fully utilise my surround set up. I have used KODI before, but I am not sure if I am using it properly as it is pretty complicated and I find it very tedious and difficult to use. I have since started watching my shows on apps like MovieHD etc which is very convenient.

To get a proper surround, I've started downloading 40-50GB BluRay DTS/Master to maximize my experience. Hence the player I get should be able to support these files and play flawlessly.

I do not have any subscription TV at home and have a NetFlix subscription along with my Android Box. Netflix does not support true surround, so I am hoping for some guidance from you guys.

Hope someone can help and give me some advise. I am leaning towards the Q10 Pro due to the HDD slot availability and plan to download my favourite movies in full bluray and transfer them for keeps on the player.

Hope someone can advise me, and perhaps also tell me if I am utilising the player as I should? A lot of folks seem to be ditching subscriptions and watching live TV on KODI etc, is it easy? Seems very complicated to me despite going through many many posts and youtube videos.

Thanks guys.

UPDATE
-------------------------

I have purchased the Zidoo X10 and am pretty happy with it. Only issue I have is, I have a HDD installed in the player and am trying to figure out a way to transfer directly from my PC to the HDD in player. I've reasd first page recommending samba and ftp but have been trying to figure this out for hrs... both devises are connected via LAN.

Help Me !

Hello LYN Members,

I am looking to get an android box for my room but I am not sure which one. Before I get attacked, yes I did read from page one. Android box is very new to me and I actually didn't understand lots of stuff. Not familiar with sideloading, apk, etc until I googled. Didn't even know what Kodi is till I googled.
Anyway mainly I want to use the android box for movies, YT and most importantly live sports smile.gif Can you please suggest what would be good for me?
My budget: Under 500
Resolution: HD. My tv isn't 4K tv
My internet speed: 30mbps

I did a little reading and was looking at these 4. Do you guys recommend any of them? If not I am open to suggestions smile.gif

Minix Neo U9-H is the highly recommended Android box as it comes with the Amlogic S912 processor which provide excellent support for 4K video formats. However, the price is a little on the high side. A lot of the China brand Android boxes are using exactly the same processor and GPU with even higher RAM (3G) and cost only half of the price, however the main concern is on the Firmware support. The main complaint for the S912 box is the audio support especially for the multi-channel HD audio. Not sure if Minix U9-h got such problem or not.

Strangely, nobody is comparing the Minix Neo U9-H to Himedia A5 which is exactly the same box as the processor, GPU and RAM are all the same. Any reason why Himedia A5 should not be the alternative to Minix U9H instead of Q10 Pro?

Outline steps taken on the Zidoo and your PC. Most often than not, could be firewall/anti-virus issues.

From that list, get the Minix Neo U1... I own one, been using it awhile and our needs are similar. The more important question would be your live sports.. You need to seek out a somewhat reliable source.. Most likely a paid service. I use Kodi for majority of my streaming needs.

Alternatively, if considering the U1, then might as well spring for the Minix U9-H... Latest flagship device.

I believe it's cuz both the Neo U9-H and Q10pro are their flagship devices.

Bought nvidia shield tv to start cord cutting. Overall, as per review, blazing fast. Kodi works great, audio pass through is excellent (through kodi).
Only downside (at least for now) is can't install myiptv, even after using latest apk. Not sure why.

Cuz Android TV OS... Installing and getting regular Android apks to work on it has always been hit and miss, even for big budget app devs.. Much less myiptv.

A5 worse than Minix U9H or Q10 pro?

Btw, understand that Minix U9H is also not Netflix certified, so can it stream full HD or 4K videos from Netflix?

Nope.. As discussed earlier, ONLY Netflix certified devices will experience such (limited to 480p res and no DD5.1 sound).. Netflix blocks at server level, not app. So even if the device is capable and the apk is tweaked.. It doesn't matter as it'll get blocked eventually. So best to use the Netflix app on your smart tv or get an external player officially listed on Netflix's website.

The question isn't if such boxes can function (they can), it's if the service you intend to use on the device, will work as intended and without much buffering. 2Mbps for most is considered pretty slow and so expect some buffering.

Finally bite the bullet getting the Mini-X U9-H from 11 Street bundled with A3 Air Mouse.

So expensive LOL.

It's like RM677 after discount and shipping fee.
