EPF is not really defined as saving.
It's retirement purpose.

In other word, it is savings, for retirement brows.gif

Put in epf consider saving?

If not knowledgeable in investments like stock and etc,
There’s really no other options
*
TBH, EPF is one of the best savings/investment available, it provide 6% return annually.
Imagine last year, if someone were to buy some UTs, and it's turns out all negative, and now, if you've just leave EPF money in EPF, you earn a 6%.

UTs/Stocks can be really sophisticated to talk about, but nothing beats rates of return.

Put it as long term saving with restriction in withdrawal.
It's not as flexible and liquid as normal saving for rainy days.

ah, right, emergency fund should always be Savings account with ATM access.

Hi FSM guru,

a quick question on MutualFund Income Tax.
Do we need to pay tax for the profit we got from MutualFunds?
how does it work? any rule and regulation like is there are limit, or percentage or how it works?

Thanks in advance.

Capital gain is not subjected to tax.
Dividend/Distribution under single tiered tax system has been taxed before gets into unitholders/shareholders.

ah, okay, thanks!

As per FSM, it's the banker fault who accidentally miss out my payment and I seriously doubt it. For whatever reason, it's their responsibility to make sure all payments go through on the settlement date.

I got back the funds yesterday after 6pm.

wow, guess mistakes happens.
As long as you got the money in the end, thats okay biggrin.gif

No its not ok.

If the money it's not in on that day I check with them, I would have lodge the complaint to SC for their mistakes.

There are dealing with people hard earn money and what if it takes longer than expected to recover back the funds.

In hindsight is easy for you to say such thing.
*
Woah, chill man, I don't work for FSM, and I am not saying it's okay for them to delay your hard earn money.
But I am happy for you to finally get it, thats all.

Peace out

some would do the decision based on "what is the initial goal of buying that fund?"

I guess it depends on individual. Some people just want to hit profit target n leave. Some might hold till they need only sell.
*
Hmm... the reason I invest just is to get rich, there are no target but when there's profit and I don't sell it, I might lose the profit?

Which leads to another question, all Funds will have that annual redistribute fund's unit back into the funds so that you hold more units right?
But last year it was like negative -10% or something, what happen when they redistribute the funds unit?
I will get 0 funds?

If your reason to invest in ut is to get rich.....then just sell when yr fund had made you rich.....
(Target without a number, with just a non quantified "rich" word....then any amount of profits that falls into that "rich".... would be ok..)
Sell it before trump tweets...to prevent being "poor" again

on this...."But last year it was like negative -10% or something, what happen when they redistribute the funds unit?
I will get 0 funds?"

depends.....on other things too..... see image
*
Haha, what you said is quite true, I need to set a target.

ah, okay, thanks for explaining that image too, I think I kinda grasp the idea now.

Trump's tweet is not a bad thing. Logically, markets cannot keep on rising to infinity, a meltdown or crash will happen at some point. On the other hand if it stays stagnant, there is no money to be made. Money is made when there is volatility.

Trump's tweet keeps the market in check, creates volatility where everytime a dip happens, thats where you DCA and when market recovers from panic, profit is made. Trump is so under appreciated tongue.gif

how many % allocated was before this sell?
*
By locking profit, you mean you sold the whole fund? or switching the whole fund to a different fund?

Is there a way to sell only for the profit % we earned?
or the only way to lock profit is to selling the whole fund or switching the whole fund?

Depends on whether
you still want that fund to be in your port....
if you don't want that fund anymore...sell all
if you still want it, but want to keep to the required allocation...sell off the extra after allocated the required %

Is there a way to sell only for the profit % we earned?
you can sell some quantity of your available units

ah, cool, thanks for the info.

Let say my previous % was on 10%. Now raise to 16%. I sell 6% so I got this gain.
If wanted to take all 16% also same. Just that if you still want the exposures of the region, you can keep at as the initial % of yours.
This is same as robo. You maintain the same % of the desired objective very 1st when you start investing.
Sell the performer buy the underperforming.
GEM, nikko, and MY.

aaxj and cn already achieve desired % last February

Global markets have become so synchronised that money managers risk losing on every front, according to Hiromichi Mizuno, chief investment officer of the world’s largest pension fund.
Japan’s $1.5 trillion Government Pension Investment Fund lost money in equities, fixed-income and currency positions in the last three months of 2018, Mizuno pointed out on Tuesday in Sacramento, California.

"Conventional wisdom of portfolio diversification is when we lose money in equity we make a profit in fixed income, ” Mizuno told the board of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, the largest U.S. pension.

"But we lost in every single asset classes and lost in the currency translation as well. It never happened in the past.”
