QUOTE(Contestant @ Aug 14 2017, 04:54 PM) I think can even view it as 100% bond composition irrespective of what EPF is really holding for us as investments because the payout is almost the same regardless of whether we are in a bull market or even crashing! Yupe yupe. It's the payout which matters, not its actual investment composition. |

The “Seven-Year” Curse
If you work in financial markets, you could be forgiven for thinking there’s a curse on the third and fourth quarters of years ending in a seven. In 1987, equity markets peaked, up more than 30% year-to-date, in mid-August. Black Monday seemed to come from nowhere two months later. In 1997, Thailand, straining under a mountain of debt and unable to get enough hard currency to defend its currency peg against the U.S. dollar, had to let the baht float in July. Instead, it sank, bankrupting the country and sending a vicious contagion through much of Southeast Asia. Thailand and the Philippines requested IMF aid, Indonesia and South Korea were forced to follow suit in the fall, and by October the panic had spread to the developed markets. In 2007, on August 6, a combination of overcrowded positions, leverage and complacency led to a buildup of pressure in some quantitative investment portfolios. That pressure was unleashed in a “quant quake” that rattled equity markets for a week and scarred systematic and value investors for years. Three days later, in one of the signal moments of the credit crisis, interbank money markets suffered an unprecedented seizure after BNP Paribas had to suspend redemptions from three supposedly safe asset-backed securities funds. Within a month customers were queuing outside a major U.K. High Street bank trying to get their cash out. Volatility Can Strike without Warning http://www.fundsupermart.com.hk/hk/main/re...-the-Past-13853 In our view, the best lesson to take from 1987, 1997 and 2007 is that complacency and overconfidence in anyone’s ability to predict what will happen over the next week, month or year should be abandoned. Instead, here is a much more certain prediction based on our experience of those three momentous falls: the properly diversified portfolio is the one most likely to be intact in 2027, 2037 and 2047. |

Question - If I make a purchase today, say payment via FPX before 3 pm, will I get today's NAV? Reason for asking is on FSM fund info, the NAV is a few days lag. E.g. today it still shows NAV for 11 Aug.
If answer is yes, where can I find today's NAV? Thanks. |

I guess it had to depends on the fund it self...If answer is yes, where can I find today's NAV? Thanks. I think there is a different for a fund focused in M'sia alone and a fund focused on Global....for there is a forex mkt closing to consider too..... for m'sia focused fund's nav...try the FH website...FH like Kenanga, EI and CIMB are quiet prompt in posting NAVs update |

QUOTE(drew86 @ Aug 14 2017, 09:51 PM) simple answer is you can't, and never will. Today's NAV will only be known 1-3 business days later, depending on the fund/fund house. Read up on forward pricing. looks like Kenanga Growth fund's NAV can get today's pricing at its website wor....Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(MUM @ Aug 14 2017, 10:26 PM) QUOTE(Contestant @ Aug 15 2017, 06:24 AM) FSM Link It says: "Most of the unit trusts in Malaysia are priced based on "forward pricing". This means that if you transact today, you will get the fund’s value as of the closing price of the market today. However, you will know the price in two working days The price that you could see in the website is the so-called 'indicative price'. This is usually the price of the fund two working days ago. This indicative price is NOT the actual transaction price of the fund that you are buying or selling. Generally, the fund manager requires approximately two business days to consolidate and derive a unit price for the funds. These prices are further valued independently by the fund's trustees. Therefore, the dealing price will be made known to the public two business days after the transaction date. Once we obtained the price, an email notification will be sent to you." |

Best bet is to guess from the performance of indices before 3pm. Yet again anything can happen i.e. market rebound before closing. the NAV posted on post 7907 is the NAV of that day.it is not an indicated price...that is the price you buy or sell if that is the date indicated in FSM's buying or selling order as transaction date. We need Mr Kim to start firing rockets into the waters to spook the market/Trump to be in serious trouble. Market up, hold cash because fear to chase market... In the end, portfolio performance equal or worse than FD. Xuzen p/s That is why DCA is to take away that emotion and irrational thinking from long term investment. |
