There seems to be a myriad of investments to choose from, and I am just bewildered at the options available!
Considering that I am a total no0b, which instruments should I go for? UT/bonds/PRS??
In case this helps:
1) Limited disposable income
2) Medium-to-long term investment
3) No need for liquidity - the investment money is not meant to be dipped
4) Minimum entry investment - and minimum/ no fees for subsequent top-ups
5) No very frequent monitoring of investment performance

icon_question.gif please!

PRS is a good choice, since it has RM3k Tax deduction for the next few years, but I wouldn't top-up more than RM3k annually though.
and for leftover disposable income, I would pump it into UT.

just a note also....
"When judging the overall performance of a mutual fund, always look at the fund’s total return instead of just the changes in its NAV.
Distributions made by the fund may reduce the fund’s NAV but they still belong as part of the shareholder’s overall return.
Viewing returns in this manner gives a more accurate depiction of a fund’s success"

Put in RM5k into CIMB-PRINCIPAL GREATER CHINA EQUITY FUND some 4-5 months ago. Now it's worth RM4,542.29 (-9.15%)

Should I just pull out? Or top up $?

Roller Coaster ride goes up and down, only those who jump out in the middle of the ride will get hurt.
As long as the Fund have a strong background, hold on, and ride it til the roller coaster reach it's destination.

Welcome to my life. Shocking isn't it.
Rental RM700
Water RM10
Electric RM0
Petrol RM30
Phone RM30
Internet RM45
Food + groceries = ~RM300 (I packed my own food to work)
Insurance nil. Never trusted insurance, I go govt Hosp.

When you train your mind not to give in to temptation, all other things become unnecessary. Focus on your goal. My goal is simple. Stop working as soon as possible.

The above are needed expenses.
From there, the remaining
1) keep saving until get RM3k for PRS
2) keep until get RM2k, dump RM2k/year into EPF (cashback from cc by helping people buy things). About RM1000.  cashback/year. Contribute extra RM1k out of own pocket.
3) keep balance in MMF until big amount,  convert over to SGD. That's why I said I am use to seating on cash.

Be super frugal and you have plenty of cash left over. Spend now on all sort of nonsense thing,  you have no cash left for anything.

Again if you read my first post, it was nothing to do with him sharing his knowledge. I am more than happy to learn from EVERYONE.
I just said it's a little insensitive for him to come here and celebrate each time market drops. Others are losing money and it's being inconsiderate. Some may argue it's paper loss but such crash can take time to recover. A lot of people have losses this year and eventhough it maybr paper loss, it still doesn't feel good.
*
I been reading the conversation between ssajnani and remjade.
ssajnani emphasizing on being sensitive in the forum, while remjade shared what he thinks is right for him.

I know ssajnani is just trying to be nice, but in my opinion, he is not being rude.
He express his gratitude with the market is down, and he is happy.

Whoever bought with higher value, why would he get offended by someone else being happy on bad market?
I know I bought when the fund price is high, which causes my portfolio is all red now, but I never once get offended reading his comment.

The question is however, do he really need to be sensitive in this Financial Forum?
It's a friggin FSM Forum, you invest, you lose some, you gain some, you don't need to be sensitive here, you want sensitive, you should go to cupid section. shocking.gif

Remember unit trust still holds a basket of stocks. In a correction as shown recently,  even unit trust also not spared.

To time the market or not in Unit Trust Investing.

This is the question that is commonly asked by noobs and veterans alike.

My stand is don't time, do DCA.

What I said above does not mean to say that timing market is bad, it is just in UTF investing, timing it is bad.

Below are my explanations:

DCA all da way for me.
And for those fund with FSM discount, I tends to put slightly a bit more.
Not sure that still consider the 'DCA' method though XD
