singapore's language class other than english is kinda bad. For example i have a friend who complete Chinese language o-level and he got B with it. The result is he can't even speak chinese properly. Then we ask how could he get B.... he said they can bring dictionary inside the exam hall and they can cheat. Also their chinese o-level is like our Form 1 standard.

I used to know a handful. That's quite a lot considering one usually expect to see them in large cities and not in a small town of Jerlun. Their parents grew up on Malay language but refused to converse in Malay at home with their children.

Maybe they wanted their kids to focus on only English due to fear of their kids not being able to use the language well. Maybe those kids somehow got this impression that Malay is some kind of pariah language. Who knows...

The fact that I was raised by a low-rank cop and a housewife who didnt finish school, yet still managed to get a decent grasp on this language used to gave me some sort of superiority complex against people I used to call 'Melayu Murtad'. However,I stopped giving a shit.
