QUOTE(xuzen @ Feb 27 2017, 12:12 PM) OIC! OIC! Sahabat Xuzen, I won't change my mind in the future even if the fund is capital guaranteed (sounds like an endowment policy but that's a story for another day). I have always wondered why there are people in the FSM thread who can afford or qualify to buy wholesale unit trust fund (qualify as accredited / sophisticated status) and yet still insist to play around at the kiddie pool. Now, at least I can understand in a small way reason for this. But sahabat penjaga van, what if it is a closed ended fund that offers capital guaranteed return or fixed return fund like bonds closed ended fund leh? Would you change your mind? Xuzen I would rather have the chance to do DCA or VA or leap to another better horse within 5 years rather than being locked in. QUOTE(puchongite @ Feb 27 2017, 12:17 PM) The fund in question is RHB Pre-IPO & Special Situation Fund 3. It was launched in November 2015. Currently at -2.98%. I won't say that the fund has tumbled. I am looking at the opportunity cost. I could have invested in other unit trusts like KGF as suggested by Xuzen. Even the fixed deposit rate would have beaten it hands down. The previous RHB Pre-IPO was giving about 20% return per annum (Note to self : Past performance is not indicative of future performance). But RHB Pre-IPO still have 3 years plus to go. Hopefully it will pick up (Note to self : This time it will be different? Or it would not be different? The hope of a delusional investor?) QUOTE(xuzen @ Feb 26 2017, 12:33 PM) If you do recall, these products where is deemed wholsesale fund or fund open only to "sophisticated / accreditated" investors comes with certain T&C. Among them, the targeted participant must have MYR 3M in networth and / or household combined earning of MYR400K p.a.. Thanks boss. Obviously on this thread what you say bear a lot more weight than what I say. Been trying to say this so many times and yet get replies like "but the initial investment only RM10k", or "FSM doesn't check or ask for income or networth proof"For these qualified participants, it is assume that they have the financial capacity to withstand these flucuation and liquidity risk. Whenn one sees these products from a retail perspective; that is why you start to think like this and like that such as; about DCA lar, about risk lar etc. Interested participants should comprehend that these wholesale products are not targeting retail participants. As such, come friend ... lai lai... let's play together-gether at the kiddie pool. Kiddie pool is nice, is safe and yet one can still enjoy the nice cool water. Xuzen How do you protect retail investors from banging wall on their own? |

QUOTE(Ramjade @ Feb 27 2017, 03:51 PM) Obviously there are still many shades in the sea of wholesale funds. One might be comfortable with initial investment of 10k, but he might not be comfortable with initial investment of 100k. And one might be comfortable with minimum holding period of 6 months, but he might not be comfortable with a 5 year lock-in. For that matter, within the retail funds, already there is a big sea of different funds. One size simply does not fit all. |

Do not be disheartened. I, too, have attended the prelaunch seminar for the fund stated by you, organized by RHB. Let me recap some of the salient / selling points to you. Do take note that these private equity funds behave very differently from your regular run of the mill index hugging collective investment scheme aka unit trust or mutual fund. How is it different? If you do recall from their presentation before, the benefit of these fund is that they are very poorly correlated with other index and their targeted return is around 15% annualized return. These type of funds need some incubation period and the main return will come towards the end, when their assets comes into maturity, that is, the seed company that the fund manager selected goes for IPO. That is when you see your gain coming in. In the mean time, stay put, continue to grumble and scold the fund manager, if that helps you release steam.... Beginning is bitter; end is sweet. Xuzen p/s a 15% annualized return will turn the MYR 100K into MYR 201,136.00 in five years time. This post has been edited by xuzen: Feb 27 2017, 04:27 PM |
