When will bermaz bring in ?

Engine choices remain unchanged, which includes a 1.3-litre Skyactiv-G that does 93 hp and 123 Nm paired to a six-speed automatic and a 1.5-litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel with 105 hp and 250 Nm, also paired to a six-speed automatic.

Owned the pre-FL Mazda 2 Skyactiv, my advice is stay clear until Bermaz solve the following issue on Mazda 2 Skyactiv. If they didn't change the design/solve the issue, very high chance you will be facing with this problem even with the FL version.

• Front suspension/steering rack design sucks, always got sound, the steering will become loose and parts knocking feel can be felt thru the steering after a few thousand KM drive since brand new, and feels like it can break off anytime. Greasing the intermediate shaft only cover up the problem, warranty claim by changing strut bearings and intermediate shaft do not solve the problem permanently.
• Factory fitted start-stop GS battery will kaput after 1 year and a bit more, regardless of mileage, owners feedback from 2X,000km to 6X,000km, less than a year to 1.5 years. Battery warranty T&C changed without notice, reduced from 3 years/60,000km to 1 year/20,000km as of 1st Feb 2017, applies to old and new cars. Battery cost RM8XX from SC, cheapest Q-85 battery outside cost RM5XX.
• Loss of power can be instantly felt after first 1,000km service and engine restart after start-stop activation is more jerky, I think original engine oil from production factory is Mazda 0W-20, but in Malaysia, Mazda SC is giving Shell HX-7 semi-syn 5W-30, and about 7,000km after service, further loss of engine power can be felt until next service due at 10,000km intervals.

the semi syn oil is suspect, they should be using full synthetic. 0-20 is too thin for our weather, 0-30 is better

Nissan, Honda and Toyota are using 0W-20 nowadays on newer cars in Malaysia. Newer aluminum engines can accept them, coolant always stays around 90°C.

Lel, after years with the steering rack design flaw on previous gen, one would have though they've corrected it with skyactiv model. Get ready with rm800 - 1.2k after warranty gone, to be replaced with brand new same flawed steering rack.

But the flaw really depends on luck. Own 5 years old mazda 2 and fiesta, same steering rack, replaced rack on mazda once, never had issue with fiesta

Yup, that is why I advise potential buyers to stay away from Mazda 2/CX-3 until Mazda Japan/Bermaz have a permanent solution to this problem. Wait for us owners' feedback on this issue. As of now, there is still no permanent fix to this issue. I heard a lot of complains among Mazda 2 DE owners on this issue too. CX-3 Japan issued a recall last year on steering related problems too.

The issue with the Mazda 2 steering rack and suspension is very dependent on luck and driving conditions. I've had my M2 for around 4 months now haven't had any problems but its still to early to say (touch wood). I know a number of owners who have faced those issues and some who didn't even after 2 years. My friends in Australia who have the Mazda 2(which are also assembled in Thailand like ours) , don't face these problems, but do take into account Australian roads are WAY nicer than ours plus their speed limit is low.

That said, the M2 is a really nice little nimble car with good performance and handling that's super fun to drive, but being a driver's car you need to take good care of it and really understand the car, not just buy and forget. For me, if my suspension has problems i'll most likely just replace with sports suspension.

If you want a no frills no worries purchase, i suggest you look elsewhere. That said, the Mazda 2's reliability is still nowhere near as bad as Volkswagen or Peugeot

Not the rack, it's the EPS coupling.

The rack easily a few grand if replace out of warranty.

Try rotate your steering wheel left and right rapidly, you will get this part-to-part knocking feel, which is not supposed to be there (no such problem in City and Vios).

The suspension noise and steering turning noise will get to you the more you drive on the long run, any owner would want a piece of mind when owning a car. Who in the right mind would want to buy a problematic car, and throwing in lots of extra money just to get it running normally? Have to admit it is fun to drive light and nimble car (hence bumpy car), and have low FC. If Mazda/Bermaz managed to get the suspension noise and steering noise fixed permanently, no doubt it is the best B-segment choice here. For the time being, I have my reservations.

Errrrk my bad, forgot what was it called notworthy.gif

Anyhow the cheapest route for coupling is halfcut. Rm400, and well... its flawed so quite pointless changing to new one except for warranty, 1 week vs 3 months warranty.
