Stagnant and negative. 5 years of 0 growth. Lets see whether the phrase  time in market is better than timing the market is actually true for malaysia market

MY problem = small pond with BIG FISHES (EPF, Kazanah, etc.)
how lar - mostly "artificial" liao

yeah - i'm holding less than 20% of my equities in MY to the above +Venezuela / Argentina thinggy - ie working in MY, home in MY, and IF bulk of investment assets in MY AND MY stagnant / plunge long term - game over man, game over. Having said that, i'm also not like 80% in US markets heheh - all spread to at least 3 countries. I no trust US 100% too - another Trump may happen laugh.gif

Report for Oct 2020 just came in and tallied.

Port Algozen™ ver four made some profit in Oct 2020; 0.6% M-o-M to be exact ( but still four figure value ).

Gold was lacklustre & port gain comes from US + China ( esp china exposure )

Still got faith in gold?

Not selling as of now.

But what I want to highlight is the effect of low correlation coefficient at work. You see, US + China went up, gold came down.

If you want all to go up all at once and together, then you are expecting a highly correlated asset class.

Some may argue, why choose the asset class even though is low correlated but you know it will go down?

It is like asking why buy Insurance and pay the premium ( cost )?

The answer is; it is meant as an cushion against " what-ifs"

And from my port result, even though gold went down, overall port went up.

As my lecturer in finance once told me, low correlation COM-LAN-FIRM reduces the volatility aka standard deviation, but not the overall gain. And of course I had to sit in the class for half an hour seeing him deduce his theory on the whiteboard.

Previously Algozen™ ver four exclude wholesale fund in its selection. It was only in Sep 2020 I include wholesale fund in my portolio construction based on a suggestion of a fellow forumer here ( very very sorry but I cannot remember who it was ). And United Golden Opportunity Fund came into the picture. After passing some initial criteria it was shortlisted from the master list. Next, I plotted its data into Algozen™ ver four and Voila! It appears as one of the selected golden winner ( pun intended )

COM-LAN-FIRM or CON-LAN-FIRM?

comparing between market index trackers or UT funds?

performance of 100 UT funds (in FSM) that focused in Malaysia can range between -9% to +13% annualised returns during the last 5 yrs period (of "Stagnant and negative. 5 years of 0 growth." mkts growth)
at about 15 out of 100 funds in RED, thus TIME in the market can be true if you got the right fund(s).
I would say...higher chances of getting the right funds too

actually it is the limited funds offered in FSM Malaysia though some funds have overseas exposure but they they are not managed by reputable fund managers. You should compare the funds in FSM Singapore then you will notice that FSM Malaysia funds are not that great.

I've been looking for more info regarding the Managed Portfolios and I just went in first and split my investment into two: managed portfolio and my own. I'm not sure if it's a stroke of luck but my own portfolio did better and I'm quite sure that I didn't do extreme readings and analysis that the managed portfolio managers might have done.

Any of you guys on the managed portfolio as well? I'm on the aggressive portfolio.

well i would say i aint impressed by their managed portfolio either whistling.gif

looking at their conservative managed portfolio
i recommended amanahraya syariah trust to my friends, before it is tagged as a recommended fund by FSM

YTD their balanced not even beat a standalone bond fund return
i think it is because it is too diversified perhaps
