Then a entry-level DSLR or mirrorless is enough for the job biggrin.gif

Just get a proper video LED lights too, so that you don't have to bump up your ISO too much.

If you want some bokeh effects, either go for 35mm or 50mm F1.8 smile.gif

You may need to get a proper tripod that comes with tiltable centre column, or else it may not be as sturdy.

If you insist on buying the mount, it would be quite pricey.

Check here

If you wanna go high-end on the lightings, you can get the continuous studio lights that comes with softboxes. Check out 3 point lightings. biggrin.gif

xionid, would you have the time to experiment with whatever you have so far instead of getting higher tech equipment?

Here is a summary of how Tasty videos are shot. There is also a tutorial on how to use an iPhone camera for shooting Tasty-esque videos.

Interesting. So they used 2 c-stands and a should be a back drop pole to get table top downward view. Cheaper lighter versions of c-stand are light stands.

Food is more focus on set up and less focus on camera. So spend money on getting light stands/backdrop sets,

Here's some stuff that can probably help with the setup:

Backdrop stand set - just under RM 300
http://www.dgcoloronline.com/DigiColor-Backdrop-Stand-Large
or
http://www.gstrapinuse.com/index.php?main_...products_id=834

One of these Clamps or a Vice grip to mount camera. Just under RM 80
http://www.dgcoloronline.com/index.php?rou...&product_id=210
or
http://www.gstrapinuse.com/index.php?main_...roducts_id=1229

Then a tripod with ball head. You can take that ball head off this tripod and then attach it to the clamp as mentioned just above, so easier to get the angle. And the whole tripod can be used for close up shots. Priced under RM 240.
http://www.gstrapinuse.com/index.php?main_...products_id=937

Then now its LEDs which you can get too cheap with them, but they useful if you want consistent results and not depend on the right daylight and time of day. This one seems good and less than RM 440 each.
http://www.gstrapinuse.com/index.php?main_...roducts_id=1220

And Light stands to hold your lights. Less than RM 100 for each
http://www.gstrapinuse.com/index.php?main_...products_id=958

For LEDs you should get 3, but if you're on a budget just get 2 and experiment.

So all that above is already around RM 2240. Not even including camera or even the table that the food be shot on.

Then you got to stand money on Getting a nice table, plates and other stuff to get a nice food layout. People hire food stylist to do this job so that's how important set up is!

FYI all that stuff above can be sold off 2nd hand so if you don't want it anymore you can always liquidate it and not take 100% loss.

awesome! thats some detail setup over there...thank you so much! under 3k budget is exactly what i'm looking for, thank you so much! is there any other alternative instead of using LED?
like replacing it will soft lighting that is cheap and good? hehe...

so is it possible to get that kind of "tasty" video shot just by using entry level DSLR or mirrorless camera?

There is not much difference between those two. But D5000 series comes with a flip screen which may help u in taking your video. biggrin.gif

You can achieve it with a 2nd hand Canon 600D or 650D at KLDSLR: http://www.kldslr.com/Used-List
Cheap 2nd hand cameras with flip screen. Flip screen to help get you angles easier. 600D or 650D both shoot nice 1080p video. Good cheap cameras to learn from.

For DSLR and mirrorless cameras people mostly only talk about 3 brands - Canon, Sony and Panasonic. Panasonic is expensive in Malaysia and not sure why. Sony brings out a lot of impressive specs but are not cheap. The impressive specs are the reason I see a lot of guys use them, especially the sony A7S line. Canon is known as the brand that started the DSLR video world, but has slowed down to protect its expensive cinema line.

No point buying all the advance stuff if you don't know your stuff yet. There is no perfect camera and you have to learn the pros and cons of each brand when the time comes to upgrade.

As for cheap lights you can try this 3 piece set: http://www.gstrapinuse.com/index.php?main_...roducts_id=1085 , but they are probably only plug in power and not so mobile. So if these lights are always staying at one place, like your home studio, then it should be fine.
