I just bought a dell inspiron 6400 which comes with McAfee security centry last week. Upon the first turn on the comp prompted me to upgrade my Mcafee Anti software to new patch / version. After upgrading everything is fine except for web browsing which has become very very slow!!! like those in dial up days or worse.

I have disabled the phishing option but it's still the same. Even reinstalled the whole software but it still gave the same result. So i totally remove the prgram completely and gonna call dell tmrw. No point buying the software if it totally screw up my system.

JUst wanna know if anyone using McAfee having this problem?
Thanks

I have a dell 5150. Also 'upgraded' McAfee security when company prompted. Since then everything has slowed to a crawl. In Task manger found that there is a process 'emproxy.exe' that is hogging the system.
Could not use IE& at all. Almost 100% all the time. Did a google search and found that 'emproxy' is a e-mail virus scanner by McAfee. Many are having problems with the latest version. Tried turning McAfee but not much help. Emproxy still running.

Called dell and they told me that IE7 is the problem. Now have stopped IE7 and using alternate browser. Now I can use but system is much slower. Many times system freezes when I click between programs or tabs. Disappointing that McAfee has not offered a patch to patch their patch!

There is a serious problem with McAfee's latest security center and there is no proper instruction on how to deal with this.

They said it might due to the phising filters of the McAfee SC that clashes with IE 7 phishing system. They asked me to disable the Mcafee SC system to check if the web browsing will become faster. I havnt tried that since the lappie is not with me right now..

Maybe you should give it a try too...

I was asked to turn off IE7 and you are asked to disable McAfee. There is obviously a clash but turning off IE7 did not show much improvement.

Today system seems to be normal. McAfee is doing background scanning and I am using IE7. There was an update that downloaded yesterday and installed at shut down.

Will see if this improvement continues.

Cheers.

The update is for McAfee software or IE? If it really improves the web browsing performance i might consider reinstall back McAfee...Will wait for your update smile.gif

Sorry. Should have mentioned. Update was automatic and is installed at shutdown. I think it is windows update. So far no problems.

You mean after installing the updates for Window and with the updated McAfee SC 7.. you are able to browse web using IE 7 with no ultra speed? Waht did you change initially? Was it you turn off the anti phishing filter option?

I did turn off firewall & e-mail scan. But there was not much effect. It was only at shutdown that the automatic update installed. When I switched on PC again, no more problems.

Suggest that you install latest winxp updates and restart. Maybe can work.
