Hey guys! I'm planning to do a small renovation to my studio apartment. It's only 450 sqft and I only wanna do:

1) Simple plaster ceiling
2) Simple kitchen cabinet
3) Toilet retiling

I just wanna ask for advice from all the sifus, should I hire contractor or not? Or should I contact each specialist to do each task? If so, do you guys have recommended person who can do each job? Thanks in advance!

Any recommended contractor or specialist? Do let me know ya smile.gif

Get one single contractor which handles all. Let him contact and coordinate the other specialist. He will mostly select the specialist whom he has worked well with.
If you get three separate specialist of their own field they might not cooperate and may bicker among each other. When anything goes wrong..each will blame the other party.

if u want tight budgetary cost:

1) Simple plaster ceiling
- exposed ceiling / zen style (wiring exposed- tehtarik place/kopitiam) or u can refer edgeproperty website

2) Simple kitchen cabinet
- Ikea can help u on this. (1K-3K++)

3) Toilet retiling
- This one i would suggest painting the tiles..which is im looking for feedback from people who apply this.

I'm happy with their work. If not I wouldn't recommend

My original tiles were from Feruni so I had to get back the same. Feruni showroom is in PJ

if got time, you coordinate the contractors will end up cheaper.

Tiles - you buy the tiles (consider Niro Granite Outlet at Shah Alam), buy the cement / water-proof / gum (consider ATKC Banting- e-shop). Ask only for quote on labour. Over buy on water-proof / gum. Try Budi (google lowyat budi)

Plaster ceiling - consider Weng (google plaster ceiling weng)

floor area too small thus higher price and wastage ..

A renovation contractor would be cheaper due to their ex-stock material (usually bulk buys) and better contacts..

I would say you appoint respective contractor separately.
For example, the kitchen cabinet you can engage those kitchen cabinet expert,
for wardrobe, tv cabinet you can engage those that make wardrobe /woodwork contractor.

For civil work like plaster ceiling, you can engage those that work on tiles and ceiling work type.

Just do it separately, as I don't think these 3 activities will interfere or involve lots of coordination. Cheers.
