In photography terms, the lower the number 8,16,14,28(mm) means it's a wider image. The higher the number, the narrower the image gets but in return it's more zoomed in.
So to answer your question 56mm is better for zooming. But the phone does it for you anyway.

Thats not what he meant. There's a setting within the menu of picking what resolution you want to shoot in. He was referring to that
