Guys kinda need input from your side. My golden hamster is around one and half year old d, every night I will let it roam free at my living room, usually can climb 3 step of stairs, climb up sofa, curtain, bucket. Every night really active from 8.30pm~2am, than go back to its cage itself.

Suddenly last week, it's not active anymore, look very weak, even if came out also <2 hour than go back to it's cage d. It's bottom always wet, kinda like wet itself. No appetite anymore, size noticeably smaller.  Call and consult few Dr. but they mention not familiar with hamster. So any suggestion? Located in Penang
Anybody with similar experience?

- TLDR
- Hamster usually very active but suddenly became weak a week ago.
- Seems always wet itself, when back to cage earlier..
- Call and consult few Dr. but they mention not familiar with hamster (Penang)
- Anybody with similar experience?

It's bottom always wet
as you mention.. sounds like wet tail?

QUOTE
The term “wet tail” is one that refers to a severe case of hamster diarrhea caused by various bacteria and genetic factors. ... It's difficult to pin point which bacteria is the root cause of wet tail disease but it's thought to be more likely brought on during times of high stress of a hamster

oh simple. diarrhea. chances are that little fella lick some dirt/or eat something dirty that causes it to lose appetite and not eat. i believe it also like to drag it's butt around?

go for vet and get the antibiotic and a syringe (non-needle) and feed it twice a day (morning and night). after 24-48 hours should be fine and start eating again. around RM10+ for 2-3 drips of antibiotic from vets.

p/s: clean your surroundings. they are a rat species anyway that is curious to touch/eat anything they see.

Definitely wet tail, bring it to Vet ASAP. It might be minor while some serious case might cause death within a week.

I recently just found out that I could do better.
Chatted with the store that sell wooden hamster wheel.
Asking the person for more qty than what the store has.
As i need to upgrade 6, I told them wood or plastic is not an issue as long as its above 10inch.
Then This person actually taught me how to DIY very very easy and cheaply.
Bought the wheel bearing and a basin, make a hole in the middle.
And its done.

I would like to share my version of hamster wheel that cost me only RM20 for a 10inch /25cm wheel.

Wheel Bearing - RM15
10 inch Round Basin - RM5.

Note: I am told, the wheel bearing can support any size round basin, try to get the thick type. soft type will wobble/shaky too much.

The round basin, any place can get, just try to find those are firm. if you can bend the round basin slightly then it is not firm enough.

As for the wheel bearing, so far I only saw that this link have only.

I clean the cage once a week, I let it roam my living room every night for few hour, there might be a lot of possible cause but nth can be done now I guess.
I gonna miss it trying to follow you through sliding door to kitchen, climb the stairs just to try to get into empty dustbin and suddenly climb onto sofa unnoticed.
Never expect I would sob for days because of 1 hamster..

Is there ever a problem with the hamster wheel being too big for a hamster?
Currently have a 12cm wheel and it looks too small for my Campbell.

so ya. currently looking at a 20cm wheel. would that be too much?

10 cm to 14 cm wheel is only good for roborovski.
14 to 21 cm is good for winter white n Campbell.
21 to 30 cm is good for Syrian hamster. 21 cm is great when the Syrian is still small size.

Sometimes is better to go big rather than small. But this motto is not good for roborovski. Because they tend to run faster, too big, they flip out.

Campbell n winter white will love slightly wider wheel since they love to sleep on the wheel as well. Do make sure, the wheel is light weight if it's bigger than 17cm.

Glad the babies survives and healthy.

This is why it is highly recommended by all roborovski hamster owners to always remove wheel when they are due to give birth or as soon as you realize there is a baby in the bedding or wheel. Roborovski really really loved their wheel and sand bath. biggrin.gif

I find this only happen to roborovski, I never encounter on campbell, winter white or syrian breeds.

Becoming a hamster breeder and seller. hmm.gif

Well, I urge you to consider what are you aiming for such as Is it based on interest or profit?

There are costs of caring to consider - (Not a complete list)

--- During this stage, are you going to treat them as pets or just animals rclxub.gif
----- What type of breed you want to sell.
----- What is your hamster bonded pair quantity limit.
----- What are you gonna do if the pups cannot be sold.
----- What are you going to give them -->
---------- Wheels ?
---------- Time - Taming their behavior ?
---------- Food quality ?
---------- Bedding quality ?
---------- Hamster cage ? (which type and size)

*2015 version by hamsterhideout*We all know hamster needed atleast LWH 50x40x30cm (300 sq inches)for dwarf hamster bonded pair
or atleast 70x40x40cm (450 sq inches) for syrian hamster to be humane environment**

**2017 version by hamsterhideout**
For all hamster species, the minimum is 450 square inches (70x40x40cm) and recommended is 650 square inches (90x45x40cm)**

Additional Storage ( Hamster cage) needed when
--- Fighting occurs.
--- Pregnant hamster needed separation from the male.
--- Bonded pair need separation.

Things will happen or u need to monitor
--- Bonded pair might not have pups.
--- Monitor their pups age and behavior.
--- Any defects from the parents will carry forward to the pups, therefore the bonded pair can no longer breed.
Separation is needed. Then what are you going do with bonded pair and pups.

*** vmad.gif Most breeders that wants profit only will put all bonded pair is a inhumane conditions
- Small bar cages / Small storage box that is about size of LWH 20x15x20
- Large storage bin with many pairs (males/females) together
- No Wheel
- Food low quality
- Bedding low quality
- No taming process

As for search of new customers, Places to have a good start
- Facebook pages,
- Mudah.my
- Petfinder.my
- Forums

Then You need to consider
- Will you be offering
----- Cash on Delivery (COD)
----- Self Collection

Next, Will you also be offering extra services for Newbies Hamster Owners
- Hamster Cage or Full Set
- Proper Guidelines??

And the list goes on...

Guys, any idea whr to find someone who sell diy cage? I need a big cage for my syrian as my current bin cage cant fit in my 30cm wheel..Usually I put the wheel outside the cage and let my syrian roam around my room..sometimes I m not around to play with it..afraid it might feel stress without wheel in the small cage..
