Yo guys, do we have any dedicated thread meant for reviews of gym equipment? I'm talking about barbells, power cages, compression pants, self timers, headphones, tripods, belts, rollers, shoes, SMR stuff, chalk, straps, wrist wraps, etc. These things can get quite pricey and I know I'd like to have a review of somebody else's experience with them first before committing to a purchase. I haven't seen any. It would also be very useful IMO if for each review, the reviewer provides a link or an address of where to get that particular equipment. If we don't have a thread like that do you think it might be beneficial to set up one? I have a shitload of gear I can post reviews of to begin with. This way we can remove the need to create a thread asking where to buy things or if any particular equipment is good, etc. Most of these things can be googled, but there's nothing wrong in getting the opinion of the fitness community here in this forum, I've been seeing a few of these threads as of late. Heck we can make some sort of a request system whereby people can ask current owner/user of an equipment if its worth the money. If we add service providers like active release therapy or chiropractors, that would be quite useful too.

So what do you guys think?

My idea is having post with tags or something like that. For example, a user can begin his review like this:

[Review] Product name
Rating: maybe something like 4/5
Vendor/Place of purchase: link the online vendor or which shop you bought it from
Price: put price here
Comment: the bread and butter of the review. The reviewer needs to put in some thoughts as to why he rated the product the score he gave. And elaborate on some things other forummers might want to know

If we have those tags, people can use the search bar to search the review + the product name to easily find what they're looking for. We can have like a [Request] tag for a review request and [Inquiry] tag for people to ask what a specific equipment does or what equipment they need for a particular thing. Things like, why do I need a belt to lift heavy ass weight?

Something like that. I mean if there's interest it might be worth the time. But from the looks of the state of this thread, it might be a waste of time.

I like your idea and I think this kind of thread is very useful for beginner and lifter who looking for accessories etc. Eg; ab roller, foam roller, gloves, or strap. The quality, durability and price etc. For the tag, nothing much we can do accept for using the thread search function and start filtering the comment.

But like you said; the feedback, it might turn to inactive thread or only few active forumer.

Do you think it would be a good idea to post reviews over at the Reviews and Guides forum? I can always post a link to all reviews I post there to a single thread here as a compilation. I'll probably call that thread, Npad reviews some gym related shit he wasted money on, or something like that.

But they doesn't allow post reply in the R&G forum right? I think it's better if forumer can interact and share their opinion on why they disagree and why their gear is better than yours etc. However it will take a lot of your time and hopefully it will be useful to others too, which I personally think will be useful especially experience with different lifting belt, straps, shoes and so on.

I'm one of the silent reader which only post if I think need to share my thoughts or have something to ask. I'll be interested to read about lifting belt because I can feel that I'm gonna need one for my deadlift and squats in another 3-6 weeks. sweat.gif

I think they do allow interaction, what they don't allow is the thread becoming a chat box. If it's on topic then there shouldn't be any problems.
