Hi guys/sifus,

I am new to the Android box arena. I need some help. I have an extra  PC monitor lying around and i want to use android tv box for the monitor.
So I checked, the monitor only has a hdmi input. Now my question is, the monitor abviously CANNOT play the sound via the HDMI stream from the android box. Most android boxes only has hdmi output.

1) How to deal with this issue?

2) Which box would you recommend with budget about RM 300 - RM 400 ? - watching movies and minor gaming only

3) Can use bluetooth headphones with the box?

Your help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

If your monitor have speaker build-in then it will work, else just get a pair of speaker.

2) Which box would you recommend with budget about RM 300 - RM 400 ? - watching movies and minor gaming only
Beside Mi Box I not sure what to recommended in this range. Others people here will have more choices as long as you don't care on Netflix.

3) Can use bluetooth headphones with the box?
Yes you can.

Thank you so much for your response. Appreciate it very much.
But I am still confused...if i get speaker, most android tv boxes have only hdmi output.
There is no way to connect the speaker to the box. sad.gif

Lets say if i get T95Z Plus,
they have HDMI output and also AV output...so according to you,
i can configure the box to output video via HDMI and sound via AV?
Does it work that way?

I don't want to buy, and then cannot use with monitor because of sound issues...will be very sad.
And i can't find people who have similar issues, else i can just tt from them.

Thanks much.

Beside above user mentioned. Another way is connect to Bluetooth speaker.

I've both many devices with zero reviews from overseas sellers and only had to return just one. The one returned was kinda expected cuz it's one of those "As seen on TV" products with shoddy marketing. Only cost under RM20..got refunded. Yeah noticed both sizes are similarly priced.. I actually don't mind buying it and giving it a try, as long as I can offload it unto someone else with low needs later. If scam as in seller can't send or sends a funny item.. Meh, I know my ways dealing with Lazada CS.. Even better..  biggrin.gif

Kodi is the most cumbersome apps. It waste time to setup and needs more waste time update it from time to time, some more freaking big.

I throw it long ago. Haha!

To be honest, TV boxes are difficult for elderly people if they are not good with technology. My parents are not well-verse with IT stuff and it is really difficult for them to learn and use. That's why I stick to Astro at home while I use Android box at my own place.

If you intend to find a box which works like Astro, turn on and can straight select channels via remote, there's none. All Android boxes require one to navigate from apps to apps and select from there.
*
Don't said TV box, even a normal blu-ray player I also need time to time remind my father how to use it as he will forgotten sometimes due to the menu selection confuse him. By the way my father already 80+.

For TV box, he refuse to learn it already, same as he refuse to learn the mobile phone function, he only learn how to pick-up, calling and end the call. That it, haha!

So Astro is still there because that one look normal to my father and easier for my father to use it.

Neo u9h minix seems better performance, can install any app. Hav restriction for skysports. Supprt 4K HDR DOLBY.

If your main reason is Netflix 4K, get only Nvidia Shield (Android TV OS) or Apple TV 4K Box (Apple TV OS).

If you want more freedom on application, then only Nvidia Shield.

If you no budget and don't might the performance (every startup need few minutes to let it settle down and load smooth) or bugs, then get Mi Box (Android TV OS) (make sure it is international and no root version)

Others box that play Netflix 4K include Amazon Fire, Amazon Fire Cube which need purchase from overseas and I don't very recommended it unless you are big fans of Amazon and watch Amazon Prime.

The rest most is Android Mobile OS TV Box and not support Netflix in 4K, not even in 1080p.

Sure, i would have suggested that, except it he wanted ATMOS support.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the Mecool KM3 better than the KM9 Pro?  rclxub.gif.. Why they have to name it as such.. Even I, initially assumed that the KM9 Pro due to the naming and not released long ago would be the most recent.. Turns out it's the KM3. Improved specs over the KM9 includes..
*64GB vs 32 GB ROM (much welcome)..
*HDMI 2.1 with dynamic HDR and HDCP 2.2 VS 2.0a with HDR
*Wireless AC vs B/G/N (performance improvement? unknown)..

Sadly, they still stick with 10/100 and no Gigabit Ethernet.. Wonder why.. hmm.gif
*
If GHOSTVIC need Netflix in Dolby Atmos. The only TV box support is Apple TV 4K. Another solution is buy a new TV that support it except Samsung brand as no Samsung TV is supporting Dolby Atmos.

Nvidia Shield do support Dolby Atmos in others apps but not for Netflix.

Nope.. Not for Netflix.. For other files playback. Besides, the Apple TV can't cater to his other requirements. Ehem stuff.

Other supporting devices.. Officially from Netflix..
LG OLED TVs (2017 or newer models)
Panasonic TVs (2019 or newer models)
Pixela 4K Smart Tuner
Roku TVs (2018 or newer models)
Sony BRAVIA Android TVs (2018 or newer models)
Toshiba TVs (2019 or newer models)
Vizio TVs (2018 or newer models)
Windows 10 computer or tablet (requires Windows 10 RS3 Build 16299 or later)
Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X.
*
Yup, that why I said the other solution is buy a new TV as the only TV box support is Apple TV 4K and also Pixela (this is for Japan country).

Apple TV 4K can play ahem staff but not in streaming format. Plex and infuse is two apps that playback downloadable ahem movie. Haha! biggrin.gif
But both not support Dolby Atmos as Apple disable it, everything play in Plex and Infuse will be convert to PCM up to 7.1 channel.

Wait they is still got one option, buy the XBox gaming device.

True.. But ayam not like Apple ecosystem.. Too many unnecessary walls and cuddling. I get it some folks just want things handled.. Good for them.. I also don't like Plex either, it's nice, fancy and all.. But I'd rather fetch and play directly a source file.. No transcoding or assists.. Just pass along the raw file and let the AV system do it's work. Speaking of which.. My HT is acting up, time to test HM's extended warranty policy. See if can score a later model for free, if they can't fix it.. laugh.gif
*
Plex no longer transcoding, it can be set play original format. But I don't use Plex also, I only use it for movie information database. Plex still not playing very smooth in 4K HDR movie at Apple TV 4K device where the image will jumping from time to time.

Local download movie playback in Apple TV 4K I always use Infuse because it is freaking smooth for all kind of movie I throw in nor-matter how big the bitrate are. The cons of Infuse is it need others apps to control the movie information database, that the reason I use Plex in PC for auto collecting the movie information / put my preferable cover.

Actually until now I can't find a box that do all what I want.
  • Apple TV 4K - support Netflix and iTunes in Dolby Atmos but not in apps that not using streaming method, thus Plex and Infuse output sound in multi-channel PCM (up to 7.1 depends on source).
  • Nvidia Shield - support Dolby Atmos in Plex or Kodi but not support in Netflix.
Haizz! when can I have a TV Box that support Netflix in Dolby Atmos and also local movie playback in Dolby Atmos...
I don't want two box because my SoundBar only have 1 HDMI-IN.
HDMI splitter wise I haven't try and I not sure got HDMI splitter support Full RGB / 4:4:4 YUV @ 4K HDR output or not.

I understand.. There's not a single perfect box. TBH, if there isn't a perfect phone or car or even house.. Won't be expecting same from a single box manufacturer. Else, how to sell later and make more profit.. laugh.gif.. Which is why I'm grateful hat I don't have to upgrade my AV equipment just yet. But in a couple years, definitely have to.. Hoping by then that even smarter TVs and decent boxes will be out. So one TV, box, AVR and surround speakers will do all the job nicely.

I too can't speak for splitters.. But there should be at least one splitter that can accurately and reliable transfer the signals from multiple sources to a recriver..no hassle... And with a wireless remote to switch between sources from the couch. Either that.. Or you too have to upgrade to AVR d.. Oh yeah, soundbars....IMO  shakehead.gif  It's worse than pseudo UHD from Netflix compared to the real thing. But hey, works for you I guess. I wouldn't use such for even DD5.1 audio..
IKR... shocking.gif . Should be with overhead speakers setup..  sweat.gif
*
Yalo, true also.

My current LG SK9Y soundbar is enough for me. smile.gif Haha! Remember I using TV speaker previously. tongue.gif

Splitter I will find out later and hope it won't waste my money purchase it. Haha! Great to know they is wireless connection to change it.

That's what I thought too. Next year I will move into my own place and plan to buy a 4K TV to enjoy 4K contents. I'm a lazy bum, so won't be doing any downloads. Gotta straight stream 4K shows via Netflix and YouTube, I'm also interested in MiBox as it's Netflix certified and pretty affordable. Since it's not rooted, I will assume it can run Astro Go and UniFi TV app.

Now comes the dilemma, my Minix u1 works perfectly but like you said except it's not Netflix certified. I'm wondering if I should buy a smart TV to run 4K Netflix and YouTube while maintaining the Minix for other purposes. Or just buy a normal 4K TV and Mibox but gotta abandon my Minix. Sigh. sad.gif
*
If for 4K Netflix and YouTube only, I suggest you straight buy 4K HDR smart TV. It is unnecessary change your current TV box.

By the way, now 99.99% 4K HDR TV came with support of Netflix and YouTube in 4K. This thing is already a standard for all new release 4K HDR TV since last year or last two years.

Sorry to OT a bit, I'm a newbie in TVs, so did you mean I don't even need a Smart TV to run these two apps? Wah, I'm so outdated. If that's the case, I should just buy a normal 4K HDR TV and maintain the Minix U1, correct? This is the best option for me and can save some bucks for better audio. thumbup.gif

Hi. Most new 4K HDR (kindly get with HDR support model) is smart TV. They is very less normal 4K TV for those branded TV.

Below is common OS bundle for 4K HDR TV. As long it is within following OS, then it fulfill your requirement.

- Sony (Google Android TV) - Not all model
- Sharp (Google Android TV) - Not all model
- Samsung (Tizen)
- LG (WebOS)
- Panasonic (MyHomeScreen)

Hi. Actually a lot now.

My copy 90% out of 1.980+ titles is in H.265 format where 280+ titles is in 4K HDR. My 1.980+ titles is just a little part of available titles in the market now, it can be nearly to said every title in H.264 will have in H.265 format as well.

I only pick H.264 if don't have H.265 or the H.264 quality is better. Soon or later all will switch over to H.265 (HEVC).

Anyone try the Beelink GT-King.

How is it in term of performance, sound support, auto switch frame rate and resolution is it working? Can this play remux copy of 4K HDR source smoothly? If cannot then I will forget about it.

No need Netflix as I still have my Apple TV 4K.

Just feel like take one play play.

I just found your review but haven't read yet.

I forgot add on the most important question.

Is this box or any box can passthru Dolby Atmos, except using Kodi. [Edit: No need answer as I already get the answer]

Edit: I just read and include comment from AVANS in your review, no lossless track support, probably can't auto switch frame rate also, this both is big deal and make this device not good for me

It is not worth for me to buy already. Haha.

Thanks for your review on this model https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4785738
