Dear fellow Lowyat people,

Last weekend I just adopted a kitten at my apartment area.

Found this kitten last 1 or 2 weeks ago mingling around my apartment area and always crying for food.

Before I adopted it, I'll bottle feed it when I'm around and till last week I decided to adopt it since it's mother it's not around, assuming this kitten might be abandoned by it's mother.

So now I gave it a shelter, a home where it doesn't need to mingle around and cry for food.

After I brought it home, I gave it a good shower (found few fleas in the dirt water) and bought a cage and gave it a shelter.

Friend advise me to buy Frontline Spray, a spray which specialise on fleas. Will try to use it on the kitty 2 days later from now as I just gave it a shower last weekend, the pet shop advise me not to apply this spray on the kitten after shower as it might damage the kitten's skin.

I have to work from 9am - 6pm and might only reaches home around 7 something after office hour due traffic. Anyone of you has this experience? Morning before I going to work I'll feed the kitten but between 9am - 6pm, I'm not around to provide it food when it's hungry. Will it starve to death?

What are the vaccination and neutering price nowadays? I'm staying in Cheras area, any recommended vet shop with reasonable prices?

Usually how old only the kitten able to consume dry food? Any brands recommendation?

Please feel free to comment and give me advise on how to take good care of the kitten, really appreciated and thanks in advance!

i fed dry food to stray cat (just born type) if they want to survive, they will have way to eat it.

last 2 month, i found a kitten at my condo, i think he didnt eat for few days ...

he got no strength to move around, so i bring him back and feed him with wet food ....

he do eat a little bit n after a few day slowly he ok already can eat n shit..... but i saw he got some flea ...

so i go to buy some flea medicine from pet shop n apply to his skin .....

but unfortunately, after i apply, he die at night.

i think the medicine is too strong for him ....

so when apply the flea medicine on cat, pls just apply a little bit first to test ....

btw i already 'tanam' the cat near the longkang area, hope he can rip ....

Sad to hear that.. What brand of the flea medicine you've bought?

The pet shop told me that the Frontline Spray are safe to use even the kitten it's only 2 days old. After apply the medicine to the kitten, if it licked or consumed the medicine, it won't harm it. That's what the pet shop said to me

get some kitten dry food to standby for him/her, can be find easily in any petshop, or just show them the pict, this size can eat what kitten food, (Royal canin BABY cat series might have better chance, the pallet is alot smaller)
frontline is the best for fleas, but the chemical might be alittle to aggressive to kitten, my advise is (if u have that patient) pour the frontline to a bottle cup, use cotton bud and soak the frontline and pin point the fleas with it, instant kill, aware of their cheek and under tail, those spot are fleas favorite.

vaccination is a great choice to prevent ur kitty from unnecessary deadly disease, vaccination can be perform around 3 months old (human time)
4 in 1 vaccination + deworm price around :RM 55 (first vaccination)
one month later u can go for 2nd vaccination (4 in 1 also) + deworm which is also RM55
this is the BASIC vaccination, u can go for premium coverage, but then that come with a higher price.

Neutering can be perform when the cat is around 5-6 months old (human time)
price is around (subjective to each vet)
male: 130-180
female: 180-250

I can't really spot where's the flea exactly, just happen to saw 1 or 2 running around when I'm bottle feeding the kitten.

Neutering price are really expensive.. Just visited my local vet shop and it cost around the maximum rate you mentioned

Yes, the flea is quite hard to spot, but once u get use to the cat, things will come handy.
Yep, Neutering is indeed expensive, but is worth the price, the cat will be alot calm (chances), accident free as they dont really fight much if his a he (chances), headache free from pregnancy if is a female (Thats for sure!).

Bottom line, neutering is a responsible, so please schedule that in ur list.

i got hedgeghog at home mar, they eat kitten food 1.
so i just give them eat. they seem to chew longer lor, better then hungry.

Yea.. maybe will call and arranged for appointment when my kitten is big enough.. But hopefully the Klinik Kembiri won't packed with people

Yea it's really hard to spot it.. Already planned to neuter it once it's old enough.. Just looking for a vet shop with reasonable price to do it because I'm just a normal salary man

I see.. I read some articles they advised mixed the dry food with milk so it'll soften the dry food and makes it easier for the kitten to eat

I save my cat when he was almost the same age as yours. Me and my wife took tremendous measures, having his best interests at heart.

For neutering, best determine the gender first.
If male, then the need is a tad lesser. Ours is not neutered yet too.

We fed our boy milk replacement on his 2nd month age, then starting 3rd month we gave him wet food.
Later on we slowly mix, and gradually kncrease the amount of kibbles and reducing wet food as time goes on. The process took about 2 or 3 weeks.

Oh ya, do you find that your kitten eventually smelled bad after taking wet food?

My kitten smells awfully bad now because this morning after I feed milk, then I pour some wet food into the bowl just in case when it's hungry there's something for it for eat when I'm not around.

Once I'm back to home, it's smell really bad.. Do you face this issue before and how do you overcome it?

A little, I think it's because it's not licking it's fur yet. My cat didn't start licking himself until he's older. So my wife would wipe him before we leave home for work and once we reach home. One day we found out, oh, the guy knows how to settle himself. Then we stop wiping him.

But as for wet food, you don't leave it. Because it goes bad later. Just feed it the portion as suggested, and don't leave food free flow. It is actually a bad habit and might pose difficulties in case you need to control it's food intake as part of weight management measures in the future. We only feed our boy once in morning and once in night. Even so, he managed to grow from 500 grams to the 6.5kg hulk of flesh/fat now.

If you really need to leave some food. Leave only dry kibbles as the state of the food doesn't detiorate that easily compared to wet food.

We humans might not be able to smell and determine that well, but cats being more sensitive, are extremely finicky when it comes to food and water. Hence wet food which deteriorates quickly, will keep the cat away from food. Dry food however, is like crackers to them. So they will eat it as long as its not exposed more than a day.
Water is the same too. You might have to change water twice a day or so. At least my cat, in his case.

Hence the storage of your kibbles is important too.
I once had a box of kibbles whicj was left open for a day, we've forgotten and left the lid open. That box was left unfinished as my cat wouldn't eat it anymore. It knows whether the food is fresh, or not. That box of kibbles was then "donated" to my wife's mother who leaves the occasional food bowl behind her house for stray cats, which help keeps off mice.
